This page is an official policy on the Avlis Wiki.

PC and Guild information on the wiki can be used as In Character information. This means that any player playing a character in Blackdagger: The World of Avlis, can decide that his character knows the information written in any PCs or Guild page. PCs and Guild pages can be called 'IC Wiki Pages'.

The ONLY place where you can freely post your character's inner thoughts, fears, and secret actions OOCly with no ramifications is on the World Forge Magazine forums. This is because they are mostly private and can only be seen by members of the site.

IC wiki pages share the policy of the IG journals on the Avlis forums. An adaption of that policy is writtem below to make it apply more to the wiki.

Rule Zero

That's right. Rule zero. The rule beyond all other IC wiki page rules. Everything written on an IC wiki page is totally In Character and available for public consumption. Do not write information that you want to keep secret on an IC wiki page. What is written there can be used In Game by any and all characters.

Do not blast other players/characters

The purpose of the IC wiki pages is NOT to blast other characters or players (the latter being far worse) in a venue where the recipient of your angst has no opportunity to reply or defend his/herself. Bad form. Use common sense and be respectful of one another. You can express anger and rage without stooping to insults and mud flinging. Leave that to Washington.

BAD: {{PC name 2}} is such an ass, because he lies to everyone and steals the party loot.
STILL BAD: {{PC name}} has a dislike of {{PC name 2}} because he is an ass, lies to everyone, and steals the party loot.
STILL BAD: {{PC name}} has a dislike of {{PC name 2}} because {{PC name}} believes he is an ass, lies to everyone, and steals the party loot.
GOOD: {{PC name}} has a dislike of {{PC name 2}}.
BAD: {{Guild X}} fell apart after {{PC name 2}} drylooted {{PC name 3}}.
STILL BAD: {{PC name}} thinks that {{PC name 2}} drylooting {{PC name 3}} caused {{Guild X}} to fall apart.
GOOD: {{Guild X}} became less powerful because of In Game developments.
In general, follow these two rules when writing about other PCs or guilds:
  1. If you mention other guilds or PCs, don't write about them on your PCs page, but link to the page of that PC or guild. Intra-wiki linking is good. There is no reason why history of a certain guild should be on your PC page rather than the guild page.
  2. Be vague or non-informative when you feel something is a controversial topic, and involves other PCs or Guilds. See 'GOOD' Example #2 above. Writing '.. because of IG developments ..' or '.. because of several things happening ..' is a good solution to editing disputes as well.

IC boards vs. Wiki

Know when to post in the tavern and when to post on the wiki. Some things definately belong in the taverns and not on the wiki. The wiki is not a way to send messages to other characters, nor a way to recruit, spend propaganda, or attempt to deceive PCs or NPCs.

Factual

Unlike character journals, the wiki should contain facts only. If something is not a fact, but the opinion or perception of your character, state it as such, by using "X thinks.. " or "In X's eyes.. ". Even when using this kind of line, be aware that writing untruths is not the purpose of the IC wiki pages. It is advised that you bundle all things which are written from your character's point of view together in a single section which is clearly marked as being non-factual. (Such as a '{{PCname}}'s thoughts' section)

Enforcement of this policy

The Team will not activily enforce this policy, as in, we won't read all wiki pages and check if they follow these rules. If you see a page which doesn't follow this policy, edit it yourself, and state your reasons on the talk page.

PCs: pages are not owned by the player of the PC. Guild: pages are not owned by the members of the guild. Every non-protected wiki page can be edited by every user.

If the original author disagrees with your action, the edit becomes a editing dispute. See the editing disputes page for information on editing disputes.
