Timeline

Below is the history of what is now called Cytheria.

Pre-Independance

4 - Seeing the success of the Southeastern provinces, the northern provinces of Amatis, Deneve, Conslet, Aledia and Mysilia secede from the Republic forming the Hyribian League. Joral Kuras is left with a handful of loyal forces around Centerpoint.

13 - The Terriory of Cytheria (neutral up to this point) and Liandyra join Joral Kuras after he defeats an army of 53,000 with just 42,000 forces at the Battle of Amelede Bay.

34 - First minor skirmishes occur at the Tyedu border. Reasons for the barbarian incursions are left unknown.

Tyeduan Wars

160 - First Tyeduan War erupts along Cytherian border, when Kurathene prospectors attempt to annex tribal lands.

180 - The First Tyeduan War comes to a close. The Imperial Army is formally established.

820 - 827 - Second Tyeduan War, Kuras personally leads an army that drives the barbarian tribes from the western peninsula.

1330 - The Third Tyedu War: While Kuras and the main forces of the Imperial Army is busy fighting a war to the south, the barbarian hordes of Tyedu invade Cytheria and the Frontier, sparking the Third Tyedu War. Barbarian forces quickly drive the ill-prepared Imperial army out of the frozen tundra.

Defenses are Built

1336 - Lead by Legate Martial Sir Michael Lomar, the Kurathene Imperial Army manages to retake the former prefecture of Cytheria. Replacing the exiled Isilwynde family, Kuras promotes Lomar to the position and title of Prefect. Cytherian province of Mysilia is renamed Lomar. Kuras reinforces Cytheria by withdrawing from Dubunat.

1339 - Kuras stages a massive counter-invasion into Liandyra, driving out the remaining Tyeduan forces

1340 - The building of Fort Bross is completed.

1345 - Imperial Order establishes the stronghold of Halstead in the northeastern corner of Liandyra.

1540 - Construction of Percivian-s Wall begins in northern Liandyralow lands meant to keep out any vestiges of barbarian activity.

1945 - Arvanos, Lomar and Trenium sign into law the Third Emancipation Act. The Third Emancipation Act was passed to make Crullath's slave trade illegal and the traders open to search and seizure. Arvanos begins enforcement along south-western Ocean and Lomar the lesser traveled northern parts Ocean. Lomar also supplied in trade cheap fir timber to the Imperial Navy to help build cheaper ships to close the slave trade down.

Time of the Pirates

1965 to 1989- The Pirate Negropan terrorizes the shipping and coastline of the Cytherian Frontier. His band of pirates are directly credit for over 100 ships raided and/or destroyed.

1971 - Due to increased pressure from shipping interests, The Cytherian Marines are formally organized into a military force. Their assignment originally is to protect ship trade and to hunt down and destroy all pirate groups off the coast of The Frontier.

1973 - The Battle of Bane Iceburg occures, the first land battle for the Marines. A band of the pirate Nutzbuster had made a raiding camp on the Bane Iceburg, which was assaulted by the Marines 1st Division. The battle is a decisive victory for the Marines and builds their reputation as an elite fighting unit.

1978 - In resonse to the increased assualts on his pirates by the Marines, Negropan raids the town of Silver Water, raising it to the ground before being repulsed by the counter attacking 1st and 5th Marine Divisions, lead by General Nikolas. General Nikolas is mortally wounded in the counter attack. Negropan lives and regroups, continuing to raid passing ships.

1981 - As pointed out by the Silver Water Raid, the Marines needed more protection for their base of operations. Fort Nikolas, named in honor of the fallen Marine General, is built along the southwest coastline.

1989 - The infamous pirate Negropan is lead into a trap designed by the Marines Recon Unit and is killed. Though piracy never fully stops, the ship trade builds up to record levels.

Growing Pains

2095 - Silver viens are found in the stream outside the rebuilt city of Silver Water. The prospectors, noting that the stream reflected like a mirror, surmised that their must be much silver under the stream.

2096 - Word began to spread about the riches under the Silver Water stream, leading to the Great Silver Rush of 2096.

2100 - Many people that came to Silver Water, realizing that the stories of riches to be had were greatly exagerated, burn again many parts of the restored city. The Silver Water Fire grows out of control and is left to burn out on it's own.

Unrest and Revolution

2164 - Tyedu and Melekite invasion through Halstead starts. The Tyedu armies tries to penetrate into Cytheria to open a second front for the Imperial and Feif Armies to react to, but are repulsed by the solid defending of the Cytherian National Guard and some brilliant defenses put in place by Field Marshall Marcus Sigers. Shortly after the first strikes, the 1st Marine Division (The Famed Death Sharks), led by then Captain Kalgar, sailed and landed behind the barbarian lines, rolling the Tyeduians back behind the Halstead border. The euphoria of the victory is short lived though, as King Calaor orders all forces not to advance any further.

2165 - King Calaor and Halstead sings a treaty that states Leonius will support the war effort and aid any refugees from Halstead, with the stipulation that such aid to be paid for by Halstead with ore from the mines still under their control. King Calaor refuses to be drawn into the conflict. Refugess from Halstead now flood across the western borders.

2166 - Fighting continues along the northern borders with great loss to the armies on both sides. Field Marshall Sigers and the military leaders bristles at the King's orders not to take the iniative and strike back at Tyedu. Demonstrations start appearing in the northern villages against King Calaor inaction.

2167 - A break away detachment of Marines, led by the war hero (now)Colonel Kalgar, set sail past the borderlands and into eastern Tyedu, razing any and all villages in southern Tyedu in an attempt to cut off supplies for the barbarians fighting along the borderlands. King Calaor bristles at this information and orders the detachment back to Fort Nikolas. Never one to follow orders, Kalgar's only response is to name himself Commandante of the Northern Expeditionary Force of the Cytherian Frontier.

2168 - Troops from the 15th National Guard Batallion (The Frozen Spears) are sent from the south to aid in defending the northern Tyedu borderlands. The Tyedu leadership, seeing more defenders coming and watching their supplies lines being destroyed by the rogue Northern Expeditionary Force, reinforces their troops and orders immediate engagements against the fresh troops. This results in some of the bloodiest battles seen on Leonius soil.

2168 - Representing villages in the South of Leonius, Lucius D'Cythras attends a trade discussion in Julaspium. While there, he holds several meetings from a firm from the South, Lead Negotiator Shaniqua Stont.

2169 - In Halstead, the last of the militia held northern villages falls.

2169 - The renewed offensive attempts by Tyedu are finally and forcefully repulsed. The National Guard and Leigon make an unauthorized push into Tyedu but encounter stiff resistance and fall back to the border lands. The forces of Tyedu draw back into southern Tyedu to lick their wounds, but maintain regular skirmishes and assualts on the borderlands.

2169 - The self-proclaimed Northern Expeditionary Forcee returns from Tyedu with minimal losses, manageing to acheive their objective of distrubting and form of supply line for the barbarians. Even though they paid a critical role in the Nation Guard repulsing the Tyedu forces, King Calaor has Kalgar and his troops banished to an isolated Ice mining colony. Hearing of this percieved injustice, Lucius D'Cythra organizes a succesful rescue party, led by childhood friend Mitrik Sigers (son of the current Field Marshall Marcus Sigers).

2170 - Anger over the handling of the war and other social changes that King Calaor initiated boil over amongst the populance, leading to the Blue Revolution (named for the color of the banner they used) and the overthrow of King Calaor. The leader of the revolution, the charismatic nationalist Lucius D'Cythra becomes leader of the renamed Nation of Cytheria. He immediately names an Inner Council to govern the new nation.

2170 - A Military Pact is signed between Cytheria and Halstead's Government-in-Exile. Cytheria declares war upon all forces inhabiting "The Eastern Region of the Cytherian Frontier".

History of the Political Reigns of the Cytherian Lands

Timeline of the Politics of Cytheria Lands

175 P.O.D. - The nation is split into nine administrative districts. As one of the nine administrative districts, this is the first official use of the name Cytherian Frontier. Part of The Frontier is The Province of Mysilia occupies roughly the borders of current day Cytheria

0004 - 1335: The Province of Mysilia joins the northern provinces of Amatis, Deneve, Conslet and Aledia in seceding from the Republic, forming the Hyribian League.

1297 - 1335: Reign of the Isilwynde family over the Province of Mysilia.

1336 - 2149: Reign of the Lomar family over the Kingdom of Lomar

2150 - 2170: Reign of Leonius family over the Kingdom of Leonius

2171 - Now : Reign of Lord Lucius and the Inner Council over the Nation of Cytheria

The Kingdom of Lomar

The Lomarian family did not follow Toran, but rather uniquely this far north, followed O’Ma. This change dates back to Emperor Kurath. At that time, the Lomar family had sworn allegiance to Kurath, and provided him with ships for his Navy. A Lomar was there as well, a member of the Emperor’s Court, when O’Ma sent His avatar to reclaim the GodSlayer. Even though O’Ma lost, the then Lord Lomar, was so impressed with O’Ma’s bravery, that he decided to follow O’Ma’s teachings rather then Toran’s. Toran is still greatly respected and has a temple in the capital city. But has taken the second place both officially and among the bulk of the population.

After the fall of the Empire, Lomar survived, and kept its borders well protected. The rulers of Lomar, who adopted the title King, and called their lands the Kingdom of Lomar, felt it was better to protect what they had, rather than extend and take more land.

The last ruler of Lomar, King Calor had two sons. One Delen, the oldest, was sent off to the south so he could explore the world and find his own place in it as was customary in the Lomar family. The younger Bojar stayed closer to home learning to take over if needed, and how to lead the armies of Lomar as a general, though he never truly got the chance.

Leonius

Times change though, and a new faction came to power within the Frontier. Unsatisfied with the stagnation of his position, Cassius Leonius urged the Lomar family to take on a more aggressive stance with their neighbors, hoping that the resulting spoils of war would improve his wealth and prestige.

King Calor, however, stood firm in his position, refusing to move on Halstead or Jalaspium. Cassius therefor sent his only son, Arcturius, to the south for two purposes. The first, plainly enough, was so that his son could learn of warfare from ones who practiced it regularly, and from the esteemed Sword of Toran located in Mikona. Second, and more obscure of a reason, he began plotting to remove the Lomars from power, and wanted his heir far enough away to escape any repercussions that might have occurred.

Leonius patiently bided his time, waiting for the perfect opportunity. It came during the recent Fairy War in Elysia, when Delen, Calor’s eldest, died in the conflict. With the one loose end tied up, Cassius moved swiftly, quickly arranging for Calor to die of “natural? causes, and stirring up trouble with the border barbarians. On an excursion to the border to placate the barbarians, the only remaining male of the proud house, Bojar Lomar, met with an untimely demise.

Ever a skilled orator, the leader of the Leonius family spoke passionately about the “invading horde? of barbarians, stirring fears of another Tyedu War, urged the people of Lomar to accept his rule in that time of trouble to repel the threatening conquerors. Angered at the assault on their proud leaders, and fearful of the threat to their complacent security, the people of Lomar were quick to rally behind the cunning Cassius, who easily assumed the throne of Lomar, and soundly turned back the barbarians.

Mindful of the kingdom’s attitude, Cassius struck another blow while the iron was hot. Himself convinced that the worship of O’Ma was the reason Lomar became so lax, he went so far as to ban the worship of the god of forests, re-instating Toran and his son Senath as the primary gods of worship. Uncertain of the change, but high off the victory over the barbarians, and kept appropriately fed and entertained, the masses fell in line.

Envisioning a return to the glorious days of Joral Kuras, Cassius began emplacing more sweeping changes. He revamped the army, returning a rank structure not seen since the days of the Empire, and began a program of propaganda with the sole purpose of instilling pride in militaristic conquest. He instituted a heavy tax to pay for his new army, a move not necessarily approved by the people of Lomar, but appeased the masses by building a grand arena where brave warriors could fight for the entertainment of nobles and commoners alike.

The new king was not yet done though. In order to help instill a sense of patriotism in his army, the new King created a new class, a middle class called Citizen. The class, elevating one from Commoner status, was made attainable only by service in the Royal Army. Lastly, sensing a need to distance himself from the former regime, he moved to change the Kingdom’s name from Lomar to Leonius

After about twenty years of peaceful rule, war again ravaged The Frontier. Clans of Tyedu warriors, aided by bands of Melakites, again invade the regions of Kurathane, pushing through Halstead and deep into the lands of the old Empire.

While Leonius and the governement of King Calaor offers shelter and lip service to Halstead, nothing beyond defending the current border is done. This upsets the prideful Frontierman, eager to push the barbarians back to the far north. The military also feels this puts their lands in jepardy, now having to guard not only the northern approaches, but an eastern front against the barbarians as well.

Grumblings continue to grow through-out the Kingdom.

Cytheria Rises Again

The inaction of the King in response to the take over of Halstead by Tyedu and bands of Malekites and the sweeping changes inacted by Calaor did not sit well with the majority of the people. After a few long winters, the fact that Calaor would only defend but not actively engaging the invaders, the social changes and the religious persecutions wore thin on the tough minded people of The Frontier. All that was needed to set off a firestorm of discontent was a leader. Enter the strong Nationalist and self-proclaimed descendent of the original D’Cythra family, Lucius.

No one knows quiet where Lucius came from, though it is clear that he started his campaign by recruiting followers to his cause in the old capital Kuras. Within a very short period of time, the young upstart was giving speeches and winning the people over with his visions of returning to the glories of the past. The following of Lucius grew faster then a northern winter storm.

In the so-called “Summer of Discontent? things came to an ultimate boiling point. Lucius’ “Blue Revolution?, named for the color of the banner used to rally people to the gatherings, grew across the land and into the capital city of Lomar. Soon, there was daily gatherings in the amphitheater. As the crowds were never properly addressed by Leonius, the size and demands of the crowds also grew. Sympathizing with the demonstrators, the National Guard refused to break up the daily mobs, sealing the fate of the Leonius Family. In the middle of the night, the royal ship left the harbor and the Leonius Family was never seen in The Frontier again.

Fully believing himself to be the heir of the D’Cythra family, Lucius renamed the area to its historical name of Cytheria and regionally the Cytherian Frontier (known and refered to commonly as The Frontier). The capital city was also renamed Cythras, in honor of the D’Cythra ancestors.

Nobody seems to be able to verify young Lucians hierarchal claim as the original Cytheria famiy has long bee out of leadership to this area. In fact, some have mused that there is not mention of a Family or Clan with the name Cytheria or D’Cythra, but with his populous movement, no one is saying those rumors too often or loud.
