Introduction

Ponies are miniature horses. It is commonly thought that ponies were bred from domesticated horses, but this is not true. Wild ponies originated in the harsh, arid regions of Toran Shaarda, and this is the only nation where herds of wild ponies can still be found. The dracon of Toran Shaarda quickly domesticated them as part of their desire for order, but found no real use for them. The dracon themselves are stronger than ponies, so they make poor work animals, and the dracon do not eat them, so they made little sense to keep as food livestock. So many ponies were traded by the dracon to the halflings of neighboring Ferrell, where they are used for riding, pulling plows and carts, etc.

Feeding Habits

Ponies, like horses, are herbivores, and eat grasses and grains.

Disposition and Social Habits

Like horses, wild ponies live together in herds. Domesticated ponies that live in groups will also fall into a herd structure.

Habitat

In the wild ponies are found only in Toran Shaarda. Domesticated ponies are most common in Ferrell.

• Like dire boars, ponies are hooved animals and are fairly strong for their size.

Other notes

Like horses, wild ponies are prey animals to large carnivores such as lions and other big cats. Domestic ponies are rarely if ever eaten.
