Tales of First Adventures: Lady Nawen Beign

Before she was the Lady of Drakehall, Protector of the Gardens, Singer of Sin, Poet of Lust, Sage of Unspeakable Knowledge, or even the so-called Bitch Queen of the Elf Gate; she was just Nawen, a wayward spirit that had come to Elysia for a new start after learning the trade of courtesan and plying it in Mikona. Because everyone starts somewhere and it is the first steps that tell of the person beyond the rumors and hearsay. We present in her own words and by her own hand; the First Adventure of Nawen.

There I was in Elysia. Wearing loaned out leathers that were many sizes beyond my build and holding a borrowed sword in hand that was so long I couldn’t balance it well. Trying to swing it slowly without hitting another Warrior Maiden… again! We were in the graveyards near the Second Solace, waiting to enter the crypts on what they called ‘Training Day’. They all knew what they were doing and I was wide-eyed as I could get; not to mention nervous beyond words. All I knew was what I was told. ‘Nawen stay in the rear and keep your sword ready’ was what Archmistress Eloryn Yeritashemar told me before they opened the door and the rotten air rushed out as the crypt groaned.

I watched them enter and descend as I would too. As I made it down the stairs they were already in action. It was an artful scene of violence. Each knew what the other was doing and when was victorious they watch the other sisters to gauge their talent with the blade. They only aid their other sisters if needed. This was about finishing about each started. I truly hoped I wouldn’t start anything. This wasn’t my world. I just joined the Warrior Maidens and nearest to a sword I had held was a dagger; mostly for clients that wouldn’t accept no as an answer or didn’t know courtesans are not whores.

Sister Earandel was leading the training and asked me what I saw. I told her I saw each working as part of something larger and supporting each other but also allowing the others to test themselves. As a few of the sisters present seemed skilled enough with blades not to need any aid of others; yet they gave advice to the younger sisters in what to do as they fought. She nodded and told me soon I would be tested in such ways as we walked across a walkway where the scene repeated itself.

I was waved over and followed and told to stay out of the way and not touch anything by a stern sister named Breene. I did as I was told and got myself across the walkway nor tripped which was what Breene had placed her coin on me doing. I was told to stand aside as they worked on the grate so we could continue our training in the older portions of the crypts. This I did and didn’t touch anything. As they worked and others talked is when the groaning was heard.

At that moment, the lid of a Sarcophagus was pushed aside by whatever was inside and then I saw it. A mummy within inches of me but was probably several feet away in reality but that didn’t matter. I was struck frozen with fear by the revolting sight as it groaned and went after the Maidens. Guess it knew I was nothing to worry about as I stood there shaking and fearful. The sisters beat it down and tossed it off the side into the chambers unknown. Even that wasn’t reassuring enough to calm my nerves. So Archmistress Eloryn embraced me tightly in a hug telling me everything was fine, everyone fine, and it’s all over. Then other sisters joined in the hug and reassuring me it was over and apologies for not protecting me from such overcoming emotions.

That is when it happened. Still scared to death and not understanding what they were saying or why they were so calm about it. My bladder relax and soon my thighs were wet, then my knees and into my boots. As the other sisters realized I was so scared that I had peed myself they quickly let go of me but not my Archmistress Eloryn. She hugged me till I was no longer scared and my bladder was empty. She gave each sister a look of what she would do to them if they said a single ill word about my ‘fear’. Not a single one them would say a word about it but lots of grins and wicked smiles. we made our way down and through the crypts. I even fell a skeleton on my own using that sword that was way too long for me to swing correctly as I would learn. Mostly trying to stay warm cause pee doesn’t keep leathers worn for long. They get cold fast.

Afterward, we retired to the Fabled Baths of Dre’Ana within the confines of Sharla’s to hear about training and clean up. I peeled off my cold and still very damp leathers and tossed them aside as I found the warmth of the baths. Soon I would notice other suits of leather piled upon mine. Then the breakdown of training happened. Entry into the crypts was as planned but due to mummy, Nawen is now known as Sister Puddles till she does something else even more embarrassing. I would learn all those other suits were for me to clean too cause they hugged me as I peed.

The nickname didn’t last long. as it is hard to call one Sister Puddles when she keeps standing up from getting knocked down without complaining or pushes forward as hard as the more skilled sisters. Other nicknames would be given and earned. History would be written and the name Nawen would come to appear often in Elysia’s history and the Warrior Maidens history. While her history itself is bumpy and uncertain at times but that’s a tale for another time.

Tales of First Adventures series is inspired by Ladies Night at Vorin’s Treasure Trove and Rest that was held by Sister Clemence of Aarilax; Courtier of Drakehall and Manager of Vorin’s Treasure Trove and Rest.
