|Least_Compatible_Notes= The griffon and the spider are as different as the sun and the moon.
|Introduction= The griffon has the body of a lion, but the wings and head of an eagle. Not counting the wings, it is about the same size of a lion. However, it has more strength than a normal lion. The griffon makes a strange noise that's a bit like screeching and a bit like growling.
|Feeding_Habits= The griffon often preys on medium to large sized mammals, such as horses.
|Disposition_Social_Habits= The griffon is a rather aggressive creature. It will respond to any threat violently. It is also intelligent and has much potential in training. Oddly, the griffon seems to be attracted to gold.
|Habitat= Temperate hills.
|Other_Notes= The griffons used for observation are a fiendish kind summoned by the author.

On a summer evening in the year 2225, two rangers brought a halfling girl to the Blandenberg Orphanage. They had found her playing with some dire wolf cubs in the woods, as if she was one of them. When they tried to approach the girl, a giant she-wolf attacked them fiercely. The rangers had to kill the she-wolf to capture the girl.

The girl, about 9 years of age, was as wild as a dire wolf. She tore off any clothes put on her, would only eat raw meat, and howled at night. The orphanage staff did everything they could to rehabilitate her. After two months their efforts paid off. The girl started to give up her wolf ways and socialize with the other children.

They named her Kaya. Kaya picked up the common tongue with surprising speed, a sign that she used to speak the language. She also knew a few halfling nursery rhymes—with lyrics altered to druidic prayers. However, she would not say anything about her past.

Three years later, just as everyone thought she was going to be a normal child, Kaya successfully escaped from the orphanage. A search party was sent out but found no trace of her.

Kaya was never sighted in Blandenberg again.

~Six years later~

The peaceful nation of Ferrell greeted a daughter she had not known: a halfling girl with a dire wolf padding by her side. She was clad in a ragged leather armor, while her sickle was kept sharp as new. She spoke common, but her speech was often baby talk mixed with hand gestures. One of the few things comprehensible from her words was that her name was Rain, and the dire wolf named Shera was her “sister”.

For a long time, Rain stayed in the woods, as typical druids do. She noticed that the commoners were afraid of her dire wolf, even though she was just as afraid of them. After discovering the grove on top of Kitanya Hill, Rain became a frequent visitor there. It was one of the most beautiful and tranquil places she had ever seen. And maybe for the first time in her life, she met a group of people she could relate to. Soon, Rain was converted to the faith of Skern in the Temple of Balance.

It was another month or so before Rain overcame her fear and entered the city. Before long she realized that no one here was going to do her harm, and that city-dwellers could be friendly too. So, Rain went from a wildling to just another busy Hin in Port Eridanus. She even rented a room in the Port Hole Inn. Later she would meet her neighbors, Tessa Tangletoe and Lute, who eventually became two of her best friends.

The watcher of the forest
Although accepted by Skern, Rain was still unfamiliar with his ways. The Priest of Balance and the druids in Kitanya's Grove all had their duties. Rain did not want to disturb them too much. So she left a message on the bulletin board, hoping someone who also follows Skern would see it and find her.

The response came from a ranger named Belina Greenberry, who introduced Rain to the wise druid, Emrys Y'Coeden. Together, they instructed Rain in Skern's philosophies.

Rain never forgave the two rangers who killed her wolf mother, and therefore did not warm up to Belina at first. As she grew in wisdom, Rain came to realize that she had been foolish. It was not fair to blame all rangers for the doings of two. Besides, if not for those two rangers, she would still be living like a dire wolf.

From Belina and Emrys, Rain learned of the existence of Shemathen'Le'Yeritath, or Watchers of the Forest in the common tongue. Living and fighting with people who also care about nature's well-being was everything she had dreamed of. After participating in several Shemathen meetings, Rain became a formal member and began her watch.

Appearance and personality
Nyla stands 4 feet tall, wears lots of green and always wears her bright blonde hair in a ponytail. She appears mostly neat and tidy except for the occasional grass stain on her knees or twig in her hair. She is very naieve to the world around her, but also intensely curious.

She will most often bee seen holding onto a beautifully crafted shortbow, given to her by Eleanor of the Warrior Maidens. She also has a matching set of daggers for those up close and personal fights.

All sorts of animals are likely to be lingering around her as well, but most likely they will be ferrets, raccoons, or badgers. She can be seen playing with a ferret most often, who goes by the name of Rascal.

Early life
Nyla was born just outside the Southlands in Ferrell. Her family owns a small farm there. They grow all their own food and keep their own livestock. They are quite self-sufficient, only going into town to sell what little surplus they may have from time to time. Because of this, Nyla grew up knowing very little of the outside world, even outside a few miles from her home.

She has an older sister, Marla, who they have not seen in years. Her parents will not speak of what happened, so Nyla is left to the stories of her brother, Lorn. He says she was killed by beasts in the woods. Nyla somehow doubts that, since most of the animals she has seen seem perfectly happy to co-exist with her. Nyla spent a great deal of her earliest childhood playing near the edge of the woods by their home. Here she met raccoons, badgers, ferrets, and weasels, all more than happy to become her friend. Since she was essentially cut off from the rest of the known world, and other children, these became her playmates, much to her parent's dismay. On occasion they would somehow find themselves inside the house, the barn, and occasionally inside stores and shops when Nyla would go to town with her parents.

Current
Nyla was wandering in the woods recently and dropped the bow her sister Marla had given her. She has no idea where. Mamma had warned her about gallavanting in the woods, but she had to have her bow back. This proved to be the adventure of a lifetime for little Nyla. Her search for her bow brought her to T'Nanshi where she met all sorts of new people and saw new places she never knew existed. Here she met Tessa Tangletoe and they were instant friends. Tess actually made her a new bow to replace her lost one. Nyla knew she couldn't just go back home anymore. Her parents would want to keep her there, and.... she had to see this whole new world that just opened up for her.

Some notable experiences she has recently had:

She met Miss Eleanor, of the Warrior Maidens. Eleanor has had a profound effect on Nyla, showing her the ways of Dre'ana, and her followers. Nyla had heard of the Maidens from her sister Marla when she was very young and has always had a curiosity and a desire to become on someday. At the recent Ferrell Trade Fair, Eleanor procured the beautiful bow Nyla can be seen wielding, that is never out of reach of her hands.

Nyla also had the opportunity to meet Telenial, an animal trainer during a class. Miss Tel as she calls her has become the official Teacher to Nyla of all things animal. Tel is not the only teacher however, she has also learned from Bella, Nero, Hush, and Eowien. They can all be seen sometimes deep in the forest training animals together.

After participating in several Shemathen meetings, Rain became a formal member and began her watch.

After participating in several Shemathen meetings, Rain became a formal member and began her watch.

Rain Merstin is a halfling Druid of Skern. Her hair is silky black, which she usually keeps in a long ponytail. She has tanned skin and big brown eyes. Standing at 3′4″, she's short even for a halfling. Rain is slender and nimble. Her palms and knees are thickly calloused. Those with sharp eyes might notice her unusually pointy teeth when she grins.

Rain's ability to read and write is very limited. She has been learning from her friends lately and has made some progress. She also constantly mispronounces “pelail”. So far no one has corrected her yet...

((Team-approved backstory))

Woodland Stride (Ex): Starting at 2nd level, a druid may move through any sort of undergrowth (such as natural thorns, briars, overgrown areas, and similar terrain) at her normal speed and without taking damage or suffering any other impairment. However, thorns, briars, and overgrown areas that have been magically manipulated to impede motion still affect her.

Woodland stride works in overgrown areas (which were coded by Tissa for area builders). We decided to make it also work on Entangle, even though it should not. However Grease is a magical effect, and webs are either magical in nature or created by creatures. Neither is an overgrown area, so woodland stride has no effect in them.
Description: Druids are divine spellcasters who receive their spells from gods aligned with nature. They strive to live in harmony with the natural world, and hate anything that is not part of the natural cycle, especially aberrations and undead creatures. As they gain experience, they learn to take the shapes of animals and eventually of more powerful creatures. The strict oaths taken by every druid prohibit using weapons and armor outside their traditions.

Druids are essentially priests of nature. In the older editions of the D&D Player's Handbook (PHB), druids had a very hierarchical structure to their organization. This is possible on Avlis too, but it is not the only norm. Structure depends on alignment. Therefore druidic orders with neutral or lawful alignments will have more order than chaotic druidic orders. Not all gods on Avlis can produce druids. These are the gods who do have druids:
Dru'El,
O'Ma,
Pelar,
Dre'Ana,
Titania,
Dagath,
Skern,
Balgar,
Berryn,
Cha'reth,
Yeraiah and
Verossa.

Druidic orders are often not related organizationally to the church of the same god. However, sometimes they work together, like in the case of the Church of O'Ma and O'Ma's druidic order. Sometimes there is tension between the church and its druidic order because they do things a little differently ritualistically and they have concerns in different areas.
Druids gain their spells from the god(s) they follow, much the same way a Cleric or Paladin does. It does not come from nebulous force of nature, or the earth itself. It is the power of their god, channeled though them. It isn't the druid who picks the target of lightning when he or she calls it down, but rather his or her god that directs it.

PC

Rain Merstin is a halfling Druid of Skern. Her hair is silky black, which she usually keeps in a long ponytail. She has tanned skin and big brown eyes. Standing at 3′4″, she's short even for a halfling. Rain is slender and nimble. Her palms and knees are thickly calloused. Those with sharp eyes might notice her unusually pointy teeth when she grins.

Rain's ability to read and write is very limited. She has been learning from her friends lately and has made some progress. She also constantly mispronounces “pelail”. So far no one has corrected her yet...

The wolf girl of Blandenberg
((Team-approved backstory))

The wildling of Skern

Alignment:
Normally, the Shemathen accepts followers of all the major nature oriented deities. Shemathen'Le'Yeritath is based in the forests of T'Nanshi. The Forest represents the ultimate flowering of Nature in a dynamic state. Therefore the Forest is both a symbol and a model for a healthy land. However the society is interested in any area where Natures' well being is threatened. A primary goal of this society is to provide training opportunities for candidates. As such, candidates are highly encouraged to seek out and become a follower of a senior society member.

The Circle of Seven
The ultimate decision making body of Shemathen is the Circle. The Circle is comprised of seven members that have distinguished themselves as being both strong advocates for nature as well as their ability to work in cooperation towards collective wisdom. Each Circle member has an equal voice when moots are conducted and allowed one vote. That being said, wisdom is the ultimate leader and therefore during an operation everyone is encouraged to provide input and assist in the decision making process.

Speaker of the Shemathen
Following the sightings of an Emerald colored light, and sweet birdsong accompanying it, the position of Speaker was formed to be a Public Face for the Shemathen. The first Speaker is set to be Jensen Rintel, an Avenger of Dru'El.

Activities
Shemathen do what is needed to develop and foster a working knowledge of nature, without a goal of profiteering. Members are involved in studies regarding nature such as: Lifestone research, companion training, alchemical studies, and herbalism. In conjuction with other guilds, the Shemathen have sought to protect and foster a respect of nature by using resources wisely. We plant, guard, heal and inform. If there is a task in Natures' best intrest, some of us will do it.

Membership
We are society Primarily comprised of rangers and druids, though we do have other champions of nature. The primary criteria for membership requires the Candidate to demonstrate a strong connection to Nature; the commitment of which, is reflected in the taking of the oath. Members are not restricted in other guilds or activities as long as they do not contradict the Oath.

Interested Candidates should seek out an ranger or druid, or simply tell the forest. The plants and animals are our eyes and ears.

Rain's ability to read and write is very limited. She has been learning from her friends lately and has made some progress. She also constantly mispronounces “pelail”. So far no one has corrected her yet...

The wildling of Skern

----
Appearance
M.J. is a female who is a bit short for a human. The shape of her green eyes and her ears might suggests some elvish blood, perhaps. Although, she'll tell you her father hated elves. You'll rarely see her in a dress, and she prefers dressing in browns.
----
Background
M.J. is the seventh and youngest (as far as she knows) child of Captain Arlen MacMurray owner of the merchant ship Fortune. She does not have any information on her mother, as all such inquires were rebuffed as long as she can remember. She has six older brothers: Abboid, Cormick, Cowan, Cian, Sheridan and Grady. All of who were employed on her father's vessel. M.J.'s assignment on the Fortune was as cooks-mate and, as the cook was also the ship's healer, she also learned a few healing arts.
----
Early Life
Arrival in Elysia
M.J. hated the regimented discipline required to keep out of trouble on the merchant vessel. Every crewman on the vessel seemed to make it their personal duty to chastise her. M.J. dreamed about what it would be like to walk in cool forests and warm meadows. She longed for the freedom to make her own choices. So, she resolved to leave as soon as she "came of age". Luck was with her on the night she turned 21, for the Fortune was docked. She took her few possessions and managed to slip away. She felt somehow that even though she was old enough to determine her own destiny, it would be difficult to leave her overbearing father. She approached the Captain of a ship sailing up the Eridanian River and bought passage to Elysia.

A New Faith
Discovering the life of an adventurer in Elysia, lead M.J. to her first brush with death. This experience lead her to a new faith in O'Ma. Feeling chosen by her new god, she also became connected to her spirit animal, the wolf.

Alchemist in Training
M.J. also sought out an apprenticeship in the Guild of Advancement of Knowledge and Nature on the advise of her closest friend, Benedict Brightfeather. Shortly after joining she took up residence in Ferrell to be closer to the Guild and several friends she had made. After many long hours she has made the rank of Journeyman.

----

First Adventures
FEAT
M.J. also became a full fledged member of the Ferrell Exploration and Adventuring Troupe. Her sponsor was Ognor Kro-Tash. The members of FEAT became her mentors and extended family. They helped shaped M.J. as she honed her skills as a warrior and a woodsman. She learned to face down the army of Se'Fassu, the the Orcs of Meygle Pass, the Children of the Dreadlord and the Salt Clan. She held the post of Keeper of the Dice for a short while as well, leading FEAT against the demons in Geritri Forest.

Solar Brigade
About this time she also heeded a call from Micah Elizabeth Ormane for help with the Solar Brigade. Joining the Solar Brigade lead M.J. up against the lich Hallimancus. Infighting among the guild members caused a brief breakup with the guild. Later the guild was revived briefly and tracked another lich named Clarance which may or may not have had a connection to the spreading demon infestation or Se'Fassu. This investigation seemed at a close after the demons were banished and no further information was forthcoming. Later, Nayala Gelbert invited M.J. along as the mage orders finally tracked down and put an end to Hallimancus on the moon.

Recent Adventures
Le'Nofaythen'T'Nanshi 6th Division
After seeing the end of Hallimancus, M.J. felt a growing unrest as she heard more tales of the Drotid invasion of M'Chek, Elysia and T'Nanshi. Worried that Rhissaerk Jalesh would not be able to keep his word that the Drotid warbands would stay out of Ferrell, and worried over the Council of Elders seeming dismissal of FEAT during recent events, M.J. became a recruit to Le'Nofaythen'T'Nanshi 6th Division in hopes of opposing the Drotid's intentions and protecting Ferrel.
