Background
Early Life
Sylux was born in the slums of Mikona, called the residences at the time. His mother stayed at home and did small scale tailoring for the locals, his father owned a small stable for carpentry in the Marketplace.
Childhood was hard for Sylux. His older brother Eudoras, a difference of twelve years, often helped his father with the business but dreamed of more. When Eudoras was eighteen (Sylux was six), he set off for the Kurathene
to become a soldier and hopefully find a better place of living for his family.

In Eudoras' absence, the family business began to steadily decline. Sylux's father couldn't purchase a building for his business and his stall was easily overshadowed by the more wealthy, established businesses in the area.
Gangs and bandits were multiplying in the area, and the residences began to deteriorate into the slums. Fearing it was no longer safe to raise a family, Eric Raynes (the father) decided it was time to consider new options.
When the promise of a new beginning arose with the establishment of Visimontium, Sylux's family began making plans to move north. They would never quite make it, however.

The Start of Wizardry
A few weeks after Eudoras had left for the Kurathene, Sylux's father presented him with a book for his sixth birthday. The family was unable to afford a formal education, and Sylux couldn't read. However, his father had hoped
that providing him with a simple book might help him learn to read and write with the help of his mother. Sylux caught onto reading quickly and fell in love with literature, seeming to have an unquenchable thirst for knowledge.
Sylux began making daily trips to the local library, against his mother's wishes, in order to get new books and read more. When he wasn't reading, he would help his mother take care of his two younger twin sisters, Ashley and Amanda.

Shortly after he began his daily trips to the library, Sylux was ambushed by a group of gang members and beaten horribly. He was stripped of everything he was carrying, including his clothing and was eventually returned home by the Guard.
This was the beginning of the family's decision to consider finding a new place of residence. Once recovered from his encounter, Sylux sought out an alternate route to the library that would avoid confrontation with the local gangs.
Having found one, his daily trips to the library resumed and he would constantly read new things. His hope was that educating himself through reading would allow him to earn a better livelihood when he was older and help support his family.
This would all change when he stumbled upon a very strange book in the library, filled with strange runes and archaic markings. Diagrams in the book depicted images of lightning, fire and various other things.

Overwhelmed with the book, Sylux raced home to show is mother what he had found. He was so excited that he took the direct route home, neglecting to avoid the gangs. He was beset and beaten nearly to death by the same gang members, again stripped
of everything he was carrying. As he lay bleeding and fighting for consciousness, he heard a loud cry and a deep snarl. Gaining enough consciousness to open his eyes, he could see a flying creature attacking the gang members, killing several of them
in a frenzy before they ran, dropping everything they had taken. The creature then flew over to Sylux and before he lost consciousness, he could see what looked like the wings of a giant butterfly and the mouth of a lizard.

When he awoke, he was in the Shelter of Hope and was told that the Guards were alerted by a series of loud animal cries and they brought him to the Shelter, though the source of the noises could not be found. Sylux spent the next several months in the Shelter of Hope, recovering from near death. His parents visited a couple of times and decided to wait for his recovery before setting off to Visimontium. During his stay in the Shelter, Sylux continued to try and read the book he had found and eventually located a folded note inside the book. The note stated that the book was a journal kept by a mage nearing his death and he had bound his familiar to the book. Whomever could read and understand the secrets in the book, and whose heart was found pure by the "guardian" would become the new master of it.

Upon reading the letter, the butterfly winged, lizard-like creature appeared to Sylux. It stated its name was Xaos and that it was the "guardian" and the "familiar" referenced in the book. After a short time, Xaos began to teach Sylux the basics of the arcane and helped him with his reading and writing. The two became very close friends and Xaos was a source of hope and joy for Sylux during his recovery. By the time Sylux was released from the Shelter, he was able to cast the most basic of spells, called cantrips.

Pain and Revenge
Upon his release, Sylux raced home to share everything he had learned with his parents and help them finalize their preparations to move. When he neared his house however, he was met with a sharp stab of pain at the sight of his house burned to the ground. In despair, he neared the remains of his house and found the bodies of his father, mother and two younger twin sisters. His mother was chained to the floor and his father was chained to a stone chair as the house burned. This was no accident.

Assuming he knew what had happened, Sylux called upon Xaos and stormed to the alleys where the gangs resided and unleashed what little magic he knew, as well as his familiar on the gang members, killing everyone he could find. This left him with an overwhelming sense of despair and emptiness, as his revenge did nothing to bring back his family. For days, he wandered around the slums until he finally resolved to crawling into a cracked wall and remaining there until he died.

His loyal friend, Xaos, would not allow this however. Over the next twelve years of Sylux's life, Xaos nurtured him and taught him. She hunted for him and shared her knowledge of the world, stories of her old master and the few secrets of the arcane that she understood. Her friendship and support carried Sylux out of his despair and helped him find the will to survive. While he remained reclusive for these twelve years, Sylux studied endlessly and would occasionally make trips to the markets and the docks.

A New Beginning
Eventually, Sylux stumbled upon a man named Fergus Q. Goodmane who spoke briefly with him. Sylux was fascinated with Fergus' understanding of the arcane and his kindness. Eventually, he informed Fergus of his own studies in the arcane and Fergus took him to a home in the Markets and spoke with him at length about the Trust of Andrinor and the White Order of the Light. He then invited Sylux to attend a meeting of other White Mages and to see if he could find a home there amongst them.

Sylux eagerly agreed and spent the next several days interacting with other people of Mikona and learning about the recent happenings. When the day for the meeting arrived, Sylux was escorted to Visimontium by a wandering adventurer that was heading that way and eventually found his way to the White Tower in Visimontium. As the meeting progressed, Fergus introduced Sylux to the others and they each took time to talk with him and teach him more about themselves, magic and the Trust.

When the meeting was over, Sylux felt he had found a home and voiced his desire to join the White and learn from them. What Sylux didn't know, was that this decision would be the first in a series that would shape the rest of his future and grant him a new beginning at life.

A New Faith
One of the White Magi Sylux spoke with was Sapphire Moon and she spoke with him a bit about faith. Sylux had read much about the gods but truly knew little. She brought him to a recruiting meeting of the Order of Gorethar and after speaking with Hert Snyder, Sylux accepted the faith of Gorethar and became an Adherent to the Order. Over the next several years of his life, Sylux would pour a great deal of effort into earning a place in the Order and trying to be an example of his faith.

A New Path
A short time after his joining of the White Order of the Light and the Order of Gorethar, Sylux met a Housewoman of M'Chek named Moira Celyn Windspar who took time to get to know the young man and promised to help him stay on his feet in Mikona. Over their time together, Sylux and Moira became very close and developed a Mother/Son relationship. It was because of Moira that Sylux was eventually convinced to join the M'Chekian Guards.

Within the Guard, Sylux had three goals:
* Be an influence of Gorethar's faith in a law enforcement organization that was flooded with and ran by Valokians
* Gain the trust and support of the general populace by turning the Guard into a unit of integrity and justice
* Change the focus of the Guard from law enforcement to protection of the people

Sylux never expected to actually achieve any of these goals, but he would spend the majority of his life trying to do so.

Craft Wand is the second type of artificing implemented. This is the act of putting the power of a spell into a specially prepared wand.

Materials
To craft a wand you need special base wands. Not just any stick will do. The better the base wand you use, the better the spell you can put into the wand. Wands are limited in the range of spells they can hold. Wands have minimum caster levels and minimum charges varying with the base wand used, minimum caster level for a given spell is not applicable. It is possible to increase both caster level and the number of charges in the crafted wand with gems. Each base wand can hold a certain number of gems. Further information about base wands and gems must be gained ICly. <font color=red>Information about base wands, gems, their in-game locations and how to use them in wand crafting should be treated the same way as crafting recipes. This information can only be shared ICly.</font>

Using Metamagic Feats
When crafting wands, it is gems that enhance the spells as they are released, the wand itself only stores the base magic of the spell. When crafting a wand, you need not cast the spell with any metamagic feats, with the exception of energy substitution. All metamagic for a wand requires a certain kind of gem, however with energy substitution you still must substitute the energy to atune the gem to the proper energy.

XP Cost
As with all artificing, every wand carries with it an XP cost. This cost is similar to that outlined in 3rd edition PnP, but only half that cost. Thus the formula for a given wand is:
:: (Ajusted spell level) x (Caster level) x (Charges) x 0.5

Determining Success
Difficulty Categories and Difficulty Classes
Crafting a wand is the same difficulty as scribing a scroll of a spell four levels higher. However there is no base DC for the different difficulty categories. The DC for crafting a wand depends on its adjusted spell level, caster level, number of charges and its difficulty for the artificer.

There is also no minimum chance of failure, if the DC is lower than your modifier then you will always succeed.

Additional Craft Wand Modifiers
In addition to the modifiers listed in the overview section, the following modifiers are also added:
: +2 for the Scribe Scroll Feat

Creation Time
Crafting wands takes only as much time as is needed to prepare the wand and then cast the spell.

Crafted Wands
Artificed wands are named according to who crafted them, the power of the spell relative to its minimum power and metamagic effects that it has. There is no way to determine a wand's caster level once crafted, short of using it and judging its effects.

Important OOC Information
Player-created wands are p-merchant, ep-chest and p-chest safe. Player-created wands in these types of storage will retain their power. There is no extra information about wands when they are put in p-merchants or ep-chests.

Note that artificing is intended to be a gold sink. You are not meant to make money crafting wands and selling them to Bioware vendors for large markups. Bioware vendors are ingorant of wands true power or lack thereof and do not adjust their prices accordingly. <font color=red>Selling wands with higher Bioware caster level than the caster level on the wand is exploiting the engine and is a bannable offense.</font>

Definitions
DC - Difficulty Class. A number that you must equal or beat after rolling 1d20 and adding appropriate modifiers.

Spell Casting Ability - This is the ability score that is tied to a spell caster's ability to cast spells. For assassins and wizards this is Intelligence. For bards and sorcerers it is Charisma. For blackgaurds, clerics, druids, rangers and paladins it is Wisdom. When casting a spell the score that is used is always based on the class used to cast a spell.

Scribe Scroll is the first type of artificing implemented. This is the act of storing the power of a spell in a piece of paper. <!--Note, as of spellhooking version 1.7.3.1, the Angadar plot is being enforced. Non-Angadarians can only create spells of level 4 and below. Attempts to create scrolls of 5th-level and above will fail for non-Angadarians. Removed by Krator-->

Materials
To scribe a scroll you need special paper. Not just any paper will do. The better the paper you use, the better the spell you can put on the paper. All spells are scribed at the minimum level required to cast them - not your caster level. For example, a fireball scroll will be scribed with a caster level of 5. However, it is possible to scribe a scroll with a higher caster level. You will need to special inks to do this. You can reserve multiple ink bottles for use with a single scroll. Further information on paper and ink must be gained ICly. <font color=red>Information about paper, inks, their in-game locations and how to use them in scribing scrolls should be treated the same way as crafting recipes. This information can only be shared ICly.</font>

Using Metamagic Feats
When scribing scrolls, you can enhance the spells stored with metamagic feats. You may use any combination of spells memorized using feats you know and metamagic feats stored in rods. However, the paper used must be able to hold the full power of the modified spell.

XP Cost
As with all artificing, every scroll carries with it an XP cost, the formula for a given scroll is:
:: (Ajusted spell evel) x (Caster level) x 0.75.

* NOTE: Cantrips and orisons are consdiered 1st level spells for artificing and so do cost XP.

* NOTE: As of 1.6.0.3, additional XP is spent based on caster level per PnP rules.

The minimum XP cost for scribing a scroll are as follows:
: 0th - 1 x 1 x 0.75 = 1 XP
: 1st - 1 x 1 x 0.75 = 1 XP
: 2nd - 2 x 3 x 0.75 = 5 XP
: 3rd - 3 x 5 x 0.75 = 12 XP
: 4th - 4 x 7 x 0.75 = 27 XP
: 5th - 5 x 9 x 0.75 = 34 XP
: 6th - 6 x 11 x 0.75 = 50 XP
: 7th - 7 x 13 x 0.75 = 69 XP
: 8th - 8 x 15 x 0.75 = 90 XP
: 9th - 9 x 17 x 0.75 = 115 XP

* Note: Sorcerers and other casters that have different spell progression tables than wizards will find these minimums slightly higher, due to the higher minimum caster level for those classes.

Determining Success
Difficulty Categories and Difficulty Classes
The base DC for scribing a spell is listed below. This DC is increased by 1 for every 4 caster levels invested in the scroll.

: Trivial (Base DC 10) - The level of the spell you are attempting to scribe is lower than your artificer level. Creation of these scrolls fails only about 1% of the time, but grant you no artificer experience upon completion.

: Easy (Base DC 15) - The level of the spell you are attempting to scribe is equal to your artificer level. Creation of these scrolls fails only about 2% of the time and grant you artificer xp equal to 25% of the xp you expend in the scroll's creation.

: Challenging (Base DC 20) - The level of the spell you are attempting to scribe is one greater than your artificer level. Creation of these scrolls will fail about 5% of the time, even if you are well-versed in magic. Scribing a challenging scroll will grant artificer xp equal to 60% of the xp you expend in the scroll's creation.

: Difficult (Base DC 30) - The level of the spell you are attempting to scribe is two greater than your artificer level. Creation of these scrolls will fail 10% of the time even if you are very well-versed in magic. Scribing a difficult scroll will grant artificer xp equal to 100% of the xp you expend in the scroll's creation.

: Improbable (Base DC 40) - The level of the spell you are attempting to scribe is three levels greater than your artificer level. Creation of these scrolls will fail 50% of the time even if you are extermely well-versed in magic. Scribing an improbable scroll will grant artificer xp equal to 120% of the xp you expend in the scroll's creation.

: Impossible (Base DC 100) - The level of the spell you are attempting to scribe is four or more levels greater than your artificer level. Attempted creation of these scrolls will fail 100% of the time.

: Examples:
:: A fireball scroll, of 5th caster level, scribed by a level 1 artificer, will have a DC of 31 and a minimum failure rate of 10%.
:: A fireball scroll, of 5th caster level, scribed by a level 2 artificer, will have a DC of 21 and a minimum failure rate of 5%.
:: A fireball scroll, of 10th caster level, scribed by a level 2 artificer, will have a DC of 22 and a minimum failure rate of 5%.

Additional Scribe Scroll Modifiers
In addition to the modifiers listed in the overview section, the following modifiers are also added:
: +2 for the Scribe Scroll Feat

Creation Time
It takes time to scribe a scroll, the minimum time is 10 rounds. For every 1,000 gp value (rounded up) of the completed scroll, the scroll takes 1 additional round to scribe. Buying and preparing the blank papers also adds to this time but is separate from this creation time.

The Scribe's Mark and Viewing Scrolls
A new item called a <font color=blue>scroll viewer</font> is required to view information about player-created scrolls. When using a scroll viewer, five pieces of information will appear:

* Spell Name
* Caster Level
* Metamagic Feats Stored (if any)
* The scribe's name.
* What world the scroll was created on.

Important OOC Information
Player-created scrolls will not stack with Bioware scrolls. They will only stack with themselves, and only if the caster level, spell DC and metamagic feats used to create the scroll were the same. If scrolls from two different casters are combined, the entire stack will look as if it was created by one of the two casters. Also note that when scribing, the scrolls never automatically stack. Even if two scrolls should stack, you will have to manually stack them as you scribe them.

<font color=red>Player-created scrolls are p-merchant, ep-chest and p-chest safe.</font> Putting player-created scrolls in p-merchants and ep-chests will erase the information about who created the scroll, but not the other information. Also, scrolls will be distinguished by DC, even for spells that have no use for their DC. For p-merchants and ep-chests, there is a special format for the entry that will describe the power of the scroll, it is:

(Caster Level) [Metamagic Feats] DC# (Quantity)

The metamagic feats are abbreviated as:

* X: Extended
* E: Empowered
* M: Maximized
* a: Acid
* c: Cold
* f: Fire
* l: Lightning
* s: Sonic

So an 11th caster level, extended, sonic substituted Flame Weapon scroll would show up as:

: Flame Weapon (11) [Xs] DC21 (1)

<font color=red>Player-created scrolls are not split safe!</font> If a stack of scribed scrolls is split then the new stack will not have any special properties on the scrolls in the new stack, i.e. meta-magic feats and caster level.

Note that artificing is intended to be a gold sink. You are not meant to make money scribing scrolls and selling them to Bioware vendors for large markups. Don't sell any scroll with a Bioware caster level higher than the caster level you invested in the scroll. So if you use the scroll viewer on the scroll and the level it reports is equal to or greater than the Bioware level on the scroll, you can sell it. <font color=red>Selling scrolls with a higher Bioware caster level than the caster level on the scroll is exploiting the engine and is a bannable offense.</font>

Definitions
DC - Difficulty Class. A number that you must equal or beat after rolling 1d20 and adding appropriate modifiers.

Introduction
Artificing is the art of creating magic items. The system is based on the 3rd edition PnP system, with a few twists. First, no metamagic feats are required to make magic items - however, there are other requirements to be met. To be an artificer, a character must have at least 7 caster levels - more for some classes. To create a particular item, and artificer must make an artificing check, which is very similar to a skill check. Every time an artificer succeeds at making an item, they gain a percentage of the character experience invested as the item as artificing experience. As an artificer gains artificing experience, they grow in artificing level and are able to make more complicated items.

Artificing was renamed from the "Enchantment system" to avoid confusion with the Enchantment school of spells. Artificing is transmutation magic, but can be done by any spell caster of sufficient level - regardless of their ability to cast transmutation spells.

There are currently two types of artificing possible. These are Scribe Scroll and Craft Wand.

Minimum Caster Levels
To use the Avlis Artificing System, you must have a certain number of levels in a spellcasting class. Palemaster effective caster levels (+1 for every odd palemaster level) are counted as levels of bard, sorcerer or wizard for this calculation. The requirements by class are as follows:
: Cleric 7
: Druid 7
: Sorcerer 7
: Wizard 7
: Bard 13
: Paladin 17
: Ranger 17

Levels from multiple spellcasting classes do not stack. So a multiclassed PC with 10 druid levels and 10 ranger levels will be able to scribe druid scrolls, but not ranger scrolls.

XP Cost
Artificing is the act of placing a small amount of your power into an object as a receptacle. Thus every artificed item carries with it an XP cost.

Determining Success
Just as with the crafting system, the artificing system uses xp and levels. Like all crafts, an artificer must have experience with simpler items before attempting more powerful items. When attempting to create magic items, an artificer makes an artificing check with a DC based on the difficulty of the items being crafted. Modifiers to this roll are gained based on the caster's primary spell casting ability bonus, and various skills and pertinent feats that the caster has.

General Artificing Modifier Components

* Spell Name
* Caster Level
* Metamagic Feats Stored (if any)
* The scribe's name.

* X: Extended
* E: Empowered
* M: Maximized
* a: Acid
* c: Cold
* f: Fire
* l: Lightning
* s: Sonic

:: (Ajusted spell level) x (Caster level) x (Charges) x 0.5

Determining Success
Difficulty Categories and Difficulty Classes
Crafting a wand is the same difficulty as scribing a scroll of a spell four levels higher. However there is no base DC for the differnt difficulty categories. The DC for crafting a wand depends on its adjusted spell level, caster level, number of charges and it difficulty for the artificer. Certain gems also affect the difficulty class.

:: (Ajusted spell evel) x (Caster level) x 0.75.

* Spell Name
* Caster Level
* Metamagic Feats Stored (if any)
* The scribe's name.

* X: Extended
* E: Empowered
* M: Maximized
* a: Acid
* c: Cold
* f: Fire
* l: Lightning
* s: Sonic

The world is constantly beset by forces of good, evil, law, and chaos. These factors are very black and white. Something is either good, bad, orderly or chaotic. All who follow Gorethar are born into this world with the important job of making sure the pull towards goodness and law is the most dominant one. When the nine warriors discovered the Eternal spark, which ultimately changed them into the Gods we recognize today, The warrior Gorethar was the only one who thought that the Spark should not be used by anyone because its power would most likely corrupt anyone who used it. The first sentence above, explains the ethos, that is the devout follower of Gorethar.

At the end of the Age of Gods, the newly created gods decided to consult other gods that were in keeping with their outlook for advice on the creation of their followers.... Gorethar enlisted the aid of Clangeddin the Dwarven god. Clangeddin told him that he should never fall prey to the imperfect ideals of others, and that he should create a race that will spread goodness and work hard, regardless of what the other gods and races would do. Taking this point further, Clangeddin went on to state that dwarves suited Gorethar's character the best, since they were so hardworking. He insured Gorethar that Dwarves would work hard to spread goodness throughout the planet in an effort to make it a better place. So, taking Clangeddin's advice, Gorethar created dwarves in the same way he suggested. To show his gratitude and satisfaction with his new race, Gorethar allowed Clangeddin to teach the Dwarven people craftsmanship, and to have a few priests of his own on Avlis. So, being the first race to walk Avlis, the dwarves quickly got started on improving their living conditions and philosophy before anyone else. They also spread out over a pretty sizable chunk of land.

Gorethar was also the first of the nine to create a holy warrior, the Paladin. Paladins were the very first holy warriors ever to appear on Avlis. They are almost as ancient as the Church of Gorethar itself.

Out Of Character Information
Paladins shall be covered in greater depth in a different document, however it should be noted here that ALL Paladins worship Gorethar, they belong to him and no other church. All of the nine major gods have their own holy warrior, the Paladin is the only one that is not a prestige class, all of the others will require DM intervention, in the form of a quest or other in game manner, to become one. The Paladin is the exception, you can select it during character creation.

Please be aware that to gain the Detect Evil ability at character creation, it is necessary to have some files installed in your override directory.

1) Extract the files cls_feat_pal.2da and feat.2da from your CoPaP1_0Hak. (You can do this with NWHak in your utils directory.)

2) Put BOTH those files in your override directory.

This ONLY works when creating a brand new paladin. The bug that requires this workaround makes it so the feat is not written to the bic file of an existing paladin.

While Gorethar is the creator and patron god of the Dwarves, he also has an affinity for warriors that fight to eliminate evil. His warriors are staunch in their beliefs that evil must be destroyed at all costs. When it comes to being good, Gorethar has no preferences or cares for the race of his worshipper. He is as kind and fair to his human paladin followers as he is to his Dwarven and lizard man followers. All races are found in his service, though Dwarves are the largest in number.

Followers of Gorethar believe that it's possible to have a society where everyone obeys the laws and everyone is happy, but remember, they also understand the "spirit" of the law. If a law is obviously going to hurt an innocent by carrying it out, they will make an exception. However, if you are not innocent and you broke the law, you deserve punishment accordingly. They are not as rigid as a LN society, but they can still be rigid in certain cases.

When one's deeds lead towards good and order for other people in addition to the one doing the deed, the forces of good and law are said to get a leg up on their opposites. By aligning your own beliefs and psyche with these forces of good and order, you will become an enlightened being who is able to see the will of Gorethar in the world.

Goodness and order take work! Gluttony and laziness are the bane of Gorethar and anyone who follows him. The forces that are constantly pulling at the world must be constantly countered. This is the path chosen by the devout of Gorethar. The hope of all who worship Gorethar:is that each person who is helped and enlightened may help an enlighten two others to bring about peace and tranquility for all.

Crafting is one method by which order may be brought, and this is why Gorethar made the dwarves and gave them the love of crafting. Dwarves are always hard working, and they constantly move about to beautify the surroundings of their homeland. At the deep root of it, Gorethar watches over crafting and preaches it because it teaches discipline, and it shows how to make something out of nothing. This is a representation of bringing order from chaos, and is thus sacred.

One should also not forget that Gorethar is a warrior first and foremost. Sometimes it is necessary to sacrifice a local peacetime to bring about goodness and order. When there is a fight to be had in support of these things, Gorethar is never far behind, and neither are his followers. Hate, mistrust, theft, murder, rape, plunder and destruction are always things that Gorethar will violently oppose. Mercy is to be had and quarter is to be given to those who surrender, however it is acceptable to make sure they are contained in the future.

Gorethar has temples in Kuras, Visimontium, Ferrell, Elysia and Mikona.

Andrinor solely distributes and allocates the magic drawn from the Mortal Magic Vortex. Whenever a wizard, bard, or sorcerer casts a spell, they are drawing energy from the Mortal Magic Vortex according to his permission. The only exceptions to this rule are wizards, bards, or sorcerers who are of Immortal status and up. They have access to the God Magic Vortex, over which Andrinor has no control.

Andrinor is often disorganized and unpredictable in his methods, however people of all races and alignments worship him out of necessity. Many enjoy it, while others feel grudgingly at his mercy. Either way, they are careful, as they should be. Magic is a delicate art and needs to be respected. Andrinor supports this notion and he will take great care to enforce it.

Andrinor has clerics who perform devotions to him, but his church is very informal and not organized very heavily. Often his clerics are doubling as wizards or sorcerers, and seek to gain extra power from him by devoting themselves totally to his service. These individuals are granted cleric spells from Andrinor in the usual way, i.e. filtered through the God Magic Vortex.

Andrinor has a temple in Visimontium, and a shrine in Mikona. Each branch of the Academy of Mortal Magic includes a chapel dedicated to Andrinor as well.

History
Around two thousand years ago, when the Great War was just ending, a dwarven hero by the name of Fegall arose. He was an instrumental figure in ending the war through the use of his craft and prowess in battle. Fegall's talent was for inventing, as he called his craft. Aside from being able to come up with new ideas, Fegall was extremely studious and handy with a hammer and anvil. By all accounts, he was a "Rennaissance Dwarf"... a master of all trades both manual and academic.

His role in the Great War won him many followers, many of whom desired to learn some of his more interesting trades from him. So once the war ended, Fegall set himself up in the southern portion of Galdos and begun to teach many new disciples.... for disciples are what they became. Fegall's works were legendary, and many were magical. Over time Fegall's talent became somewhat exaggerated in tales, but this served only to increase his following.

In the southern portion of Galdos there were two major groups of Dwarves.... one group that followed him religiously, and another who acknowledged his great talent, but declined to take part in the hype. This state of affairs grew in proportion until one day Fegall ascended to immortality and eventually godhood. His followers on the Prime Material Plane continued on his tradition as they do to this day.

Over time, the followers of Fegall began to change. They were getting a little shorter, with more bulbous noses and a skinnier build in some cases. The change took a little over 1000 years, but eventually the dwarves of Fegall were no longer dwarven, but gnomish. Thus, the dominant race in southern Galdos was the gnome, although there were still a great many dwarves around who acknowledged Fegall but didn't follow him. These dwarves and gnomes were influenced by their new god in subtle ways. They became more outgoing, and industrious. Even their speech underwent modification,

The Church of Fegall
The Church of Fegall and its dogma are not often in tandem with other philosophies and tenets of other gods. Fegall is the creator of the gnomes; however he also one of the gods of craftsmenship, but with a twist. Those who follow the other gods of crafting, like Gorethar, are of the mind that in a person's lifetime they are to excel at one single craft, and maybe a secondary one. Perfection is the key for them. Fegall's tenets do not include perfection, because it is the very imperfections of the world that they love to accentuate. A craftsman who follows Fegall is interested in learning as many crafts as he or she can in order to master the way of the entire world, rather than one single thing. That is the ideal anyway.

Another oddity of Fegall's followers is that their pursuit of crafting often extends to the more "academic" arts as well, such as alchemy, scribing, or even enchanting and magic. This has bred some very apparently orderly and methodical followers of Fegall who may sometimes even pursue the ways of science, and sometimes technology in addition to the more traditional academics.

Aside from his craftsmenship, Fegall is revered by all gnomes, or at least acknowledged by them as their creator. His center of worship is located in the nation of Deglos, however the Church of Fegall does not form any strict cohesive unit to speak of. Clerics of Fegall are often great craftsmen or academics in their own right, and although they see it as being very important to pass down their knowledge as Fegall did, there is no one Church-sanctioned way to do this. What often happens is that followers interested in learning a craft will flock to a cleric of Fegall who is regarded as an expert in that area. The cleric will collect these "disciples" around themself and they will organize into a "Guild". In this case, the word "Guild" has the connotation of a crafting guild. This crafting guild may or may not be part of an official city's craft guild if there is one, and they often have no official connection to the headquarters of the Church. However, the Church does not mind at all, because they merely regard it as a normal function of their religion to form groups for passing knowledge.

Fegall has three temples in Deglos, these are in the cities of Nanshi Urbaz, Nutzdagezehesple and Marizdun, and also has a temple in Visimontium.

Relationship with other Gods
Fegall was always an admirer of Forian in his mortal days; they consider each others friends. Fegall and Gorethar respect each other's work. Gorethar bears a bit of a grudge because he blames Fegall for the near civil war that made Galdos split into Galdos and Deglos, but it doesn't strain their friendship too much.

Ixldor was born in the village of Southill in M'Chek on Friday, October 13 in the fall of 2061. His human parents were afraid he would be born into a life of service for the M'Chek Army, since many children of these towns in Northern M'Chek were now being recruited at a young age and trained while they were still children. So, about a month after he was born, they secretly hid him in a merchant caravan bound to the capital city of Mikona with the hope that he would be able to make a life for himself and have the freedom of choice. Fortunately, his parents had a friend who worked in the Great Library of Mikona named Deranius Dakamour that agreed to raise Ixldor as his son.

It was a dark and rainy day as Deranius waited anxiously for the caravan to arrive to the gate of Mikona to be unloaded. Many hungry and poor peasants and farmers crowded the wagon as it slowly rolled past the houses outside the walls of the city, begging for food and clothing. Amidst the clutter of activity, Deranius went unnoticed as he grabbed the roll of blankets from the wagon that he knew carried the baby and quickly entered the city. When he returned home and unrolled the wrappings, he found a small note inside that had a single word written on it: 'Ixldor'. It was the first name his parents wished to give their child so they would know who he was if they meet him again in the future. Ixldor inherited Deranius' last name so he would not be singled out as an orphan, another group of young people the M'Chek army liked to look to for recruits.

Deranius taught Ixldor to read at a very young age, and much of Ixldor's free time was spent studying the countless books and tomes found within the Great Library. He excelled in his knowledge of history, the gods, nature, mathematics, and foreign language. However, after accumulating all of this knowledge, Ixldor still felt as if he was looking for something that he had not studied yet even though at the age of 14 he had read almost every book contained within the library. Then, during one quiet evening when the library was mostly empty of scholars and bookkeepers, he discovered a secret passage upstairs to a room he had never been in or heard of before. Within this room there were numerous magical scrolls and tomes scattered and piled on desks and shelves. Ixldor stared in awe at the strange and wondrous collection of knowledge as he began to realize how little he really knows and how much he has yet to learn. Over the next 3 years or so, he snuck into the secret room of arcane knowledge every night and rigorously studied the basics of arcane magic, learning to perform only minor incantations at first. But, Ixldor was a quick learner and within a short time could perform useful arcane spells of the first two circles of magic. His favorite spell to use in his fledgling career as a wizard was invisibility, which aided him in some rather mischievous acts within the Library. Eventually, people began to believe the building was haunted because of all the floating books, doors closing by themselves, sounds of footsteps emanating from empty space, and people being tapped on the shoulder only to turn around and see nothing. But, Ixldor finally wound up getting caught and was thrown out of the library because of his disruptive actions. Besides the disappointment Deranius felt towards him as a result of this incident, Ixldor was not too worried about not being able to study in the Library anymore since he felt he had reached the extent of what he could learn about magic there on his own. Now at the age of 19, he knew the time had come to make his own way in the world and seek out help in studying arcane magic further. So, after apologizing and bidding farewell to his apparent father, who gave him a few gold pieces for food and necessities, he set out to explore more of the city and its surroundings.

Ixldor was disappointed to discover that Mikona offered little opportunity and wares for an aspiring mage such as himself. But, after asking around, he determined that he must travel to the city of Elysia to seek out such useful help and knowledge of arcane magic. Unfortunately, the boat fare was more than he could afford at the time and he had no intention of seeking out a job to earn the gold needed through any kind of manual labor. However, after having continually witnessed so many people simply robbing houses or even the people of the city themselves without consequence, Ixldor decided he could do the same quite easily using his favorite spell to avoid detection. So, as that day turned to night, he cast invisibility and began sneaking into some of the houses in the docks district to collect the money he needed. As he exited the third house, he looked up and stopped dead in his tracks to find two armed figures, a male halfling and a tall woman, clothed in all black with helmets staring directly at him despite the invisibility spell that was still in effect. The woman cast a spell that Ixldor did not recognize which froze him in place, leaving him helpless and paralyzed as they began to question him about why he was breaking into houses. Too fearful to speak at first, he finally decided not to answer their question and instead asked them what authority they had in the city since they obviously did not appear to be guards. This clearly both surprised and upset the two figures, and after not getting a straight answer, Ixldor guessed that they in fact did not work for the city and were likely trying to rob him of what he had taken already. At this point, the woman cast another unrecognizable spell and began transforming into a terribly enormous, brutish creature with a flaming sword and crudely asked the halfling if she could kill. Ixldor knew he had to act quickly and recalled a strange potion he had found in one of the houses. Not knowing its effect, he decided to drink it anyways in hope that it would somehow aid him in escaping. As he finished it, his feet began to feel light as a feather and he found he was able to run off at an incredible speed and escape now that the woman's holding spell had worn off. He effortlessly ran across nearly the entire city before the hasting effect wore off, and took shelter in a room at the City Gate Inn using the money he had just obtained to pay for a night. As he lay down to sleep, he felt a newfound respect for potions and alchemy that had most likely helped save his life.

The next morning when Ixldor woke, he used invisibility to sneak back to the docks and board the next ship to Elysia, where he would make his new home and not return to Mikona for a very long time.

As Ixldor stepped off the boat onto Elysian soil for the first time, he admired the glistening white stonework that seemed so much brighter when compared to the darker city of Mikona, the sweeter smell of the ocean air, the sparkling magical energies of the many fey commoners, and most of all a friendly face greeting him as opposed to a masked oppressor. He knew instantly that this city was where he wanted to live for the rest of his life. After asking around the docks area a bit for directions to a magical shop, he was directed to the Artisans District where he was told there was a tower that housed a shop ran by an elven man named Oditerus. Between this place and a bookstore that he also discovered in the same district, Ixldor would have all the access to knowledge he needed to help in progressing as a mage. Now the only problem was money, of which he now had very little after purchasing only a couple scrolls. It was only when he wandered into a shop run by another elf by the name of Fanos that he found a solution to this problem. Already having a respect for the powers of alchemy and potions, it was here that he learned about the trade of alchemy and the potential of making a living from it based on his initial talk with Fanos. However, Fanos was a busy man with a shop to run and explained he had little time to teach alchemy himself, so Ixldor was forced to seek out people who were already beginning to study alchemy to learn from.

It was this search for an alchemist that led Ixldor to meet an elven man that would change his life forever, and shape what kind of man he would eventually become. That person was Cor'Angelus Gengue, who not only was studying alchemy, but also happened to be a very talented mage and even a member of a mage order, the Ashen Order of Stars. Cor'Angelus taught Ixldor the basics of alchemy, and the two would sit in Cor's room at the Shinning Light Inn and talk about magic and the history of the mage orders. Ixldor came to admire Cor's magical talents, his wittiness in his speech towards others, his knowledge of the world, and his ambition to become an influential and well respected individual. Furthermore, they shared common beliefs in the need for balance of arcane powers. It was from Cor that Ixldor also learned of the Vortex of Chaos, which was the main issue in the world of arcane magic at the time. In this matter, they again shared the common belief that the Vortex must be contained and sealed rather than destroyed or used.

Shortly after their meeting, Cor'Angelus founded the first organization for Alchemy and Herbalism in Avlis, which he called the Advancement in Knowledge of Nature (AKN), with the original purpose to research a cure for the spite and help correctly administer it to those suffering from the disease created by the Sereg. However, with the combined efforts of a halfling man named Jordicus, a human woman named Midnight, and an elven male named Elesai, the AKN would become one of the largest most successful organizations in the world. Ixldor joined shortly after the formation of the guild and was one of the first successful researchers in alchemy and herbalism, being the first to discover basic and strong healing kits as well as important potions like Bless, Endurance, Heavenly Healing, and even the famous and powerful Heal potion. He advanced his rank quickly and was the first person in AKN history to obtain the rank of Master. Shortly thereafter, he received 1 of 2 AKN Certificates of Excellence during the First Symposium of Alchemy and Herbalism held in the Magus Tower in Mikona, which was the first large event ever held in the newly constructed building. Eventually, he was appointed Headmaster of the AKN once Cor decided to finally step down and pursue other interests more actively.

Soon after he had joined the AKN, Ixldor further followed the mentorship of Cor'Angelus by becoming a member magus of the Ashen Order of Stars, where he began his intense studies in the art of arcane magic. At this time, the long time Archamge named Belaluldor Fereiwaluin had just stepped down from the position and handed it over to a young elven woman named Elrandra Glyndorr. Also during this period, the situation regarding the Vortex of Chaos had just begun to get serious, as the Vortex started appearing frequently throughout Avlis. Ixldor was present along with Cor'Angelus during the appearance in the Temple of Gorethar in Elysia, where the Vortex summoned several balors within the temple and created a lot of chaos and tension between the mage orders and the Order of Gorethar who was now directly involved in the situation. As soon as Aramil Fynn of the Ivory Order captured the Vortex and obtained it, Ixldor and his fellow Ashen mages found themselves allied with the Ebony order as they worked to attain control of it and prevent its destruction. However, the tides changed when Cyprian, original Archamge of the old Black order, attained control of it and attempted to use it in replicating Andrinor's ritual to ascend as a god. Then, Ixldor and his fellow mages immediately began working with the Ivory order to prevent the completion of this ritual. Together, they fought an army of balors and other demons as Cyprian performed it, and eventually Ixldor witnessed the destruction of Cyprian and the Vortex when Andrinor himself appeared and put an end to his purposeful game. As a result, Ixldor was honored to receive Andrinor's blessing as a member of the newly formed Trust of mages.

Also, this incident led to the formation of the High Mage Council of which Ixldor became a part of to help contribute to the regulation of mortal magic in Avlis. It was his involvement in this council that led to a personal, one on one meeting with Andrinor, God of Mortal Magic, himself who summoned Ixldor to the planes of Ysgard. He explained his displeasure towards a motion that had been proposed within the council by the new Ashen Archmage Lomir Ma'fer that called for the restriction of not allowing members of the Trust to be a part of any army involved in the war. Andrinor said it was not within the powers of the Council to restrict who can enter his trust because it would work towards decreasing his following and, consequentially, his power as a god. However, the explanation Ixldor gave of why he supported such a regulation in that it may lead to conflict between orders and cause members of the trust to loose focus in the study of magic itself was understandable to Andrinor and a credible reason. Even so, Ixldor eventually realized such a rule was against Andrinor's will and spoke out against it. As a token of Andrinor's satisfaction in Ixldor's career as a mage and encouragement for him to gain power, Andrinor gave him a great Staff of the Magi to wield once he became powerful enough to use it.

As Ixldor's work as an Alchemist in selling heal potions began to provide him with a steady and plentiful income, he decided to have a house constructed just outside the Dracon gate on the shore of the lake. Because he was now officially a citizen of Elysia and loved living there, he found himself fighting in its defense on several occasions. The most notable of these incidents was against the forces of the Balor King and working to destroy him in order to prevent the city's destruction. After a long battle in the noble's district against hundreds of demons, a plan was formulated to destroy the Balor King by lady Tenirra Arken'Held. The first step of this plan was the hard part, to recover the ancient weapons used by her parents from the Balor King's lair in the depths of the underdark. This daunting task was to be kept relatively secretive to create an element of surprise and to prevent alarming the Balor King as to the plan's final intentions. As a result, it was to be carried out by only three courageous Heroes: Mari Briggs who provided her powers over nature, Jorio Alerian who provided the warrior strength of the Battlelord, and Ixldor Dakamour who wielded the powers of mortal magic. Together, they fought their way through hoards of demons and balors down to the lowest level of the underdark where they were successful in recovering Tenirra's ancient artifacts. Ixldor's limits as a mage were tested during this task, and he prevailed even though at one time he was the only one of the three left standing. This alone made the capture of the Balor King possible in the first place.

Although Ixldor found his actions in defense of Elysia were appreciated shortly after he performed them, it seemed to him that these deeds were soon forgotten by the leaders of the Elysian Defense Force and the governing council. Often, as a result of his critical thinking process he had developed as a mage and alchemy researcher, he voiced his thoughts towards the city's laws in a manner he viewed as constructive feedback from a credible source. However, it was not accepted as such and eventually was seen as derogatory slander by the leaders of Elysia. Even though this reaction upset Ixldor, it upset Cor'Angelus even more who had voiced similar opinions. Both of them listened in disbelief as now former friends accused them or treason and thought nothing of their past actions in aiding the city. Then came the darkest day of Ixldor's life when Cor'Angelus, who felt helpless to amend his shattered reputation and change the way the city functions, took his own life and made his final journey to his death plane. The grief was unbearable for Ixldor as this was his first experience in loosing someone he loved as family. Not knowing how to deal with such intense emotions, they eventually developed into anger and frustration, which led him to recklessly use his destructive powers within the city of Elysia, causing the deaths of several innocent citizens. Melonius and Lomir Ma'fer immediately sent him to the Academy of Mortal Magic to seek solitude for several months. During this time, he was aided by Riva, a powerful monk of the Order of the Dragon, who mentored Ixldor in meditative practices and emotional control. It was difficult at first for someone as impatient and thoughtful as Ixldor was used to being. However, after a lot of work with Riva, he eventually was able to practice meditation on his own at a basic level.

When both Riva and Ixldor himself thought he was ready, he returned home to Elysia to make amends for the mistakes he had made and accept the consequences of his actions. As a result, he was removed from the High Mage Council, demoted from his position as Great Mage of Internal Affairs, and replaced as Headmaster of the AKN by Alex Noble. But, Ixldor has worked for the past couple years to restore his reputation within the city and within the organizations he once enjoyed involvement in. Now, he has returned to the AKN leadership and continues to carry out his clear understanding of the will of Andrinor, seeking to become an even more powerful and talented user of arcane magic.

----
Appearance
Marin is a female gnome of typical height, light brown hair, and her nose is of good size. She mostly wears her grey Order robes along with a small grey hood and carries a staff, Andrinor's Vigor, that is made in the design of Ninefold Promise. Occasionally, she can be seen in other outfits including her Holy Robes of Fegall, a Gorethar Festivus outfit, or other fancier attire. When in battle she usually puts on a Ganoom Thinking Contraption.

----
Background
Marin was born to a small mining guild in the north of Deglos that was a mix of gnomes and dwarves. She never fit in there and often resented the stricture of the Goretharites in the village but also sought more than what she knew from her fellow Fegallian ganoomkin. During adolescence found some arcane scrolls from the Enchantment school. She played around with these and found she had some talent in arcane magic. She remains true to her Fegall roots but is drawn to her arcane talents. She left her village and clan upon reaching adulthood and made her way to Elysia.

----
Early Life
<div align=justify>

Arrival in Elysia
Upon reaching Elysia, Marin met many new friends of all sorts. She went on many journeys with these new friends and learned much about both magic and the world around her. She met and spoke with a couple Ashen Order members, Archmage Wallace and Malis, who told her of the Order and their tower in Elysia. Marin spent many hours studying in the tower and eventually decided to become an initiate in the Order.
</div>

<div align=justify>

Alchemist in Training
Marin also sought out an apprenticeship in the Guild of Advancement of Knowledge and Nature to practice the Makken according to Fegallian tradition. Shortly after joining she took up residence in Ferrell to be closer to the Guild and several friends she has made. Ferrell also allows Marin to continue her studies at the Ashen Tower in Elysia.<br><br>
</div>

<div align=justify>

Solar Brigade
About this time she also heeded a call from the High Mage Council for freelancers. This group eventually became known as the Solar Brigade and had adventures from Visimontium to Mikona and places in between.<br><br><br><br>
</div>

<div align=justify>

Underdark Patrols
While working with the Ashen Order and the Blackhawk Company of M'Chek, Marin has been introduced to the Underdark. Initially the objectives were to keep the vermin at bay and collect specimens of these for research, a strange crystal was discovered. This was the Crystal of Xildress, a powerful mage who favors arachnids. The destruction of the Crystal the spider population returned to a more manageable level.
</div>

<div align=justify>

Angadarian Meddling
The Angadarian presence in Ferrell and Elysia had grown, especially as it has influenced Marin's life. Most significant of these effects is the corruption of Sephira Everliss, who left the Ashen Order after falling under the sway of Valinos. Additionally, Marin is concerned for her Avariel friends given the plot she has heard of regarding their conversion to Drangonari. Also of intrigue are any designs of either Valinos, or the greater Web, pertaining to the Cult of Evrak.
</div>

<div align=justify>
Professional Achievements
After long hours in many libraries and laboratories, as well as roaming Ferrell and elsewhere, Marin was able to demonstrate herself worthy of promotions. Within the Ashen Order she was given charge of their affairs in Ferrell, becoming Senior Mage for that nation. She also was able to pass the journeyman's examination within the Guild for the Advancement of Knowledge and Nature.
</div>
Recent Happenings
<div align=justify>
Growing Ashen Responsibilities
As change occurred within the Ashen Order, some restructuring was done which included consolidating Senior Mage positions into a pair. Marin transitioned into one of these, that of the South. As such, she now oversees Ferrell, Elysia, Toran Shaarda, T'Nanshi and M'Chek. Marin also has taken some young mages for mentoring.
</div>

<div align=justify>
Gudier Gadgetickes
More recently, Marin was fortunate enough to arrange to hire an assistant, named Rigrin Wisto, to manage a store, named Gudier Gadgetickes to buy and sell her alchemical and herbal items. Brisk sales in the beginning allowed for steady expansion to also buy plants and other stuff needed. After a while, GG grew to include some carpentry items and Marin began working with Nikki, a skilled carpenter. Marin also reconsidered about scribing for profit, she finally cracked that stone and put out some selected scrolls for sale. Her scrolls well received, she started discussing the art with Jayem Dareau to see if he might practice and work his prayers into scrolls.
</div>

<div align=justify>
Master Alchemist
Continuing her studies at the AKN, both sharing and learning, much at AKN Days, Marin finally made the push to take her Master examination. With Alvinar proctoring for her, she carefully made the needed items for demonstration of her abilities. Owing to her preparation, she managed to make everything and pass with some room to spare. Though there is much for her to learn still, she is proud to have all her hard work and reverence acknowledged.
</div>

<div align=justify>
Reforming of the Solar Brigade
After being mostly dispersed, the Solar Brigade has been reforming and looking to assist Visimontium again. Stumbling upon a lich, named Clarence in the Roseberry Woods, who claimed to know something of the Demons now in Visimontium. The Brigade researched and tracked down Clarence, but ultimately could only strike a blow to Clarence for the time.

Ferrell, nestled between the forests of T'Nanshi, the foothills of Deglos, and the rolling grassy plains of Toran Shaarda, Dubunat and Brekon lies the tiny nation of Ferrell. This peaceful little zone is little more than a large collection of hamlets built into the sides of naturally occurring grassy hills that roll through the area. However, it has remained steadfast and safe through out its entire 1800+ year history on Avlis.

__TOC__

Overview
Ferrell is a nation of halflings. Desiring the crisp clean air of the hill country, and the cozy comforting shelter of their housemounds, the halflings are very adept at keeping out of the affairs that churn around them. In a tiny area no more than a hundred miles from north to south, the halflings have managed to build hundreds of minor villages across the homey landscape. Some of these villages are quite small, consisting of no more than three or four housemounds clustered around a central walkway. Larger villages also exist. Kitanya Hill is one of the largest of them, consisting of several hundred housemounds, trading, and crafting facilities as well as major roads that lead to other places in Ferrell. Often, this place is regarded as the capitol of the low-profile nation, though such official distinctions are rarely regarded seriously in halfling society.

As a whole, Ferrell exists because many many halflings happen to live in that area, and few outsiders have ever come in to dispute the fact that they are a nation. Most goods are produced right on site within the village that consumes them, and any major resources such as metals or stone are often obtained from dwarven traders or halfing merchants in The Seven Cities. Aside from pipes, corn, and the occasional Ferrellian mellowsmoke weed, this nation does not export much, and it consumes very little.

On a smaller scale, Ferrell operates the way it does because of the halfling outlook. The majority of halflings are unconcerned with matters outside their own village. Their belief is that as long as each village can operate well on its own, and maintain reasonably favorable relations with all neighboring villages, there is no reason to think about matters beyond that. "Officially" there is a Council of Elders based in Kitanya Hill that tends to national matters, if there ever are any. However, the members of this council are rarely ever called upon to act in any political capacity. Most often they tend to their own personal lifestyles like all other halflings do. But they can act surprisingly swiftly if needed. On a local level, halfling life has many traditions and superstitions that keep the populace in order. They have very little need for petty laws.... nursery rhymes and songs about morality taught to them as children suffice just fine. Some larger villages will elect a Shiriff to oversee the safety of the inhabitants nearby, but these jobs are often just fillers and appellations given to yet another halfling with a comfortable lifestyle.
