Verossa is the evil goddess of natural destruction. Like the other minor gods and goddesses, she controls a smaller aspect of the world, rather than being a proponent of a large philosophy.

Wherever there is natural destruction of any kind, be it lightning, floods, storms, decay, fire, rain, snow, sleet, hail, there is the power of Verossa. It is this raw destructive power that she wields which attracts many evil power-hungry priests to her fold.

Verossa can make both clerics and druids. Clerics and druids of Verossa must be chaotic evil, but all chaotic characters can appreciate the awesome destructive power of nature. Those that do will often acknowledge Verossa in a prayer before travel, mainly for the purpose of warding her off. Some primitive commoners will even sacrifice small animals to "appease" her before a journey. Travel is very important on Avlis since it is largely done on foot. So the common folk take the dangers of weather on a journey very seriously.

Verossa is not exactly the goddess of weather because she doesn't have the ability to do NICE things with it. She only has limited control over the negative effects of it, in addition to any other kinds of non-weather related natural destructive effects. However, most of her abilities all lead back to bad weather.

The concept of "natural destruction" is up for semantic debate. Verossa seems to have a strict code followed by her "official" church. Un-natural destruction, i.e. murder and senseless harm is forbidden "officially", but like in any religion there are extremists who take the law a bit far. Oddly enough these extremists, often druids, still get spells granted to them even when they take their definition of "natural destruction" a bit too far. Rangers who follow Verossa are sometimes known as the Hand of Verossa.

Verossa is the mother to the god Evrak, who was sired by Maleki, and the daughter to Dru'el.

A temple to Verossa is said to exist somewhere in the wilds of T'Nanshi.

One of the Orders of Andrinor's Trust. The Ebony magi are dedicated to the pursuit of Magic to the purest of ends - for its Power. An Ebony mage is typically willing to do anything to further their knowledge, and often works at the expense of others. They seek to master all the mysteries of magic, including arts that others find reprehensible, and in doing so achieve fantastic powers.

The Order believes that all power is yours for the taking, but you must be willing to do what is necessary to make it your own. Some prefer force over subtlety, others trickery over brutality, but in the end all Ebony strive to enhance their foothold in the world. In the eyes of the Ebony, if you are incapable of doing what is necessary to achieve your ends, you are unworthy of the power you desire.
For more information, contact Archmage, or the Great Mage Armide, or any in the pitch black and red robes of the Order.
----
A Conjuration specialist can bring creatures to him, usually in the form of summoned allies.

Conjurations bring manifestations of objects, creatures, or some form of energy to the character (summoning), actually transport creatures from another plane of existence to the character's plane (calling), heal (healing), or create such objects or effects on the spot (creation). Creatures the character conjures usually, but not always, obey the character's commands.

A creature or object brought into being or transported to the character's location by a conjuration spell cannot appear inside another creature or object, nor can it appear floating in an empty space. It must arrive in an open location on a surface capable of supporting it. The creature or object must appear within the spell's range, but it does not have to remain within the range.

__TOC__

Calling
The spell fully transports a creature from another plane to the plane the character is on. The spell grants the creature the one-time ability to return to its plane of origin, although the spell may limit the circumstances under which this is possible. Creatures who are called actually die when they are killed; they do not disappear and reform, as do those brought by a summoning spell (see below). The duration of a calling spell is instantaneous, which means that the called creature can't be dispelled.

Spells that call powerful extraplanar creatures are most useful when the conjurer has a magical trap to hold the summoned creature. The simplest type of trap is a magic circle spell (magic circle against chaos, magic circle against evil, etc.). When focused inward, a magic circle spell binds a called creature for a maximum of 24 hours per caster level, provided that the character casts the spell that calls the creature within 1 round of casting the magic circle. However, if the circle laid down in the process of spellcasting is broken, the effect immediately ends. The trapped creature can do nothing that disturbs the circle, directly or indirectly, but other creatures can. If the called creature has spell resistance, it can test the trap once a day. If the character fails to overcome the spell resistance, the creature breaks free, destroying the circle. A creature capable of any form of dimensional travel can simply leave the circle through that means. The character can prevent the creature's extradimensional escape by casting a dimensional anchor spell on it, but the character must cast the spell before the creature acts. If successful, the anchor effect lasts as long as the magic circle does. The creature cannot reach across the magic circle, but its ranged attacks (ranged weapons, spells, magical abilities, etc.) can. The creature can attack any target it can reach with its ranged attacks except for the circle itself.

The character can use a special diagram to make the trap more secure. Drawing the diagram by hand takes 10 minutes and requires a Spellcraft check (DC 20). The DM makes this check secretly. If the check fails, the diagram is ineffective. The character can take 10 when drawing the diagram if the character is under no particular time pressure to complete the task. This also takes 10 full minutes. If time is no factor at all, and the character devotes 3 hours and 20 minutes to the task, the character can take 20. A successful diagram allows the character to cast a dimensional anchor spell on the trap during the round before casting any summoning spell. The anchor holds any called creatures in the diagram for 24 hours per caster level. A creature cannot use its spell resistance against a trap prepared with a diagram, and none of its abilities or attacks can cross the diagram. If the creature tries a Charisma check to break free of the trap, the DC increases by 5. The creature is immediately released if anything disturbs the diagram—even a straw laid across it. However, the creature cannot disturb the diagram itself either directly or indirectly, as noted above.

<small>Spells: </small>

Creation
The spell manipulates matter to create an object or creature in the place the spellcaster designates (subject to the limits noted above for conjurations). If the spell has a duration other than instantaneous, magic holds the creation together, and when the spell ends or is dispelled, the conjured creature or object vanishes without a trace. If the spell has an instantaneous duration, the created object or creature is merely assembled through magic. It lasts indefinitely and does not depend on magic for its existence.

<small>Spells: Acid Splash, Flame Arrow, Grease, Mage Armor, Prayer, Ray of Frost, Stinking Cloud, Web</small>

Healing
Certain divine conjurations heal creatures or even bring them back to life. These include cure spells, which good clerics can cast spontaneously.

<small>Spells: Cure Critical Wounds, Cure Light Wounds, Cure Minor Wounds, Cure Moderate Wounds, Cure Serious Wounds,

Summoning
The spell instantly brings a creature or object to a place the character designates. When the spell ends or is dispelled, a summoned creature is instantly sent back to where it came from, but a summoned object is not sent back unless the spell description specifically indicates this. A summoned creature also goes away if it is killed or dropped to 0 hit points. It is not really dead. It takes 24 hours for the creature to reform, during which time it can't be summoned again.

When the spell that summoned a creature ends and the creature disappears, all the spells it has cast end (if they haven't already). A summoned creature cannot use any innate summoning abilities it may have, and it refuses to cast any spells or use any spell-like abilities that would cost it XP.

Shrumping, Shrumper, etc is used alot in Avlis, so I figure its about time you all know where it came from. Or at least the first time I ever remember it.

Setting:
A long time ago (read April/May 2003) in a forest in Southern T'Nanshi

Vroshgrak was a halforc druid with no ability to hide/sneak etc, and he was bumbling around near the warfront on a naked run (corpses were scary then because it wasn't persistant after a crash!), possibly at Orcscourge and he was found by a patrol of M'Chekian Soldiers. Drake Pere and Roland are most likely, though the group could have varied in coposition. Realizing he was just about screwed, as he was outnumbered, and naked and unbuffed Vrosh dove for the nearest bush he could find hoping to hide.

They spotted Vrosh hiding naked in the bush, and tried to question him, when they asked what he was doing he said 'making pleasure' in hopes of confusing the M'Chekians long enough to run away. Rather than confusing them, they proceeded to mock and ridicule him.

So in his 8 int 8 cha way, Vrosh had tried to outsmart the M'Chekians but instead it came back to bite him in the ass by becoming the most popular derugatory slang about elves and other assorted Scamperers. And thus the story of the verb 'to shrump' is defined.
Wherever there is suffering, famine, or strife, the followers of Evrak are usually not far away. If anyone is responsible for the troubles in the world, Evrak proudly takes up the blame. His main purpose, as he and his followers see it, is to create strife through natural, supernatural, and any other means available. These actions can range from simple torture and intimidation, to the magical creation of famine and natural disasters. The larger the population, the better the opportunity to serve this purpose.

Naturally, this makes the followers of Evrak, as well as the deity himself, extremely unpopular in regular circles. To argue against this, some of Evrak's clergy will argue that their place in the world is as natural as any other, since the bad things and life that make us suffer also allow us to see the good and the beautiful. The argument goes on to portray Evrak as a simple bringer of karma, which springs from every day existence.

Though Evrak's clergy only has a few isolated temples in discreet places throughout Avlis, the clergy takes an active role in seeing sites of suffering and famine, often taking pilgrimages to these places to see how they can make things even worse off for the locals. To a point, this takes some organization, which the church of Evrak provides by cataloguing areas that are suffering and having troubles. These records have even been known to make reliable historical documents after the fact.

Evrak is the child of Maleki and Verossa, and like his parents, he has a penchant for destruction and a degree of chaos. However, Evrak's followers tend to me more discreet about where chaos is spread, and how it is spread, which implies some order to their existence. No one is quite sure of these rules, but they do tend to note how famine and suffering often strike areas which were recently prosperous. Corruption also seems to be a magnet to Evrak's followers, since they have a high belief in karmic tendencies. By its nature, corruption requires some order, and though it is not a mantle possessed by Evrak, it is a closely associated companion wherever his work is found.

Andrinor solely distributes and allocates the magic drawn from the Mortal Magic Vortex. Whenever a wizard, bard, or sorcerer casts a spell, they are drawing energy from the Mortal Magic Vortex according to his permission. The only exceptions to this rule are wizards, bards, or sorcerers who are of Immortal status and up. They have access to the God Magic Vortex, over which Andrinor has no control.

Andrinor is often disorganized and unpredictable in his methods, however people of all races and alignments worship him out of necessity. Many enjoy it, while others feel grudgingly at his mercy. Either way, they are careful, as they should be. Magic is a delicate art and needs to be respected. Andrinor supports this notion and he will take great steps to secure it.

Andrinor has clerics who perform devotions to him, but his church is very informal and not organized very heavily. Often his clerics are doubling as wizards or sorcerers, and seek to gain extra power from him by devoting themselves totally to his service. These individuals are granted cleric spells from Andrinor in the usual way, i.e. filtered through the God Magic Vortex.

Verossa is also the mother to the god Evrak, sired by Maleki.

A temple to Verossa is said to exist somewhere in the wilds of T'Nanshi.

Verossa is also the mother to the god Evrak, sired by Maleki.

For more information, contact Archmage, or the Great Magi Karrek Asen (DVNT), or any in the pitch black and red robes of the Order.

Note: Ebony requires all initiates to speak to members of all Orders to ensure that the initiate has found their home in the Trust.

The Avlis Crafting System (ACS) enables PCs to make items out of natural resources. It has several components:

Alchemy
In Avlis, Alchemy is the art of creating potions that emulate the effect of a spell. One gathers components needed, and mixes them to create the potion desired. There are many alchemists on Avlis, the publically best known ones being the alchemists and herbalists of the organisation The AKN. (Advancement of Knowledge and Nature)

Alchemy is done on an Alchemist's Table.

Armorcrafting
Armorcrafting entails the making of helmets and armor, from padded clothes to Mithral carapaces, and more. Armorcrafting is done on an Anvil.

AAAA, Avlis Arms and Armor Association.

Blacksmithing
Blacksmithing is prmarily about making ingots of suitable materials, but can be used for things not included in Armorcrafting or Weaponsmithing as well, such as arrowheads. Blacksmithing is done with a Forge and an Anvil.

AAAA, Avlis Arms and Armor Association.

Carpentry
Carpentry entails the making of bows, composite bows, crossbows, arrows, shields, instruments, and more. Carpentry involves gathering and chopping wood from trees to create these things as well. Carpentry is done with a Sawhorse.

ACE Avlis Carpentry Enterprises

Gemcutting
The polishing and cutting of gems to be used in Jewelcrafting. Gemcutting is done with a Jewelcrafting Table.

Herbalism
Herbalism is the creation of bandages, ointments and poultices. Many of the things created with Herbalism have a use in Alchemism as well. Herbalism is used with an Alchemist's Table.

The AKN

Jewelcrafting
Once the gems used have been polished, they can be used to craft trinkets, such as amulets and rings. Often, these things are imbued with the quality of some being, enchanting the wearer in some way. Jewelcrafting is done on a Jewelcrafting table.
It is a well known fact that Jewelcrafting is harder and more expensive to advance in than other crafts. This is intended, and is considered a Dead Horse

Mining
The excavation of minerals from the base rock, the minerals can then be smelted to ingots afterwards. You need a suitable pick to be able to mine.

Tailoring
Creating any sort of dress, outfit or armor made of cloth. Often, proficient tailors can make their creations magical by using the right materials. Tailoring is done with a Bolt of Cloth or a Loom.

Weaponsmithing
The creation of weapons by forming the proper materials to the form desired and attaching it to a handle. Weaponsmithing is done with an anvil.
