The former Voivode of Drotid, who led a war to conquer southern Negaria. It is rumoured that he was an ancient hero of the Shaahesk, who was imprisoned for centuries then released in mysterious circumstances during the M'Chek-T'Nanshi war. After uniting the rival Boyars of Shaah Sulehagh under his own leadership - a feat aided by rallying many of the Annihilators of Aarilax to his banner - he declared war on the nations beyond Drotid's borders. He was killed at the war's end.
Description
Dragon Disciples of Avlis have formed a close bond with a dragon, and thereby gained some of the dragon's essence. This manifests in the form of draconic abilities, powers, and changes in appearance. The nature of the connection between any given Disciple and their sponsor dragon can vary, with the Disciple being viewed as a dear friend, a powerful vassal, or trusted agent.

Requirements
Alignment: Your character's alignment must match the alignment of the dragon who is giving your character some of their essence.

Skills: Lore 8, Spellcraft 5

How To Unlock The Class: Message The Event DM Team
In order to unlock the class you will need to contact the team to start the in-character roleplay to find/meet/form a connection with a dragon NPC that matches your PC's alignment.

To contact the team send a private message to the Event DM team via the forums at https://www.avlis.org/.

You can also contact the team via Discord via the team-assistance channel: https://discord.gg/sh6SB8WkCv.

From there, your PC will come in contact with a dragon of the type that matches (discussed with the Event team) and about 3 or so in-game sessions will occur (potentially with tasks requested by the dragon but this is not definitive) before the unlock happens. These in-game sessions will revolve around your PC getting to know the dragon and connecting with them in some way and the dragon granting their essence to your PC (unlocking the class.)

Will I Work With A Specific Event DM For My Unlock?
A specific event DM will reach out to work with you on the in-game sessions for your unlock (you can certainly ask for an Event DM in particular if you'd like, or not.) The event DM team will keep track of unlocks that are pending and their status and will look to match an event DM with your time zone/play time that allows for things to progress smoothly.

If, for whatever reason, a DM is unable to complete your unlock then it will be communicated and another event DM will take over the unlock.

What Can I Expect For The Relationship With My PC's Dragon Ally Post Unlock?
The relationship between your PC and the dragon they ally with and become a Disciple for is somewhat analogous to the Warlock class in D&D. The relationship depends on your PC, the dragon, and their personalities and connection.

The exact nature of the relationship with the dragon patron varies depending on the dragon.

You or your dragon may wish to continue your connection, your PC may wish to do tasks for your dragon, or in general keep in contact.

It's not required to keep in contact, but it's possible if you as a player want to and ICly it's desired. The NPC is a contact that could be relevant to your PC in the future, could be pulled in for future plots, etc.

The connection with your dragon continues so long as you think it's fun to continue it, just like any NPC connection a PC has.
How To Unlock The Class - Message The Event DM Team

Galdos has its roots long ago, when Gorethar created his patron race, the dwarves. He set them onto the world as a single clan, The Gald, meaning "stalwart" in the ancient dwarven tongue. It was not long before this one clan spread throughout the mountains where they were created, and diversified slightly in culture and craft. By that time, they had become many clans, tracing their roots back to Gald. Knowing that their best hope of survival against the greater wide world was to have unity, it came time that the leaders of the clans met together to decide which would lead them all. Though they were all rightful decendents of the Gald, there were many branches with different qualities, and no one branch felt they had the right to unilaterally claim the Gald name for their own. So, the clans petitioned their god, Gorethar, to give them an answer. In response, Gorether set before them a series of tests. Though nearly all of his creations were kind-hearted and honorable, they were not equal in strength of character and heart. The tests, it is recorded, were devised by Gorethar to separate out the subjects from the rulers of the land: those who would be noble, and those who would be common. The exact nature of these tests was lost to history, but it is traditionally held that they were trials of courage and wisdom, and the ability to lead. It was also agreed by all the participating dwarven clans that the results of the trials would be honored forevermore, and that the winners would be Gorethar's messengers on Avlis.

Thus was the social structure of the newly forming nation determined. A hearty and charismatic dwarf named Burlock Firehammer rose above the other contestants, and his clan name was accordingly changed to Gald. He became the first king of the new united dwarven nation: Galdos. The other clans who scored well in the contest were given rewards by Gorethar, as well as jobs serving the governing Gald clan in many areas, which afforded them nobility among the population. The contest and its outcome were epic events that led to the birth of the new dwarven nation, which stretched from the northern tip of the continent, just below Tyedu, down to the elven nation of T'Nanshi.

The Gald family dynasty still rules Galdos to this day. The capital city of Galdos is Galdhaut, which means "Home of the Galds." The nation is built on principles of hard work and honor preached by Gorethar, and it functions as a bastion of his faith. A great many dwarves practicing a great many trades with fine precision populate the underground nation, and they live in relative peace when compared to the nations on the surface. Many wars have gripped Avlis, and few have touched Galdos. This is largely due to the fact that the country as a whole is like a fortress. It is difficult to get in. The dwarves control every inch of every tunnel. Only the deepest areas below Galdos are still occupied by underdark monstrosities. The dwarves have spent many centuries clearing the areas and populating them.

The nation itself is generally arranged into clans. The noble clans were given control over large portions of territory, and told to report back to the High King. Within these noble districts, the common clans live peacefully. Politics between clans does exist, and greed has been known to sour relations between them. However, civil war and overt fighting between the clans has never been known, except in the years after Fegall's ascension, when a large portion of the southern clans of Galdos began their transformation into gnomes. The reason for the transformation was due in large part to their worship of this new deity, and with it came large changes in outlook and attitude that were no longer compatible with the north. Luckily, in the end, King Redrick Gald III, who ruled during that era, decided to avert war by appointing his son Rupert Gald the King of the South. He awarded the land of the southern clans to King Rupert, and told them to depart peacefully. Rupert, who was married to a gnome, immediately dispersed the monarchy and set the country to rule by guilds. Thus Deglos was born from Galdos.

Today, the outlook of Galdos is still apparent. As a nation, they value their isolation and do not take kindly to visitors, unless the visitors are worshippers of Gorethar or some other goodly and honorable deity. Trade with other nations is not too common, though they have been known to trade with their cousins in Deglos from time to time. Galdosian dwarves look down on Deglos for its open and more cosmopolitan attitude, since Deglos is not nearly as isolationist. In their minds, the Galdosians wish to keep their country pure and free from evil invaders. To some individuals, that simply means any non-dwarf. To others, it simply means anyone not born in Galdos. The difference is mere semantics. The two groups agree in practice, and they like to keep it that way.
The a deadly, high-altitude swamp known as the Smotherlands is found on the border with Jechran. Known for its unpredictable weather, the swamp located at an altitude nearly two miles above sea level in the mountains of eastern Galdos. The Smotherlands comprises an area two miles wide and nearly nine miles long.

The Widowmakers

The mountains known in Common as the Widowmakers are some of the steepest, deadliest peaks on the Galdosian surface. Almost every mountain in the range rises to an impressive 30,000 feet above sea level.

Ghost's Kiss

This abandoned settlement is found in the wilds near the heart of Galdos. Although the town thrived, once, a series of natural disasters led it to abandonment and ruin. While the name of the town has long since passed from memory, the town cemetery is rumored to be haunted. As such, the area is now known as Ghost's Kiss.

Origin
The Amber dragons were created by the Greater God Mikon during the Great War.

Alignment
Amber Dragons are Lawful Evil.

Habitat
Tropical forest.

Information
Haughty, charismatic and ambitious, amber dragons are amongst the most powerful creatures on Avlis. Combining a quick wit and a golden tongue with their majestic and alluring gold-scaled bodies, these dragons not only have great power, but also possess the cunning and charisma necessary to utilize it to their fullest potential.

Amber dragons are taller and leaner than their metallic counterparts, with a beak-like snout, a smooth, unbroken head which spreads into a crest adorned with a pair of sharply swept back horns, bearing a striking resemblance to an elaborate crown. Twin frills that start from the back of their horns and flow into their large sail like wings completing this deceptively lithe figure, and the translucent gold scales along with opaque wings spray its surroundings with a bright auric light. Spreading a scent of exotic spices and fire, these dragons are able to grab and hold the attention of large crowds with little more than their physical presence. Starting as a dull, blood-red color as a hatchling, the amber’s scales gradually turn more translucent and golden as it ages, and gains the characteristic gold halo effect by the time it reaches young adulthood. Like all stone dragons, ambers maintain their eye shape through the course of their lifetime, coal black with golden pupils.

Yet for all their strength and grace in draconic form, it is perhaps in their ability to blend in as polymorphed creatures where ambers truly excel. Rather than the brutish tactics of pyrite dragons, ambers tend to use their ability to shift forms to become humanoid and legitimately become rulers of villages or cities near their forest lairs, slowly corrupting its citizenry and eliminating any potential rivals, eventually turning it into a vassal town with itself at the head.

Ambers see the world as a zero-sum game, and thus do not tolerate the presence of their kin for long, feeling that additional amber dragons in the world simply dilute the overall riches and power to be hoarded. Thus they tend to be extremely paranoid of other dragons, and will go to great lengths to prevent the knowledge of their lairs from spreading to other dragons and jealously covet information which may allow them to find and kill their rival dragonkin.
Lycanthropyhttp://wiki.avlis.org/w/index.php?title=Dragon,_Marble&diff=53955Dragon, Marble2023-07-30T17:12:56Z
Lycanthropy:

Alignment
Marble dragons are always Lawful Neutral or True Neutral.

Habitat
Volcanic areas in cold regions..

Information
Living in beautiful caverns of marble, these dragons are stoic and elegant like a marble statue. They prize art and knowledge above all other things and often spend their lives collecting paintings, statues, and books for their hoards rather than traditional coin and gems. Their lairs are more attuned to a museum rather than a cave of treasures, and each piece is set carefully on display for anyone lucky enough to find one of their very rare lairs. But thieves beware, they are also masters of traps. Any sticky fingers are likely to lose them if not more if they attempt to steal from a Marble Dragon. The dragons themselves trend on the smaller, sleeker, more elegant side, appearing almost like marble statues themselves. In fact, they are said to be able to stand so still they are often mistaken for the centerpiece of their own museums. Marble dragons are the offspring of granite and silver dragons.

Marble dragons are tacticians when it comes to combat, often having their fight planned out six steps ahead of any would be assailant. If in their lair, they have hallways of death traps, kill rooms, and panic rooms to hide in. If confronted head to head, they'll use their petrifying breath weapon and other similar hold and petrification spells to get away.
Lycanthropyhttp://wiki.avlis.org/w/index.php?title=Dragon,_Slate&diff=53951Dragon, Slate2023-07-30T17:06:48Z
Lycanthropy: Created page, added IC information.

Origin
Slate dragons are descended from the pairing of a Coal and a Copper dragon, during the Great War.

Alignment
Slate dragons are always Chaotic Neutral.

Habitat
Subterranean regions.

Information
Slate dragons are an unusual breed of dragon descended from a single union between a Coal and a Copper dragon during the Great War. Every living slate dragon upon Avlis is somehow descended from this corrupted pairing, and their traits are strong enough to be unchanged despite the fact that they often interbreed with Coal dragons. Slate dragons are erratic and their subterranean nature is often seen as a blessing, as they will go quickly from friendly to hostile, benevolent to violent, though all Slate dragons seem to share the inability to remain a consistent or reliable companion for long.

Slates tend to be bulkier than Coal dragons, with the thicker build and limbs present from their Copper dragon heritage. They do however share the Coal dragon’s optimal build for close combat and have many of the same advantages. Their coloration begins as a shade of black with a metallic sheen as hatchlings and gradually fades into a dull grey or even red-grey coloration as they age. Like all stone dragons they maintain their pupils throughout their lives and their eyes are a blood red with green pupils.
Lycanthropyhttp://wiki.avlis.org/w/index.php?title=Dragon,_Sandstone&diff=53950Dragon, Sandstone2023-07-30T17:02:46Z
Lycanthropy: Created page, added IC information.

Sandstone dragons are hybrids of Bronze and Limestone dragons.

Alignment
Sandstone dragons are always Lawful Neutral or Lawful Good.

Habitat
Riverbeds.

Information
Sandstone dragons are the result of the odd pairing of a Bronze and Limestone dragon who on occasion have paired in more desolate and isolated locations where the norms of dragon society have been tossed aside. They tend to be aloof as a result of the conflicting nature of their parentage, often being very tidy and orderly in arranging their lairs and their own affairs, but also distant from matters of concern in their environments. Thus they are viewed as an odd contradiction, conscientious yet disinterested, and some go as far as calling them lazy.

Sandstone dragons resemble slightly smaller versions of Bronze dragons, generally slimmer and with less pronounced facial features. Their scales tend to resemble their Limestone parents’ and are flexible with a coloration that ranges from yellow to red with large splotches of grey. They have the same eye coloration as Limestone dragons and some of the lighter shaded Sandstone dragons are often mistaken for their pure-blooded parents.

Sandstone dragons are relatively common despite their mixed heritage and their disinterest in the wider world tends to draw them to locations shared by other sandstone dragons, which make them capable of breeding and sustaining their numbers without outside influence, unlike the other hybrid dragons such as Gravel and Slate dragons.
Lycanthropyhttp://wiki.avlis.org/w/index.php?title=Dragon,_Olivine&diff=53949Dragon, Olivine2023-07-30T16:59:25Z
Lycanthropy: Created page, added IC information.

Lycanthropyhttp://wiki.avlis.org/w/index.php?title=Dragon,_Hematite&diff=53947Dragon, Hematite2023-07-30T16:47:18Z
Lycanthropy: Created page, added IC information.

Habitat
Iron-rich mountains and iron mines.

Information
Cross breed of a bronze dragon and a coal stone dragon, the Hematite dragon differs primarily in its habitat of deep iron rich caves. Hematite dragons tend to be simpler than some of their glittery cousins, but what they lack in shine they more than make up for in power. Hematite dragons are hard working and kind, often helping lost cave explorers find their way out. They are natural burrowers and can move through earth almost like it was water. They are extremely shy and do not like to be seen. They are difficult to trust but if you ever earn it, you'll have a friend for life. When they are young their scales are dark with red oxidizing like unprocessed ore and as they age they tend to become shinier like highly polished steel. They have powerful thick limbs and bodies with wide claws perfect for digging. Their crests are built to displace earth and aid in burrowing.

Most hematite dragons avoid combat if possible unless defending an innocent or their lair or are otherwise cornered. They'll use dive tactics, moving into the ground and springing out to strike before burrowing again. They are magical and sometimes druidic and will often unleash magic needed to pacify a situation rather than kill things outright.
Lycanthropyhttp://wiki.avlis.org/w/index.php?title=Dragon,_Gravel&diff=53946Dragon, Gravel2023-07-30T16:44:52Z
Lycanthropy: Created page, added IC information.

Habitat
Volcanic hills, deserts.

Information
Born of unusual unions between brass and granite dragons, gravel dragons tend to be less inclined towards extremes of behavior that their parents exhibit and instead usually attempt to reconcile the conflicts arising from their background, taking solace in viewing the world through a lens which stresses the importance of balance in their environments. Where other dragons, even metallic ones tend to look for and collect vast amounts of gold and items for their hoards, gravel dragons tend to take only what they need, doing their best to keep their foot print upon their surrounding environment low.

Gravel dragons resemble a stouter version of a brass dragon, roughly similar in shape but with a wider set of shoulders, slightly greater height and less pronounced head plates, as well as longer and thicker chin horns that come together at the ends. Their scales are similar in coloration to granite dragons with varying shades of dark to light grey, though all younger gravel dragons tend to have a metallic shimmer to these scales giving them the appearance of quasi-silver dragons on occasion. This metallic glimmer fades with age, while the scales themselves gain a light sprinkling of red. Gravel dragons have similar eyes to granite dragons though rather than black eyes with grey-red pupils, they have grey eyes with dark-grey pupils that flash with a metallic glimmer.
Lycanthropyhttp://wiki.avlis.org/w/index.php?title=Dragon,_Bauxite&diff=53945Dragon, Bauxite2023-07-30T16:42:28Z
Lycanthropy:

The offspring of an hematite and Pyrite dragon, the Bauxite dragon is almost like the cruel version of an hematite dragon. They often trick creatures deeper into old mines and dark places to either consume them or enslave them. Their bodies tend to be large and brutish and most end up stuck in deep dark caverns and never see the light of day. Unlike their distant hematite cousins, they are terrible burrowers and must rely on their trickery and slaves to get the things they need rather than traverse deep dark tunnels themselves. Older Bauxite dragons are often very lazy.

Bauxite dragons love combat in the rare circumstances that they get it, but they also do not like a fair fight. If conditions are not optimal, they will often attempt to negotiate more favorable conditions often through trickery and deceit. They have a few natural talents to let them charm their prey into submission or servitude, and when all else fails, they can regurgitate molten metal (they often consume large amounts of iron as part of their diet). They are often natural sorcerers but some in their laziness become wizards instead as their long lazy life often gives them plenty of opportunity to read.
Lycanthropyhttp://wiki.avlis.org/w/index.php?title=Dragon,_Azurite&diff=53944Dragon, Azurite2023-07-30T16:40:46Z
Lycanthropy:

Information
Riders of the storm, these hybrid of Limestone and Copper dragons feel most at home in large bodies of water. Unlike most dragons, they are extremely nomadic until they reach old age, where they tend to find a deep lake, harbor, or coral reef to settle in. While nomadic, they are storm chasers, often following massive storm cells all over the world. When it dissipates, they use their natural weather sense to find the next one. This means they tend to stay in oceanic areas rather than on land, usually only coming to land in the eye of a hurricane or similar storm cell. They are often druids and priests, predominantly following Verossa.

Like the storms they chase, they are ferocious when angered. Areas of over fishing or other damage to natural water may find themselves in the middle of a massive storm cell with unnatural lightning strikes. These dragons will call storms to them if there isn't one present and use both spells and their breath to rain natural hell upon their foes. They rarely land and prefer to remain in the sky during their assaults. If forced onto land, they will continue to rain down hell from the sky above until slain or victory is achieved.
Lycanthropyhttp://wiki.avlis.org/w/index.php?title=Dragon,_Bauxite&diff=53943Dragon, Bauxite2023-07-30T16:40:22Z
Lycanthropy: Created page, added IC information.

Habitat
Temperate, subtropical, and subterranean regions.

Information
Often referred to as “fool’s gold” dragons, pyrite dragons are the antithesis of gold dragons: crude, reckless, cruel and self-centered, they live to terrorize and deceive creatures that they perceive to be their inferiors. A common tactic of adult pyrite dragons is to fool a small village into believing that they are a gold dragon, being offered gold and gems for protection, only to turn around and burn the village to the ground. They lair in temperate locations, digging out their lairs with a haphazard array of pits and chambers, and they themselves rarely spend time in their lairs, instead they are constantly out prowling for their favorite item: gold. Pyrite dragons have an obsession with gold, to the extent that they will go to any lengths to obtain more. Often they embed this gold into their scales to add luster to their blandly golden scales.

As their name suggests, pyrite dragons tend to resemble gold dragons, though they are significantly smaller, their wings less graceful and their frills tend to be much shorter. The key difference between them and gold dragons lies in their faces; where gold dragons have long, flowing whiskers, pyrite dragons have none, in addition their eyes, rather than pools of molten gold are usually coal black with a sprinkling of yellow. Their scales range from dark yellow with golden specks as hatchlings, to the dull, golden color of adulthood, which allows them to pose as gold dragons to the casual observer.
Lycanthropyhttp://wiki.avlis.org/w/index.php?title=Dragon,_Coal&diff=53940Dragon, Coal2023-07-30T16:29:19Z
Lycanthropy: Created page, added IC infromation,

Habitat
Subterranean regions.

Information
The weakest of the stone dragon races, coal dragons resemble monitor lizards, with coal black scales, thin tapered head lacking any horns, and a long, whip-like tail. A pair of ragged, bat-like wings juts from just behind its fore-arms, and the creature gives a general impression of coiling about the cavern it lives in, climbing onto the ceiling using its powerful limbs and blending into the surrounding walls. They have solid black eyes that glow with a faint blue tinge, eerily lighting whatever room they happen to be in.

Seclusive and anti-social coal dragons tend to avoid areas which other dragons inhabit, generally preferring to keep to the subterranean areas where they prey upon various travelers and miners, ever eager to increase their hoards. They tend to avoid sunlight and will only go out at night if forced by their circumstances. Solitary by nature, it is very rare to find more than one coal dragon in any series of caverns, particularly given the limited food sources in such foreboding environments.
Lycanthropyhttp://wiki.avlis.org/w/index.php?title=Dragon,_Amber&diff=53939Dragon, Amber2023-07-30T16:27:16Z
Lycanthropy: Created page, added IC information.

Lycanthropyhttp://wiki.avlis.org/w/index.php?title=Dragon,_Granite&diff=53938Dragon, Granite2023-07-30T16:22:16Z
Lycanthropy: Added IC information.

Habitat
Volcanic regions.

Information
Despite their propensity to create lairs in areas steeped with volcanic activity and fire, granite dragons are cold, calculating wyrms focused upon extending their domain and their rule upon those weaker than themselves. They combine a ruthless single-mindedness with a cunning appreciation of their own abilities; seamlessly combining their great strength, intelligence and magical ability to achieve what they desire most: subjugation of lesser beings.

Granite dragons are more heavily built than their other stone dragon counterparts, with a massive set of frontal claws and heavy bulk concentrated on their upper bodies, a relatively short neck and a squared head with a single jutting horn. While young hatchling granites tend to have dark grey scales, the tone of these scales gradually grows lighter as the dragon ages until they reach a light grey color; while the eldest of granite dragons have dark black splotches spread throughout their scales. They have a pair of flowing wings that they tend to wrap around their shoulders, giving them the appearance of wearing a long, flowing cape. Granite dragons have black eyes with sharp grey pupils that glow faintly with an orange tinge.

Almost always living in solitary volcanic lairs, granites tend to prefer seclusion to outright adulation, and are haphazard in their choice of prowling grounds. They do however take a keen interest in showing their strength over weaker creatures, and it is common to see several lesser creatures, up to and including lesser stone dragons such as coal dragons performing menial tasks near their lairs. Unfortunately for these poor souls, granite dragons rarely have any qualms about breaking whatever contracts they had, and often consume these creatures as food when they stop serving their purposes.
Lycanthropyhttp://wiki.avlis.org/w/index.php?title=Dragon,_Limestone&diff=53937Dragon, Limestone2023-07-30T16:17:59Z
Lycanthropy: Undo revision 53936 by Lycanthropy (talk)

Limestone dragons are greedy, oafish creatures that combine an insatiable drive to obtain whatever they desire with a lack of foresight, making them both an extreme nuisance and themselves a target for much avarice and distrust throughout Avlis. Though they are of average intelligence, they tend to be rather dull-witted for a dragon, and as a consequence often stumble into conflicts and situations because of their greed. Though they make their lairs in secluded, often flooded terrain to keep out unwarranted visitors, their own grasping need to take whatever they please will gradually turn their surroundings against them, often resulting in either the death of the dragon or the dragons being chased away from their location.
Limestone dragons are thin, serpent-like creatures with long, webbed claws and a pair of wings that fold back to remove water resistance. They have long-tapered heads with a series of small whiskers that grow longer with age, giving them a slight cat-fish like appearance, though the most charitable observer would say they appear more like a cross between a gator and a gold dragon.

All magery stemming from the Orcish race and culture is steeped in historical controversy. Before the Great War, this was not so. The practice of magic flourished among the orcs and the Gold Order of the old Fold of Nine prospered beyond the realms of the orcs to include many members from other races as well. The Orcish Destruction changed all of this when it killed nearly all existing orc mages and a goodly chunk of the whole Orcish race. Retaliation from all surviving orcs against members of their own kind who dared to practice the arcane arts would drag on for two thousand years. Gradually, the stance of the orcs against the practice of magic softened due to the wishes of Valok, the god of the orcs, although this proved controversial.

Die-hard supporters of the old ways refused to change. These orcs who refused to concede that arcane magic was allowable still vehemently persecuted orc mages all throughout Negaria. Glory’s Crusaders were the Gold Order of The Sand’s response to this persecution. As a military wing of the Gold Order, the Glory’s Crusaders’ mission was to protect orc mages belonging to The Trust and to act as a rapid response team to rescue those that were assaulted by Valok’s more fundamentalist sects.

Members of this group were known to find clever ways of combining the use of magic with traditional weapons and armor. Some did this by learning the ways of combat and arcane magic separately, and others melded the practice into one. Both types of practitioners were welcome into the organization if they held the same interpretation and ideals of Valok’s philosophy. They were also required to adhere to the strict hierarchy within the Glory’s Crusaders, with ultimate authority resting with the Archmage of the Gold Order.

Glory's Crusaders were disbanded when the hunts of Orcish mages were finally ended.
Lycanthropyhttp://wiki.avlis.org/w/index.php?title=Adepts_of_The_Grey_Mist&diff=53933Adepts of The Grey Mist2023-07-27T00:31:04Z
Lycanthropy: Past tense and added association with House of Mist and Shadow.

It was difficult to confirm the existence of this elite and secretive subset of the Ashen Order of The Stars, but most agree that if it did roam the forests and mountains of Negaria, its members did not number greatly. Making matters of pinning down the membership worse was the reported ability for mages of this group to teleport from the scene by turning into a grey mist - the capability from which their name derived. All this secretive traversing of the continent and darting in and out of far-off locations was supposedly for observing powerful entities, particularly those that are spellcasters, to ensure that they did not overstep their bounds to cause great unrest or imbalance.

Rumors surrounding this group described one of its purposes as a form of immigration control for extraplanar creatures. The Adepts of The Grey Mist especially tracked mages from off world, though it is also said to have done the same for demons, devils, and other beings that can innately use magic. For the most part, the tracking never progressed beyond simple observation from far away, which could include scrying and other divinations. In rare cases when powerful off world entities began showing signs of wildly destructive behaviors, such as attempts to harm Avlissian deities, disrupt the planar fabric, or eliminate entire races or regions from existence, the organization stepped in to intervene.

Being able to stay on top of such powerful visitors required cutting-edge knowledge of divination techniques. Most agree that the Adepts of The Grey Mist, if they were in fact carrying out their rumored mission, included some of the best diviners on the planet. It was probable that one wing of the group spent most of its time researching knowledge on the craft, or adventuring to the farthest corners of the world to find it. Meanwhile, a second wing was employed in application, i.e. using the knowledge to track visitors. A smaller third wing was thought to act as the strong arm when things got rough and an interloper required expulsion.

Entering this organization was likely something only rarely achieved. One version of the reputed method says that the Archmage of the Ashen Order submitted candidates to the Adepts of The Grey Mist which were then reviewed and approved or rejected. If this was the case, it was likely that all members of the group were former mages of the Ashen Order. However, another version of the method implied that the Adepts of The Grey Mist appeared to people whom they had observed for quite some time and invited them to take a special test at a certain time and location. Some have reported that the location was usually in a pocket plane that could only be accessed via a portal. Multiple candidates showed up to take this test accordingly, and few passed, but those who did were inducted into the organization as full members and began assuming new duties. Usually these people were never seen again by their close relatives and associates. If this was the case, it is quite possible that mages from many different orders and alignments may belonged to the group.

Within the Ivory Order existed an elite group of white necromancers dedicated to healing and relief in places ranging from local communities to war-ravaged disaster zones. Throughout Negaria, medical knowledge in most villages and indeed in most cities is abysmally lacking. Though there are herbalists and apothecaries who specialize in the healing arts, most of them are not able to achieve more than basic relief for small ailments and treat minor wounds. Healing through magical means is often available at the temples of goodly deities, but the widespread treatment of the sick, depending on the god’s philosophy, is not too common in most areas. Plus, healing via clerical means is usually too expensive for most normal peasants to afford. The Rays of The Silver Sun saw their purpose as transferring the knowledge of healing arts (both magical and mundane) into application to produce real benefits for the sick and needy. The aim of the organization was to take the drawbacks of non-magical treatment and poorly-treated patients of the temples and give them effective care while treating them well.

The Rays of The Silver Sun accomplished their mission with three main efforts. The organization acted as a “first response” team to care for wounded civilians and soldiers in battle zones. Units from the order often rushed straight into pitched battles to pull out any fallen combatants. For this function, certain national armies and guilds noticed their bravery and hired them to act as a medical corps. As a second effort, members travelled alone or in pairs through a circuit of communities providing barber-surgeon and herbalist services. Peasants and nobles alike lined up to see them wherever they pitched their tents and signal poles. In larger communities, some members of the organization settled down from adventuring and began to teach the non-magical aspects of their craft to the locals. Successful operations of this sort bloomed into medical academies, the largest of which is the Confederate Academy of Healing Arts in the city of Andarr, which teaches both the magical and non-magical medicine.

The founding of the Rays of The Silver Sun predated even the oldest of the original mage orders and even some of the minor gods to a time right after the Great War. A Romini mage named Ajanan Domari made his living roaming the continent during the times of great suffering after the Orcish Destruction. He used his skills as a mage and knowledge of white necromancy to increase the results of his healing. Soon he developed quite a following in the western parts of Negaria where he did most of his traveling. For many years he passed on his arts and worked to alleviate the suffering caused after the war, and even beyond his normal life span he continued as an anti-lich.

After nearly 300 years (circa 350 A.O.D) of working to heal the sick, Ajanan Domari finally settled down in a modest keep provided by his followers and students. Unfortunately for him, that keep was located in modern day Dubunat, which at the time was being conquered by the Bandit King, The’ton. A series of defensive battles ultimately created too much attrition to withstand, and Ajanan was driven out or killed. To this day, it is unknown whether he used his own life-giving portal to the Positive Energy Plane to escape, or allowed it to be destroyed, taking him with it. His followers always hoped for the former, meaning he could return someday.

With the death of the founder, the scattered followers united and named their order the Rays of The Silver Sun, to express their desire to extend Ajanan Domari’s work over the continent like the rays of the sun touch the land. It was another two centuries before the Silver Order of the old Fold of Nine approached them to offer material support if they joined their ranks. The remaining members of the Rays of The Silver Sun accepted gladly, and went on to outlive even the Silver Order.

After the events of the Vortex of Chaos, in which the newly minted god of magic, Andrinor, played an elaborate prank on the mages of the world to dissolve the old structure and put his own in place, the Rays of The Silver Sun stood by and continued their work uninterrupted. Through all the events of history, there were always wounded and less fortunate souls to attend. Once the Ivory Order formed, its leaders approached the organization and made the same offer as the old Silver Order did centuries before, and the Rays of The Silver Sun became a suborder once again.

With the dissolution of the Trust and the Ivory Order, the Rays of the Silver Sun have dissolved their own organization. They are now pledged to the House of the Argent Sun, within which they continue their mission.
Lycanthropyhttp://wiki.avlis.org/w/index.php?title=Wardens_of_The_Emerald_Grove&diff=53931Wardens of The Emerald Grove2023-07-27T00:18:08Z
Lycanthropy: Removed present-day mentions of Green Order and replaced with House Wildfire association.

The mysterious and rarely-witnessed Wardens of The Emerald Grove are barely more than shadows roaming the forests of T’Nanshi. Reports of their whereabouts surface quickly and usually involve a heroic rescue or last-minute aide in a battle gone wrong. However, any attempt to trace the members’ quick exit from the scene usually fails leaving doubt even in the minds of those that tell the story. Some say the Wardens were once part of the Green Order of The Forest. Others say they were only loosely associated with that mage order. They are currently considered members of House Wildfire.

One elaborate tale about the Wardens of The Emerald Grove portrays them as an ancient order not originally associated with The Trust or its predecessor, the old Fold of Nine. The legend tells of a pocket plane created by early elves in T’Nanshi as a place of escape in case a being like the Negerai Prime ever returned to Avlis. The pocket plane, resembling a grove environment, could act as a temporary refuge for the elves or any stray ancient spirits they found in the event of a disaster. According to sages familiar with the legend, the Emerald Grove, as the pocket plane is called, has several exits to other planes of existence, such as the plane of Faerie, the Happy Hunting Grounds, and later an outlet to the Celestial Dragonlands provided by His Most Splendid Majesty who rules a small pantheon to the south of Negaria.

If this is true, the Wardens of The Emerald Grove are in charge of safeguarding an ancient secret and a valuable means of escape. In the wrong hands, such a place could also serve as a means of travel to other coveted planes for maleficent purposes.

Accounts of the Wardens of The Emerald Grove tell of wizardry mixed with archery or powerful magics of protection and hiding. It seems such skills would be necessary for getting into position and escaping without detection. Moreover, since few stories of the hidden group have ever mentioned direct hand-to-hand struggles with living members, it serves to reason that ranged methods such as archery and magics that augment it would be a likely tool favored by the Wardens.

The chaotic portrayal of the group’s actions also suggests that there is likely little order or protocol observed among the Wardens. It is thought that senior members who are more skillful with melding magic and bow are responsible for the group’s actions and the mentoring of newer recruits. Whatever figure leads the Wardens most likely also has secret association with House Wildfire and the Academy of Mortal Magic. Beyond that, it is anyone’s guess how the organization’s internal workings proceed.

The other orders of magic seem to have the same sense of confounding frustration when it comes to pinning down the Wardens’ actions. For some evil mages, finding out the location of the rumored pocket plane known as the Emerald Grove would be a boon. Controlling such a crossroads would bring a lot of power with it. Good-hearted mages would of course oppose such actions, and for the same reasons: to keep such a disaster from ruining the affairs of the world, and to prevent evil organizations from spreading into the connected planes from the grove.
Lycanthropyhttp://wiki.avlis.org/w/index.php?title=The_Year_of_the_Red_Star&diff=53929The Year of the Red Star2023-07-22T22:49:38Z
Lycanthropy: Revised to include Ashavari's role in the Great Making.

The Great Making
Long ago, a creature known as the Blue Star crashed into Avlis. It lay at rest in the peninsula of Hel’byssia, and its tale is told elsewhere. However, when the Star fell, it caused great strife and chaos. A very far-sighted and inventive dwarf, Fegall – already a hero of the Great War, but yet to ascend to godhood – devised a plan, initially to deal with the Blue Star. He was joined in this work by his collaborator Ashavari, an Avariel fatespinner of great power. But Fegall and Ashavari also foresaw that the Star was not alone. It had a twin, or partner, the Red Star. At some point in the future, Fegall predicted, the Red Star would come seeking its counterpart. So, he worked on a plan to defeat these world-ending threats. This was the origin of the Great Making.

It was never finished in Fegall’s time, and he moved on to greater things as the god of craftsmen and gnomes.

The Great Making was a complex device, spread across the world. It had several components: four towers, and four great mirrors. The mirrors were associated with elements. The wind mirror was in Deglos. The ice mirror was in Tyedu. The sun mirror was in Toran Shaarda. The Earth mirror was in Drotid.

There were also four inverted towers. The towers contained timewells that stored and used time as a resource.

Another tower, the Skytower, contained an orrery (a model of the stars) that tracked the position of the Red Star.

The final piece of the Great Making was its control room, the Tick Tock Tower. If completed, the Great Making was to produce a shield that would draw the Red Star’s own hateful power into the system of mirrors, and direct it back at the creature. All of this would be guided by the orrery to strike the Star with precision.

The components of the Great Making were tended and staffed by kobold-shaped constructs, each named Jeremy, or collectively known as the Jeremies.

The components of the Great Making had been built long ago and by the present time they had fallen into disrepair. Until, that is, the crisis of the Red Star loomed. Some two years before the crisis became acute, the mage Archibald Thel and his allies discovered Ashavari's workshop, later discovered to be the Sky Tower, a component of the Great Making. They learned of the components of the Great Making and its state of disrepair. Worse, they learned that the Great Making itself was never completed. With great effort, Archibald and his allies were able to finish what Fegall and Ashavari had started.

One by one, the heroes found and repaired the mirrors. Archibald and his wife, Thienna Skybreaker, set to work repairing the Orrery itself.

When the first signs of the Red Star’s approach became known, the heroes learned something remarkable about Ashavari herself. They discovered that although she had had lived long in the past, the avariel mage had in fact been born in the present day. Ashavari’s control of time magic was such that she had journeyed back and forth through time on several occasions in Avlis’ history. Archibald and Thienna, aided by adventurers, found the young Ashavari and took her into their care, knowing that her great power meant she would have a remarkable part to play in the events that followed.

As the Red Star crisis continued to develop, one final piece of the Great Making remained for Archibald to find – the legendary Tick Tock Tower, control center of the Great Making. Without discovering and entering the tower, it is doubtful if the Making could have been made to work at all.

At length, Thel and other heroes unlocked the path to the Tower. The Tick Tock Tower was discovered to reside on the back of a great oceangoing beast, a World Turtle of immense size. Once within the Tower, Archibald set to repairing, refining, and working out how the Tower could be used in conjunction with the other components of the Great Making to fulfil the plan of reflecting the Star’s hatred back at it, and thus saving the world.

The Power of Faith
What of the Gods and their devotees? It was decided that the Great Making alone would not be sufficient to defeat the Red Star. Several heroes, devoted to their faiths, took it upon themselves to organize a great response of their own. They did this both to defend the people of the world and to meet the Star’s wrath with the power of the Gods.

Thienna Skybreaker, Elder Healer of Cha'reth, worked to devise and organize the efforts of the faithful. A plan developed in which representatives of the faithful would channel divine energy into giant ritual emeralds, capable of storing this power. These ritual emeralds had first been used as part of a great warding to enable heroes to confront and defeat a shard of the Red Star known as the Erratic at the town of Quithranos.

These devotees empowered the crystals using techniques unique to their faith. Few of those sworn to the wickedest Gods collaborated, but many others did what they could to marshal their strength in opposition to the Star. And this strength built into a great well of power.

But how could such power be used? A mighty receptacle was needed to store it, and a focus to direct it against the Red Star. Skybreaker volunteered a powerful artefact in her possession to serve as the store for the Deific power – the vessel with which Andrinor held the Vortex of Chaos Magic in years long passed. Once in the possession of Andrinor’s immortal, Damar Ogdem, the vessel had been granted to Thienna.

For the focus, Olisa, Sword Saint of Gorethar, offered a solution. The blade Heavendor was a weapon of legendary status, forged in the image of Gorethar's light aeons ago. It had appeared and disappeared many times throughout history, always aiding the forces of purest good and order in their endeavours, opposing its foul but inseparable opposite, the vile Tanar’sheev of Maleki. Heavendor and Tanar'sheev were no mere weapons, for they existed both in the material and the outer planes. It was determined that Heavendor possessed the strength to direct the gathered divine power against the Star.

As well as attack, the devotees saw to the defense of places dear to them. Thorfinn of Dru'El, bearer of Wildfire, worked with keepers of the world’s Lifestones to generate vast shields to protect the world against the hatred unleashed by the Star.

The preparations were successful. The power of a million prayers was transferred successfully to Heavendor. Olisa unleashed this power against the Star, smiting it in two. Heavendor’s twin, Tanar’sheev, was likewise utilized in this attack – whether willing or not, the weapons’ opposite essences were ultimately inseparable.

The Monolith
The Mages of the Trust, seeing the threat of the Red Star, launched their own plan of action. The first step was the formation of a group of mages who would dedicate their time and energies to the creation of a countermeasure. This grouping was called the Vanguard Task Force, or VTF.

At the heart of the Vanguard Task Force, driving its efforts along, was the Violet mage Dameon Nepirtas. Dameon saw the VTF as necessary to cut through any discussion and delay, allowing the member mages to concentrate on creating a potent weapon to defeat the Red Star. After a little discussion, he was confirmed as the group’s Director.

The Vanguard Task Force worked to create a weapon, known as the Monolith. In essence, the Monolith had a design and function similar to an artificed wand – on a vast scale. Like any wand, the Monolith was designed to hold and cast spells. The spells in question were researched and developed by groups of mages – and they were spells of terrible power. Dameon had worked upon harnessing the power of what he called the Void. Other mages contributed a destructive force they called Boom Juice. These spells were empowered by a device called a Blood Capacitor.

The research and construction of the components occurred within what might seem to an outsider an impossibly short span of time. In truth, it was constructed within a temporal anomaly, allowing the mages working upon it sufficient time to theorize, research, and create its components.

The Monolith was developed alongside the work on the Great Making. Dameon and his collaborators envisioned the Monolith as a backup weapon – a failsafe in case the Great Making failed to destroy the Red Star. Some collaboration occurred between the mages Dameon and Archibald to ensure that the activation of the Monolith, if needed, would not interfere with the work of the Great Making.

When the Monolith was successfully unleashed, some observers noticed strange phenomena. There are rumours that the Monolith possessed undocumented components, known only to the Director. What these were, and what effect they have had on the world, is not known.

A Song of Hope and Defiance
Hatred, fear, panic, and other negative emotions resonated from the Red Star. To combat this and to uplift the souls of Avlis’ people, several notable performers put their own plans into motion. Frannie Mouze, Nawen Beign, and the Academy of Bardic Arts gave a series of performances they called the Concert of Hope, to spread hope through song and merriment in that dark hour.

Frannie had another realization – the crystalline nature of the Star and its shards offered an avenue to counter the Star’s energies with those of the bards’ own design. Working with other performers and Psions, the group procured an emerald golem’s heart. This giant crystal heart was etched by Glorandrea in such a way that it could store ritual energy.

The creation of the necessary energies was a joint production by the psions of the Luminous Order and the bards of the Bardic Academy. The psions, Alexis, Lily, and Sarith, joined with the performers Glora, Jones, Kurn, Nawen and Frannie. The performers worked to produce a resonant vibration contrary to the Star’s own – suffused with hope, joy, and love. The psions used their mastery of the psionic arts to weave the power of these emotions, and positive energy, into the ritually prepared emerald heart.

This strength was added to the efforts against the Star, as were the voices of several of these masters of the Bardic Arts, when the final confrontation came.

The Death of Avlis
As preparations were made and plans hatched, the Star moved inexorably towards Avlis. There were many battles fought against shards of the great destroyer, which are recounted elsewhere. Over days and months, the Star hoved into view, appearing faint at first, then growing until it hung in the sky above Avlis, red and angry, a crimson devourer of unfathomable size. Some among the people of Avlis turned traitor and devoted themselves to the Star, forming a cult and carving the sign of a four-pointed star into their own foreheads. Those people who ventured out of doors in the final days were able to do so only with mind-protecting magic to ward themselves.

The plans went into motion. Wards were placed on several locations of import across the lands, to provide a haven for people and to safeguard vital assets. Among these havens were Castle Lumiere in Ferrell, the Champion’s Keep at the centre of Elysia, and Drakehall Keep in M'Chek.

But the heroes of Avlis did not devise these wards to hide from the Star. As the thing made its final approach, they struck at it, with all their gathered might and cunning.

And they failed.

The light of Heavendor and its dark counterpart Tanar’Sheev were aimed at the Star, joined by the assembled power of millions of hopeful prayers. Thorfinn’s Wildfire, too, joined this assault, as did the songs of the performers. The coordinated attack carved the Red Star into two pieces. But this was a problem. The Great Making could not be focused, and the power of the Star was divided – not merely into half, but into thousands of shards, as one of the bisected pieces shattered into fragments that plunged themselves towards Avlis.

Dameon activated the Monolith. In a surge of unearthly power, half of the Star was consumed by oblivion – by the void itself. The Star, though, was not conquered. Dameon fed more power into the Monolith, causing it to lash out at the fragments that hurtled towards Avlis’ surface. The Monolith destroyed an army of Celestials, brought to the battle by Gorethar’s herald, Llissa.

The Star was not defeated. The world began to end.

Remaking
At the last, the heroes escaped through a portal. They found themselves in one last refuge, a pocket dimension known as Sorrow's End. This hidden place had been prepared as a ritual site in the event that the Star prevailed, and the world was lost. The time, it seemed, had come. Archibald, Dameon, and the keeper of the dimensional graveyard, Ronan, conferred with three sisters, the daughters of Andrinor: Andria, Valeria, and Ashavari.

The sisters realized something. A gem in Archibald’s possession, enchanted by all three sisters and given to him by Valeria, was the key to defeating the Star. The gem was a thing that could only have been created now, in the present. And yet, it was the missing piece, the final, crucial component of the Great Making, that had not been inserted into its construction from the beginning. Without it, the great device did not work. It was only at this moment, at the end of all things, that the realization was made. But what use was this? To most, nothing at all. Even to great heroes, an impossible hope. But to the combined power of those gathered here and the triune scions of magic – it was salvation for the world.

The sisters enacted their own plan. Andria and the heroes supplied magical power. Valeria used this power to open a portal to the past. And Ashavari journeyed back in time, to place the gem within the Great Making, and then to leave it somewhere it could be found, to close the loop.

Time was relooped. Events unraveled in parallel. The Sisters’ plan worked. All proceeded as it had done before. The power of prayer and the divine artefacts lashed out. Songs of hope lifted to the heavens. The Monolith fired. But this time, the Great Making also aligned. It fired perfectly, shattering the remaining half of the Star. The Celestial army prevented the splinters and shards from destroying the world.

Coda
Many who now live thanks to the efforts of the heroes nevertheless remember both sets of events. Although the death of the world was undone, many still remember living through the timeline in which all was lost and the world brought to ruin. To those with clear memories, the end of the world both did and did not happen. Such are the curiosities of time magic.
Lycanthropyhttp://wiki.avlis.org/w/index.php?title=Timeline&diff=53644Timeline2023-07-05T00:46:06Z
Lycanthropy: /* The Year of the Red Star - 2271 O.D */

The Epochs of History
The history of Avlis can be divided into 8 major epics as given below.

* O.D. - Year of the Great Orcish Destruction
* AoP - Synonymous. Indicates the beginning of the Age of Peace (Age of Immortals)

The Age of Spirits – 2000 P.O.D. – 1085 P.O.D.
Avlis is populated by nature spirits, who roam the world and create flora and fauna, living in peace. No mortal races are present, and the Supreme is worshipped in peace by the innocent nature spirits that he created.

The Age of the Gods – 1080 P.O.D. – 600 P.O.D.
The Great Nine and the Negerai-Prime are in a perpetual state of conflict, with their divine armies waging war across all of Negaria.

Time of the Dawning – 500 P.O.D. – 100 P.O.D.
The early history of mortal races on Avlis from after the Nine have left the world and repopulated it with their own races, to the opening stages of the Great War. Many of the first nations are formed in this era, as well as the creation of the Underdark demonlords. The Demonspawn War takes place between 300 P.O.D. to 200 P.O.D., while the First Fairy War takes place between 200 P.O.D. to 100 P.O.D.

The Great War – 100 P.O.D. – Y.O.D.
The Great War remains the greatest conflict fought between mortal races on Avlis, involving the great ancient orc empire of Dobrekan and the great alliance between T'Nanshi, Galdos and the fey races. Waging for nearly a century, the war eventually ends with the catastrophic Orcish Destruction which kills 1/5th of the world’s population and reduces much of the world into anarchy for several decades.
The Age of Peace – Y.O.D. – 1000 O.D.
Also known as the Age of Immortals, the immediate post war era saw the rise of new powers in Avlis, with the formation of the First Kurathene Empire and formation of the M'Chekian Union. T’Nanshi and Galdos gradually retreat into their home territories to lick their wounds from the war, while the orcs struggle to survive on the western coast of Negaria. Many of the lesser gods are conceived in this period, including the twins Dre'Ana and Dra'Nar, also Senath, Hurine and Berryn. This era was also dominated by the presence of two great immortal rulers: Joral Kuras of the Second Kurathene Empire and the great Bandit King The'ton of Dubunat. Most of the politics of this era involved the two immortal rulers, and both rulers made repeated attempts to hem in the other, leading to the creation of colonial city-states like the Seven Cities. However, despite the tension between the two immortals, the era was known for its relative prosperity and stability.

The Age of Darkness – 1000 O.D. – 1825 O.D.
Little is known of this period. Legend has it that the all powerful counterpart to the Eternal Spark, The Black Dagger, was found and a god was destroyed with it. This is rumored to have touched off a devastating war between the gods and their followers.

The Age of Strife – 1825 O.D. – 2250 O.D.
The era immediately after the death of Joral Kuras was one filled with strife and conflict. Some notable conflicts of this era include the centuries long M’Chek-T’Nanshi War, the three Tri-Fief Wars, the Drotid-T’Nanshi Conflict, and the Second Fairy War. Beneath the earth this period also recorded the Second and Third Demonspawn Wars, the first against M’Chek and the second against both Deglos and Galdos. The Age of Strife coincided with the rise of the Seven Cities Confederation as the greatest center of culture on Negaria, a position it would occupy for the next five hundred years. The end of the age is marked by the end of the Drotid War in 2237. This era saw the ascension to godhood of Angadar, Andrinor, and Cha'reth.

The Age of Rebirth – 2250 O.D. – Present
The Age of Rebirth has been a period of rebuilding from the ravages of the wars that had struck during the Age of Strife. It is a time of change and revival, with the rise of the Fourth Kurathene Empire, the alliance between the nations of M’Chek and Elysia, and the first great contact with the continent of Khanjar Kuro. Contact has also been established with three undersea races: the tritons, sahuagin, and sea elves. Change has occurred among the gods as well, with the rebirth of Dagath, the reemergence of Keros, the depowering of Aryeh Gidol and the ascension of Zhitaril, Ti'si'faan and Naren.

The Year of the Red Star - 2271 O.D
In the year 2271, a great crisis unfolded. In the The Year of the Red Star, a destroyer of worlds, the Red Star, assaulted Avlis. It was defeated through the efforts and sacrifice of numerous heroes, with far-reaching consequences for the world.
2050 A.O.D. forward.

Since the Avlis servers are live games where the meaning of time and the flow of time have real impact on character actions and events, it is important to realize that there are two "times" to think about when it comes to the game: Real-life time, and In-game time.

In-game time passes more quickly than Real-life time. The rate at which In-game time passes on the Avlis servers has changed over the years a couple times.

1 June 2002 - The Avlis servers went live. The In-game year was approximately 2050 A.O.D (though likely more accurately it was 2066).

In-game time passed at a rate of 2 Real-life minutes = 1 Avlis In-game hour. Thus, 1 Real-life Year = 30 Avlis In-game Years.

13 June 2005 - The rate of time passage was slowed to 4 Real-life minutes = 1 Avlis In-game hour. Thus, 1 Real-life Year = 15 Avlis In-game Years. The server year was 2169 A.O.D. as of September 2006.

9 July 2010 - The rate of time passage was further slowed to 20 Real-life minutes = 1 Avlis In-game hour. Thus, 1 Real-life Year = 3 Avlis in-game Years. As of 03 June 2020, the year was 2263 A.O.D.

In the year 2272, a great crisis unfolded. In the The Year of the Red Star, a destroyer of worlds, the Red Star, assaulted Avlis. It was defeated through the efforts and sacrifice of numerous heroes, with far-reaching consequences for the world.

Ongoing Player Actions
Note: If you are using this article to calculate In Game time, please be aware that NWN Avlis has 28 days per month, 336 days per year.

But Fegall also foresaw that the Star was not alone.

The components of the Great Making had been built long ago, and by the present time, they had fallen into disrepair. Worse, the Great Making itself was never completed. Until, that is, the crisis of the Red Star became acute, and the mage Archibald Thel and his allies were able to finish what Fegall had started.

One by one, the heroes found and repaired the mirrors. Archibald and his wife, Thienna Skybreaker, set to work repairing the Orrery itself.

When the first signs of the Red Star’s approach became known, the heroes learned of another factor in the Great Making – the legendary chronomancer, Ashavari. Ashavari was an avariel of great magical power who was believed to have lived thousands of years before the present day. What the heroes eventually learned was that Ashavari’s control of time magic was such that she had journeyed back and forth through time on several occasions in Avlis’ history. She was born, in fact, in the present day. Archibald and Thienna found the young Ashavari and took her into their care, not yet knowing exactly what part she would play.

Lycanthropyhttp://wiki.avlis.org/w/index.php?title=Template:AvlisCities&diff=53546Template:AvlisCities2023-07-01T00:52:22Z
Lycanthropy: Removed Batumawberk as this is a non-canonical city.

Good and evil are all relative. There really is no one undisputable "Good" with a capital "G". What's good for one is evil for another. Many of these so-called "good gods" preach that you must give aid to others so that they can go onward. The thought here is that giving aid is always a good thing. They are wrong. You know that bum on the street that everyone has encountered somewhere in their lives? The bum that asks you for money all the time? Giving him money is a "good" thing right? After all, you are helping the poor soul. Wrong. How do you know what that man will do with the money? What if he uses it for "evil" purposes, like hiring an assassin? What if he amasses enough money from begging to buy him an entire fiefdom, which he then uses to make war on the very people who donated the money? Who's to say he won't do that?

Valok is the father-god of Orcs. They follow his mindset.... that it's ok to get what you want, but don't make people hate you in the process. Having friends can be very helpful for getting what you want later. Now, if someone screws you over, by all means, take care of him or her. But not in public! Ideally, we can all get along with everyone else if only they just wouldn't get in our way. We don't want to destroy them. We just want to win as much as we can.

The followers of gods that are dubbed "good" or "neutral" all have one major problem. They do not give enough time to the development of the self. But what does this have to do with enlightenment, and how does one achieve it?

Enlightenment is within. If doing something for someone else will not help YOU, then you have no business doing it. Only self-discipline and devotion can help YOU. Focusing on things outside of yourself is a waste of time, because you are not responsible for anyone else but you. "Self maintenance is a monumental task." the holy saying goes. You have ENOUGH things to do with improving your own spiritual predicaments. What do you get by doing things for the spiritual predicaments of others? Absolutely nothing with the possible exception of maybe a "good" feeling.

The one who has disciplined their mind and calmed their inner senses will know Valok's Glory and Will. Glory is a better term to describe a "good" feeling that is directed inward. Valok hails glory. We should all strive for glory for it is Valok's way of condoning our actions and telling us that we are making improvements within ourselves.

So how should others be treated? Smile. If others are expecting a sense of "good", then give that to them. It is not wrong to give someone something if it benefits you in the end. It is ESPECIALLY not wrong to give someone something when it is an empty thing and you have lost nothing from giving it.

If there are people who do not approve of your self-improvement quest, then you should have understanding towards them. However, do not let them walk all over you. Get around them. Intrigue was the tool Valok gave us to help ourselves when others will not allow it. If you cannot go through something, go around it. Compose yourself and be disciplined. Know that Valok approves of what you do and it is not becoming of one of his followers to be obtuse. An obtuse mind is not a disciplined one.

Word has recently spread that Valok and Hurine had married and produced a daughter, Ethraeli. In 2273 O.D. she conspired with Stephanus and later Andria, along with many mortal agents in a scheme that later became known as The Humbling of Angadar.

Ethraeli grew up in the shadow of her father's great ambitions, and resented the lesser status she perceived her mother Hurine to have. As she grew into adulthood, she learned of the great injustices surrounding the persecution of Orcish mages in the past, of their official blessing by Valok, of the determination of the church to hunt them down anyway, and Valok's ultimate inaction to correct the church in any way. Though Valok later put down this dissention officially, a great deal of damage had already been done to Brekonese society and Orcish culture writ large in the years between. Ethraeli saw all these things and believed her father corrupt, incompetent, and weak, and a poor husband to her mother. She set out to take his place and right his wrongs, and she decided to do this by a form of redress, by striking at the killer of Valok's lover Tianna, Angadar.

Ethraeli's plan was successful. Valok acknowledged that his daughter had shown great aptitude, and accepted that she was more than worthy of taking his place among the Nine Greater Gods of Avlis. Ethraeli now rules in her father's stead.

Valok has temples in Mikona, Crullath, and Verloghokbol; Brekon is the center of his worship on Avlis.

Hurine is the patron goddess of merchants and business people. Often, those who deal in business matters will have a small statue of her somewhere in their shop or on their person when traveling. Though the majority of her worshippers are laymen who deal in some sort of mercantile trade, Hurine does have clerics and temples, though they are few.

Hurine's temples can be lavish, though they are often small and unassuming. Normally, they act as small centers where business folk can come to ask for success and financial rescue. The clerics of Hurine are often seen as great financial advisors and shrewd dealers in all sorts of business, and many consult them for advice on these matters.

Clerics of Hurine are easily recognized by their light colored robes with dark brown or golden trim. They are not quite as numerous as other clerics from the various churches, but it is generally easy to find at least one or two in any city. Larger cities tend to have greater numbers of them. In the southern part of Avlis, they are not as common as they are in the Seven Cities, and parts of the Kurathene Empire, though they can still be found.

Word has spread recently that Hurine and Valok have married and produced a daughter, Ethraeli. As part of Ethraeli's ascension to the role of Lord Valok, Hurine was elevated to an Intermediate goddess.

Kuras, Visimontium, Medec and Soreign are home to temples, and Deglos, Elysia, Ferrell, Servator and Le'Or T'Nanshi have shrines to Hurine.
Lycanthropyhttp://wiki.avlis.org/w/index.php?title=The_Humbling_of_Angadar&diff=52869The Humbling of Angadar2023-06-05T13:40:40Z
Lycanthropy: Corrected my overuse of the word "blades". Professionally scribed notices are distributed around the lands.

People of the world,

You learn now of the ascension of Ethraeli de Aurum, the Glorious Lady, daughter and heir of Valok. You learn also of the humbling of Angadar and the theft of his power by those who schemed against the arch-schemer. I now reveal some of how this was achieved.

I learned of Ethraeli's conspiracy some months ago. A secret meeting was called in the basement of the Temple of Valok. There, the Lady Herself, and her Drangonari accomplice Viv, laid out in blunt terms the scope of her ambitions. She aimed at nothing less than the usurpation of her father, Valok. And to do this, she would steal from Angadar. Bobil, the attendant, would be annihilated. Angadar's power would be seized. We learned that Stephanus, the other attendant of Angadar, had already turned on his erstwhile master, and would assist Ethraeli in her scheme. I surmised that Viv represented this silent partner in the work.

I will confess I had no notion of what to expect when I descended the stairs to that annex - some scheme, yes. But the enormity of the plan was thrilling, intoxicating almost. Faced with a Will of such strength, how could I not join the endeavour?

Ethraeli's design had two parts. To give herself a chance against Valok, she sought to reduce his own status by throwing the Church of Valok's heartland in Brekon into turmoil. She told us of her frustration at the Church, its sclerotic nature, its irresolvable contradiction between the holy purpose of the Dominators and the mandate granted to the Gold Order of the Sand. And to enhance her own power and ascend - a series of thefts, from the thief-god Angadar.

And so the plan went into action. A party of mortals assembled, and divided into two. Half of us went to Brekon, there to undermine the Church. I know few details of this adventure, and I call on those who were part to reveal the hand they played and the things that were done. The other half of us ranged across the world.

We sought things long-hidden, of great importance to the god Angadar. To find them, we ventured first to a secret library, once presided over by a great dragon - a diviner of sorts. There, a ritual artifact in the form of a spear was claimed. This spear was then used at our second location, an island deserted for centuries. Taking ship from Mikona, we were ambushed and assailed by a band of Shaahesk pirates before reaching our destination. I need not go into too much detail what became of the Shaahesk - know who writes this and use your imagination. At the island, we saw an ancient but finely detailed map of Negaria, chiseled into the hard stone of a chamber floor. A statue of the dragon loomed over the map. One of our party, Than'ru, recalled an old fable about a dragonslayer who struck such a drake with a spear just so - and in replicating this act with the relic spear we had found, we awakened the map.

We were pointed to three locations: far beneath Le'Or T'Nanshi; the capital of Dubunat, Cronthetus; the wilds of Jechran. In turn, we visited these locations, seeking our prizes.

Delving far beneath Le'Or, we used the rebreather devices of Lilliana Be'letane to find our way through a sunken and flooded cavern. Past this peril we found ourselves in an abandoned and disused laboratory. We were assailed by the effluent of failed and abandoned magical experiments as we explored. We found many relics of old labors - although the detailed notes had rotted or been stolen, we felt we had found the place where plagues and curses were concocted by Angadar and his servants. At the highest point of this library, we found what we were after. Long ago, the mortal Angadar was attacked by an Avariel assassin. The assassination attempt was unsuccessful, and Angadar did not take the attempt well. The blades, with Angadar's blood still encrusted upon them, attacked us, empowered by a hatred that persisted beyond death. Our party quelled the blades and stole them. They were placed into Ethraeli's hands upon our turn to the surface.

In the smog-choked streets of Cronthetus, we were told to seek a hidden and mobile entrance to Angadar's secret repository of knowledge. Stephanus' catspaw, privy presumably to Angadar's secrets, informed us where we could find it on that occasion. The library was filled with books and knowledge of all kinds - and golem guardians of murderously fiendish design. We fought our way through these guardians, braving their blades and evading their alarms. At length, we discovered some mortal servants, too, guardians of the library and of the great treasure concealed within. This, we found, was the Archive of Angadar, his master tome of Arcane Knowledge. The pages appeared blank to mortal eyes, but the power of the artefact was plain. As with the blades, this relic attacked us, flinging spells and sending many of our party into the afterlife. Even a tome of such puissance could not stop a party such as we. The thing was subdued and seized. Our fallen were collected and dusted off. This, too, was placed into Ethraeli's hands.

Our final sojourn took us into the gloomy depths of Jechran. We were guided by a stalwart comrade of Moonlit Paw's by the name of Warstoat. The place we sought had unusual guardians - corrupted and twisted Ents, and mindbroken Lammassu attempted to bar our progress through winding canyons. These creatures were cast down. Our prize lay at the end of this labyrinth of canyons and perilous pathways - within the ruins of an ancient manor house. But we did not need to delve within this ruin to find what we sought. No. The guardian of the treasure had taken it for its lair in ages long past. A great dragon swooped down and attacked us. Following a desperate battle, this beast was exterminated. I sawed our prize, the Tiara of Tianna, from the creature's claw, where it had been worn as one wears a ring or another bauble upon one's finger. After our return, we passed this final relic into Ethraeli's hands.

Our work was still not quite done. The things we had found and stolen needed to be wielded in a great ritual against Angadar, if his power was to be stolen. We headed to the City of Visimontium, where a third and final conspirator was added to the godly band of schemers. This was the Goddess, Andria, newly risen to her missing father's power and station. Andria's assistance was requested in the construction of a great ritual to summon, bind, and disempower Bobil. Through Bobil's death, we would strike at Angadar. Andria had her misgivings, but she was presented with a prize to be claimed from her involvement in the matter - Angadar's mantle of Arcane Knowledge. Whatever the true mind of the Goddess, she accepted this bargain and offered her expertise in designing and accomplishing the ritual.

Items were gathered. Plans were made. Candles were manufactured. We gathered our strength and summoned our allies.

How can the ritual and the battles among and against the gods be described? I feel my words are a poor substitute for witnessing and participating. But indulge my attempt. First, in a great display of arcane might, the god Bobil was summoned to our ritual circle. Appearing as a titanic minotaur, the god angrily engaged us in battle, summoning Drangonari warriors to his aid. With spell and sword, we killed these, some of Grantir's sturdiest guardians. And the god himself was slammed into the dust, there to die.

We witnessed as Ethraeli's nails turned to great talons; as she tore her way through stricken godflesh, coring Bobil like a piece of fruit; as her jaw distended to swallow and consume Bobil's divine essence.

Then - a blare of warning. A voice , rich with purest hatred and wrath, echoing in our heads. A false vision of Great Maleki appeared to assail us, with fire and ice giants in tow. Those of us strong in Will and firm in our convictions did not flinch for a second. We engaged in battle with these forces most terrible. This was not Maleki Himself - it was a deceitful glamour, an image of the Slaughterlord, intended to cow and unsettle us. At this point it became clear that to take Angadar's mantles, we would have to confront and overcome the very power they granted. In destroying this vision of Maleki and his servants, we confronted and overcame Angadar's Deceit.

The false avatar was laid low. Ethraeli herself landed the killing blow, plunging the assassin's daggers deep into the neck of the vision. And so did she claim Deceit, hungrily consuming this power from the weakened Angadar.

Then - a flash of white. We found ourselves in a vision of Mikona ablaze, its buildings crumbled to ruin. Angadar's voice informed us that this future awaited us if we did not turn back. A fool's jest. The course was set - when one makes such threats, what is there to say but "just try it?" We were attacked by shambling zombies, supposedly the dead of Mikon's city. But it was all just a trick. Angadar's avatar and chosen Drangonari warriors assaulted us. Many fell, for the power of the Gods is beyond mortal grasp, and these most favoured servants fought desperately to preserve their patron's power.

They did not succeed. This avatar, too, was overpowered and cast down. With a touch of the Tiara of Tianna to the forehead of Angadar's avatar, the god of Finesse, Stephanus, worked through Viv his servant to seize the mantle of Trickery.

Black. A final confrontation, back at our ritual site. Angadar in all his pomp as the master of Arcane Knowledge now came for us. At his side, a most favoured servant - Tuul'angadar, purportedly the first traitor to forsake his Avariel birth and embrace Angadar. A spiritual and political leader of Angadar's people. And then - as with so many of these elite Drangonari - a headless corpse.

We had come so far, fought so much. We did not fail at this last hurdle. Even all Angadar's cunning and might could not prevent his fall. In the dust, the avatar was greeted by Andria. Using the Archive, she claimed her prize, the mantle of Arcane Knowledge. And she chose to grant the stricken Angadar mercy.

Compared to these great deeds and challenges, the ascent of Ethraeli was almost tranquil. I know not the minds of these gods, but Valok's avatar seemed pleased at the things Ethraeli had done. He admitted, or allowed himself to be seen admitting, that he had been a poor steward of those things under his power. And he seemed delighted at his daughter's accomplishments. She had proved her ambition, seized power of her own, swept clean rot from her father's Church. She had outwitted, overpowered, and defeated Valok's old rival Angadar and his servants. In short, Valok seemed utterly untroubled as he pronounced that Ethraeli could take his place and stand in his stead as one of the Nine. He granted her a boon - the elevation of Ethraeli's mother, Hurine. And also, he presented a warning: that if ever the goddess slips or falters, he will be there, to take back what is his.

So ends this tale, at least those parts of it known to me. Others can add their own thoughts and recollections as they wish.
Unlike most other gods that controled some aspect of life or philosophy, Bobil was an attendant. In life, the minotaur Bobil was a faithful companion to Angadar, who became the god of Arcane Knowledge, Deceit and Trickery. Shortly after Angadar ascended to godhood, he deified Bobil and charged him with the eternal task of guarding his realm from attack.

For this reason, Bobil did not have too many worshippers, and the few that he did have were mostly serving in the city of Grantir, where Angadar's stronghold in the physical realm is located. As with Bobil himself, the worshippers of this deity all swore themselves to the service of the city and the drangonari elves who inhabit it. In fact, most of these worshippers were drangonari elves themselves, however there were a good number of minotaurs who had come in from other realms to serve this deity. The majority of these folk were stationed at temples to Angadar within Grantir, though a few were sent out on missions with the drangonari under special circumstances.

Bobil had no temples of his own, because most of his holy duties took place at temples of Angadar in small shrines located off to the side.

As of 2273 O.D., Bobil is considered dead, killed by a combination of mortal and divine agents known as "The Humbling of Angadar".
Lycanthropyhttp://wiki.avlis.org/w/index.php?title=Deific_Chart&diff=52867Deific Chart2023-06-05T13:37:11Z
Lycanthropy:
