Like other giant crabs, they are omnivorous and opportunistic, feeding upon whatever they can get their claws onto, whether plant and fungal matter, dead carrion or live prey.  They eat cave fishes, other crabs, the odd adventurer or hunter and various varieties of Deglosian fungi, moss and such which is often found growing in their habitat.  Villages or other centers of Deglosian life are often in somewhat close proximity, and one would assume the crabs are hunted for their meat by the local dwarves and gnomes, who consider most species of giant crab a delicacy.  Only fair, eh?  The crabs hunt them right back if they come into their environment.

Lives in or near water of some depth, usually in caves of some size which have deep pools or running water in them.  Found in several places, in Southeastern and Southwestern Deglos.

Template Text

  • Copy the text from the block below.
  • In your browser's address bar, type http://wiki.avlis.org/<Creature_Name> (Example: http://wiki.avlis.org/Celestial_Bison). This will bring you to a page on the wiki that doesn't exist yet, so at the top click "create" to create a page for your creature.
  • Paste the text into the page and fill out per the instructions below.
  • Hit save. You're done.

The page will auto-categorize based upon your entries so don't add categories to the bottom. Because of the autocategorization, if the instructions specify that spelling is important ... it really is. ;-)

Instructions for Use

In all cases, if you don't have any information for one of the entries, leave it blank. The template will treat it properly.

  • Name_of_Creature: This should be pretty obvious, and should never be blank, or why would you be creating a page? Some examples would be Avlissian Jaguar, Dire Tiger or Flying Purple People Eater.
  • CTS_Code: The CTS Code number for the animal. This should also never be blank.
  • Companion_Submission_Status This is used to clarify the research status, both for you and for the team/subcontractor members who will review your submission and potentially allow the animal to be trainable. Write "researching" as you are preparing the page. When you are ready to submit for review, replace with "submitted" (note: the "" are not needed). You should see a category listing at the bottom of the page the appropriate status. Please do not alter this value if it is being reviewed or has been accepted. If the animal has been reviewed and determined not to be compatible, it will be marked rejected -- look at the particular animal's wiki discussion page for additional instructions or details. Spelling counts!
  • Type_of_Creature: Use one of the main category types in the Fauna Lore page. Valid entries are Animal, Beast, Magical Beast or Vermin. If you do not know, please leave it blank. Spelling counts!
  • Subtype_of_Creature: Use one of the sub-category types in the Fauna Lore page. Examples: Feline or Arachnid. If the creature has no subtype or you do not know, please leave it blank.
  • Author: This should always be filled in with your character name. As a courtesy, link it to your board profile in case the Team needs to PM you. See the example below for the correct syntax to link to the profile.
  • Image: Completely optional. If you have a screenie, put it up. The template will limit the picture to a maximum of 400 pixels wide, so no reason to upload something huge.
  • Most_Compatible_Fylgia: The most compatible fylgia for this creature from the list on the Fylgia page. Note: You can only pick one as the 'best' match. You may explain in the notes below how and why the creature may share traits with multiple fylgia, but for the 'most compatible' type, you can only pick one. Spelling counts!
  • Most_Compatible_Notes: Any special notes on why this particular fylgia is best.
  • Introduction: Your introduction to the companion.
  • Feeding_Habits: Obvious.
  • Disposition_Social_Habits: Disposition and social habits.
  • Habitat: Describe the type of environments this creature might be found in. Include the server and name of the zone the creature was found in, but only the name of the area. Do not include FOIG info like how to travel there. For example, "In the Beetle Cave in Elysia" is appropriate but "In the Beetle Cave ((directions)) from Elf Gate" is not. If the creature was summoned or DM spawned that can be noted here or in one of the other sections wherever you feel it fits in to your report most naturally.
  • Other_Notes: Any other notes that you feel compelled to include. If the creature you are submitting has color variances each appearance will have a different CTS code. If you wish you may collect all these CTS codes and add the additional ones here without writing up entirely new submissions. Example: "This submission was originally written for a black cow, but cows can also be brown ((CTS code of brown cow)) or black and white marbled ((CTS code of black and white))."

Example

This example is from the page Celestial Bison. Notice that you don't have to fit your entry onto just one line. You can use multiple lines and include much of the wiki formatting for each entry if you wish. See the Introduction entry below.

|Type_of_Creature= Animal
|Subtype_of_Creature= Bovine
|Author= [[Cairn_Mosslel]], ranger of [[Guild:ANRA|ANRA]]

|Most_Compatible_Fylgia= Dire Boar
|Most_Compatible_Notes= Dire boar is most suitable due to its strength and determination.
|Introduction= The Celestial Bison is a docile creature when observed calmly grazing from a distance. When worked
to a frenzy, few creatures (or inanimate objects for that matter) can hamper its momentum. The bison is a cow-ish
creature: brown thick hair with a large elongated head and horns. The front half of the bison is massive in
stature and girth. Physically, it is vaguely reminiscent of the minotaur. It is unknown if the bison has natural
origins on Avlis, but if it did, I suppose one might look for it in the grasslands of nations such as Kurathene,
Toran Sharda, Dubanat, and Brekon . The bison studied by this author is one that was summoned from another plane
(Celestial). It is quite trainable and receptive to a druid or ranger befriending it.

Physically, the bison's outstanding characteristics are its strength and endurance. Offensive momentum is the
animals best fighting tactic, lowering its huge head, large horns and thick neck and plowing through its foe.
It travels well, able to trot along for long distances without need of food and water.
|Feeding_Habits= From observation, the bison is a herbivore grazer. Grasses (in copious amounts) are its favored food.
|Disposition_Social_Habits= The bison appears to be quite social, and will work with its trainer. The author suspects
it would travel in herds, if there were a number of them. Its mating habits and other habits are relatively unknown.
|Habitat= Grassy plains.
