View source for M'Chek-Brekon War

In late AOD 2263 Marabout Mukhar Wafaa, son of High Cleric Mukhar Zhakhir the ruler of [[Brekon]], visited the Church of [[Valok]] in [[Mikona]] to give a sermon.  He was assassinated during the sermon, seemingly by orc magi.  Brekon retaliated by attacking Mikona and M'Chek responded by declaring war against Brekon.

Brekon attempted to annex M'Chek as the beginning of the formation of a "Brekonese empire."  They sent an armada of 130 war galleons and frigates which blockaded M'Chek's shores, preventing all sea trade.  The M'Chekian Navy, still depleted after the war with [[Drotid]], numbered only fifty vessels and was aided by adventurers and privateers who helped break the blockade.  Brekon also sent soldiers, dominators and psions as well as [[Mudin'al'azurd]], the Cobalt Dragon of Valok, to attack M'Chekian forts and other military targets.

Fearing that the Mikona Church of Valok was aiding Brekon by spying on the M'Chekian government, all Valokians were removed from government and military positions.  The government decided to expand the powers of the executive branch and the position of prime minister was changed to president.  Meanwhile, in Brekon High Cleric Mukhar Zhakhir died of natural causes and several bishops vied to replace him.

Eventually it came to light that the war had been orchestrated by two [[Evrak]]ian cults: the [[Bonds of Evrak]] and the [[Disciples_of_the_White_Rod|Disciples of the White Rod]].  [[T'Nanshi]] brokered a ceasefire between the two nations and all three countries formed a coalition with adventurers which defeated the Disciples.  Brekon appointed Sayyid Khaketi as their new High Cleric and after the war ended M'Chek and Brekon signed a peace treaty and formalized relations in early AOD 2264.  M'Chek restored all Valokians to their positions but in light of the war and its cause the M'Chekian government decided to further expand the emergency powers of its executive branch and the office of president was replaced by the office of chancellor, held by [[NPCs:Marcus_Deth|Lord Marcus Deth]].
