Magic on Avlis dates back further than the Great Nine themselves. Legend holds that the nature spirits who inhabited Avlis before the time of the Gods were able to use magics of various kinds.

The source where they derived their magic is said to be the same source that wizards and sorcerers use to this day.

Through the ages, wizards and sorcerers have developed spells through diligent research. Clerics have also participated in such research, though not as often. Consequently, there are many varieties of spells and enchanted items on Avlis, some of which are very old, and very powerful.

However, these items tend to be uncommon, After the Great War, the amount of magical objects and users decreased on Avlis, due to the extermination of all orcish mages. This was an accidental self annihilation which nearly spread to magic users of all races.

Thus, today, magic is less common, but accepted in many places except in Brekon where it is still illegal. In Brekon, mages are hunted down with abandon.
