Creature Name: Weaver, Weaver Mother
Observations by: Brandt Barkley
Creature Type: Vermin ((This was not learned for the Weaver since the smaller animal was already trainable. Weaver Mother's code is 422 (probably has a different code for the mother)))
Creature Subtype: Arachnid
CTS trainable: Not yet (submitted, but not yet reviewed).
Introduction
See Weaver Spiders for more information.
Feeding Habits
They appear to eat anything that enters their territory, cocooning the prey in webbing to suck out digestible fluids, presumably including other giant spiders as prey.
Disposition and Social Habits
They have not been observed near any other species of giant spider, oddly enough, even Phase Spiders.
Habitat
Caves, tunnels and ruins. Observed in Deglos (Big Bugs! underground area in Southeast Deglos near Bazgamph)
Fylgia
Most compatible: Giant Spider
- Although it does exhibit pack mentality, it is after all a giant spider, and appears to possibly be a species of Phase Spider, as they exhibit the same phasing behavior as phase spiders in combat, surrounding prey as a group to attack by phasing next to it. At the current time, the smaller Weavers do not exhibit the same range of learnable tricks on command, as do Phase Spiders. The Weavers do currently show the same trainable skills of ferocity and web-shooting, as most other forms of giant spider.
Other notes
Weavers have a shiny gray, metallic-looking carapace in dim light, in full daylight they appear brownish though. The tough carapace reduces some physical damage as well as soaks up some of each incoming attack. They make well-considered physical attacks, interspersed with ranged touch and bolt attacks as needed. They are capable of knocking down prey that is not incapacitated by their web attacks. They seem to be able to see through invisibility and sanctuary spells with no trouble whatsoever.
Weaver Mothers are HUGE, as big as a small house, and have some limited spell abilities to boot over and above those of the lesser Weavers. In particular, they spew acidic venom in great clouds around prey, (though they don't seem to be affected by their own acid clouds) and attempt to separate a group of prey by Banishing some of them away temporarily. Their size often precludes them from physically escaping from the area they grew up in. They wait for their food to come to them and attack it fearlessly while their brood joins in the attack. I have observed the Mothers exhibit the same phasing ability as their lesser spawn. The difficulty in taming one of the Mothers should not be underestimated, it is easily as difficult to tame and train as the hardest creatures known. The Weavers though are certainly simpler.
