Research

Creature Name: Osquip

Observations by: Kassaerth Ssalaresh

Creature Type: Animal ((1336))

Creature Subtype: Rodent

CTS trainable: Yes (compatible with CTS).

Introduction

The osquip appears to be a large rodent, although Kassaerth is uncertain if such creatures are natural or perhaps magically created. The osquip's six, and sometimes even eight or ten, legs are particularly unusual for rodents. Besides the extra legs, the osquip resembles an exceedingly large, hairless rat. Fully grown, the creature is similar in size to a small dog, or perhaps a badger. The osquip's head appears too large for its body, and its protruding teeth are exceptionally sharp. The teeth of an osquip appear to be prized by certain hunters or traders, perhaps for sale as weapons or spell components.

Feeding Habits

The osquip typically feed on smaller rodents or animals, such as mice, squirrels, or rabbits.

Disposition and Social Habits

Like many rodents, osquips live in large groups as a pack. Kassaerth has discovered as many as eight adults together, although Kassaerth believes there would be more in the tunnel systems the creature calls home. The osquip will not normally hunt creatures larger than itself, although a group may attack much larger creatures if their territory is threatened. - Osquips are not empathetic creatures, and it is quite hard to make any connection with them. - (Svipdagr)

Habitat

Osquips live in extensive, underground tunnel systems they create by burrowing through dirt, loose rock, and even solid stone.

Fylgia

Most compatible: Dire Badger

  • Osquips burrow, hunt, and live in a manner most similar to badgers. As a rodent, the osquip is also similar to the dire rat, but the osquip's size, diet, and burrowing capability position it slightly closer to the badger than the rat. Osquips share a pack mentality with the canine fylgias, but not much more.

Other notes
