FIREBRAND VS. CHAIN LIGHTNING: SIDE-BY-SIDE
FIRE BRAND 15d6 every target, up to [caster level] targets
CHAIN LIGHTNING
20d6 first target.
10d6 every subsequent target, up to [caster level] targets.
THREE TARGETS, TOTAL DAMAGE
FB 45d6
CL 40d6
TEN TARGETS, TOTAL DAMAGE
FB 150d6
CL 110d6
TWENTY TARGETS, TOTAL DAMAGE
FB 300d6
CL 210d6
- If you're shooting at more than a mated pair, FIRE BRAND does more damage overall. The gap grows larger for every additional target.
SPELL LEVELS
FB is 5, CL is 6. FB is a "cheaper" spell, but loses to CL in the DC calculation.
KEEP THEM BOTH
- Different elemental damage. Diversify.
- CL is great for a boss-led fight. Punch the boss for full damage, hit his underlings for half.
- CL will target/damage placeables. This can be good or bad.
- Being different levels, the two spells layer nicely:
[Base/Emp/Max]
FB 5/7/8
CL 6/8/9
- You forget to mention that firebrand has a maximum number of targets of 10, afaik. --Krator 09:00, 22 Jun 2006 (GMT)
