New work in progress

This is not official avlis lore yet and has no team approval. Please don't use this IG yet. This language I'm hoping will act as the Titanian variant of the sylvan language. Since in most settings the sylvan language becomes the basis of all fey (and elven) languages this is usually an important language, acting as a lingua franca in the forest. However in Avlis since we have two variants of sylvan I'm not sure there is going to be a role for this particular one. While Avlissian Sylvan will be offered as the lingua franca of avlissian druids, a practically identical language to the centaur language and is a known language of all avlissian sentient woodland beings there is too much mission overlap to have Titanian sylvan fill that role exclusively for titanian fey as well as us having a fairy common. Basically I don't see a role for titanian sylvan in avlis unless it is as strong an influence on "fairy common" as Avlissian sylvan is on centaur. In that role it also helps reinforce the lineage of avlissian fey languages in the way that would make them resemble fey languages from other settings influenced by nanshilae rather than evolutionary outcomes of nanshilae (" '! ") Not that nanshi is a bad or inappropriate way for us to go for that, but I guess we're at that point now where we need to decide which is the way. Which is the development tree for both lineages we're going to go with.

Titanian sylvan would otherwise only be able to act as a lingua franca for titanians, seelie and unseelie across species. Such a role may be conceived fairly I think given the long conflict between titanians and Oman fey but since each titanian would have a racial language very different from its oman counterpart as well as the existence of a fairy common, and considering that not only are titanian fey late comers on to the setting of avlis but that seelie and unseelie don't mix that often while it divides the populations of titanian fey into likely much smaller communities than oman fey I tend to hold that the only useful role for titanian sylvan is, again, as a strong parallel to what we've been calling "fairy common". In fact, I think if we treat them as the same language with titanian sylvan being almost painfully formal and fairy common being extremely casual that would be perfect. To ask a question without using a question-word, like "Do you dance?", you merely exchange the first letter of the verb into a "G". So the above question would be "Ma Gilu?", which is basically "You dance?"

Verbs Most of the verbs are regular and follow a set pattern. To change the verb to another time, merely add the correct wowel to the end of the word. It's pretty easy, just watch:

Plurality Sylvan has a bit more complex plurality rules than English. While English has singular and plural forms, Sylvan has singular, dual and plural. Which means that you have separate versions of "A tree", "Two trees" and "Many trees".

Singular: As written. "A tree" is merely "Mi", as listed in the dictionary.

Dual: A "-p" is added to the end of the word. "A petal" is "Sei", while "Two petals" becomes "Seip". If the word ends in "p", you add "-ip" instrad. This is also the case if the last two letters are already consonants.

Plural:A "-b" is added to the end of the word. "Trees" becomes "Mib". If the word ends on a "b", you add "-ib" instead. This is also the case if the last two letters are already consonants.

Numbers The fey numeric system is based not upon ten, like ours is, but upon five. This means that they count like this: One, two, three, four, five, eleven, twelwe, thirteen, fourteen, etc, so what they call 'eleven' equals what we call six.

The naming system for the numbers is very simple. The numbers one to five have names. The next five numbers have the same names but with a prefix. This prefix changes each five numbers, just like we go from 'twenty' to 'thirty' to 'forty' every ten numbers. Clumsily explained, but perhaps it gets easier to understand by looking at the list:
