The target animal must make a Will save with a -4 penalty or become paralyzed, standing helpless. The animal is aware and breathes normally but cannot take any physical actions. The animal can, however, execute purely mental actions.

A winged creature who is held cannot flap its wings and falls. A swimmer can’t swim and may drown.
