SCHOOL OF ABJURATION
Where would all be without Abjuration? Probably dead deep in the forests of T'Nanshi would be my guess! (Or knee-deep in excrement - see later)
Some of the most fundamental protection spells come from this school including various forms to protect against physical and elemental damage, and various globes and mantles to protect against spells.
Basically no mage should leave their study without one or more of these spells to hand.
In addition the anti-magic spells, such as "Dispel Magic" and "Spell Breach", are also from this spell school.
Anti-magic spells are without comparison in their utility. They are essential if the Art of Counterspelling is to be mastered, and have equal benefit in removing undesirable effects from your allies or protections from your enemies.
I recall back in the days of the Great Spite Plague, how the humble "Lesser Dispel Magic" helped keep the City Of Mikona's streets clean, by removing the unpleasant mess caused by the disease. I sometimes wonder if the City would still be knee-deep in excrement if it wasn't for that spell!
