Avlis is a roleplay server, and thus many things are IC. There is a balance to be had between FOIG and Transparency. As more information is released to promote that transparency and reduce OOC frustrations and confusions, that can have an adverse effect against the spirit of FOIG and the RP opportunities when not used responsibly. All Wiki Page Classifications are subject to the Avlis Team's discretion. If you notice a page that seems off or incorrectly categorized please feel free to fix or initiate a discussion to resolve the potential issue. If a player misuses these categories to intentionally portray something as "Official", that is against the rules. Please reach out to the Avlis Team for clarification or review.
Common and Uncommon In-Character Knowledge
Template to use on a page: CommonICknowledge or UncommonICknowledge
Common and Uncommon IC Knowledge are Guidelines. In the spirit of these, it is completely up to you the player to decide if your character would have a reason to know about it. Neither of these need to be requested. Basically it is offering guidance to you as opposed to a restriction. You can of course opt for your character to not know something that is common/uncommon knowledge. It is purely designed to encourage players to stop and think "How would my character know about this?" and then proceed accordingly.
Restricted In-Character Knowledge
Template to use on a page: RestrictedICknowledge
Restricted Knowledge is just that, restricted. Don't Metagame. This type of information is included on the wiki to ensure players are informed, there for reference, as well enabling players to know something exists OOC'ly, because if you don't know about it OOC you can't even start thinking about if/how to learn about it IC. This information is to help facilitate character growth, research, and so on.
Out-of-Character Knowledge
Template to use on a page: OOCKnowledge
The easiest one, these pages are designed to be OOC and is mostly self explanatory. This classification is designed to help the player distinguish between IC and OOC, especially since at times the line can blur when discussing and referring to mechanics. It will also use a lot of phrasing, terms, and definitions that may or may not translate well to IC language.
There may be IC Pages that cover the related topic/info, in which case please defer to those IC pages case-by-case when determining if your character would know something or not. However, in the event there is no IC-Counterpart, please use similar discretion outlined by the other IC Classifications to determine what your character knows. As always, don't Metagame, and remember to use Rule 0.
Please keep that in mind when reviewing OOC info and applying it in game.
Mixed Knowledge
Template to use on a page: MixedKnowledge
Some times pages include both IC and OOC information. The page should clearly define which is which. Basically it merges the IC Common Knowledge + the OOC Mechanics into one classification. Unless otherwise mentioned on that specific page, most of this information is going to be at player discretion to use or not use IC and would be classified as "Common IC Knowledge"
In-Character Perspective
Template to use on a page: ICPOV
This is 100% IC, but from the perspective of an actual character. That also means it may or may not be accurate OOC'ly. Additionally, this classification doesn't have "access levels" like the other IC information does. Please use discretion with this. Given that, the safest approach would be to consider this information "Uncommon" by default, allow the page itself to dictate whether or not it deviates from that, and as always try to consider if it makes sense for your character to possess that knowledge. Examples: Going to taverns to learn more, sifting through archives, visiting libraries, and so on. Remember these are guidelines to help facilitate RP and not hard rules/restrictions.
Books
Template to use on a page: Book
This is 100% IC, and may align with the ICPOV above in terms of accuracy. These pages are duplicates of books that exist in game. Access to these pages are typically defined under Common IC Knowledge.
Non-NWN Avlis Source Material
The final classification is a bit more complicated. This is a work in progress category. For purposes of explanation, it is largely self explanatory in the disclaimer. For additional information please review the Avlis Source Material page. It is included below for visual reference.
This is Avlis Source Material
