Introduction

Pack Bears are the domesticated cousins to the Dire Cave Bears in M'Chek and various other areas such as Nightfang. They look identical to their wild cousins but often wear the tools of their trade, a multiple arrangement of bags and boxes held on by various leather straps. They're immense strength allows them to both carry huge loads of supplies, and still fight along side their keeper in case of an attack. While Pack animals are used all over Avlis, The Dwarf Bunar Detraken rents T'Nanshi Pack Bears to adventurers and crafters from the outskirts of Zvidureth.

Feeding Habits

Like all bears, The Pack-Bears are Omnivores, eating both meat as well as plant material. Having been tamed they rely more on to their keepers for food then foraging, However they do seem to retain enough instincts to fend for themselves if left behind. Common items viewed as 'treats' Include berries and honey.

Disposition and Social Habits

Having been domesticated they are rarely hostile unless they are threatened. Since raised around people they are usually gentle giants. Most pack bears are trained while they are still young and are often placed with a more seasoned bear to learn from as well as a trainer. While training and while 'off duty' pack bears are social, often seen two or three sharing a pen. While 'on the job' a pack bear looks more to its keeper for companionship, enjoying being talked to or fed treats while working. Most pack bears are trained to return to their 'home' pen upon release from a job, although there have been on occasion ones that just wait around the area they were released until they are either rescued or they pass away. Once trained as a pack bear it is very rare for a bear to go feral or return to the wild, This may have to so with their dependency on people while being raised or due to wild bears rejecting them due to the scent of people on them.

Habitat

They are able to live comfortably in forest, plains, and rural areas. They are trained to live along side people.
