6. For the Sereg'Wethrin and T'Nanshi
I feel that this final chapter in the book is by far the most important, and is absolutely vital to read, absorb, and reflect upon for the Sereg'Wethrin and for all those that call the Spiritland their home. I fear that if this is not done, it could mean dire consequences for us all.
The questions I ask in self-reflection are: Why did I write this book now? What makes this book relevant to us today?
Looking at the state of my nation, my home, T'Nanshi, I am severely concerned for our future. Shaahesk freely exist in large portions of T'Nanhsi, and despite the very best efforts of our noble army forces, not only are we unable to remove the enemy, but also Drotid is even making advances. Just while I've been writing this book, Drotid has taken firm control of Elysia, which tells me that my efforts may be too little too late. We can no longer feel it is other people's problem, or issue to solve. It is an issue we all must face collectively. The Drotid forces own the air, the seas, and it seem the Underdark too. They have three or four fronts now against T'Nanshi and they can attack whenever and wherever they wish. All we can do in our present state is to react. I fear we will slowly fall to them if nothing is changed, and I do not believe we can do it alone.
Something has to be done, something needs to be done, so the only question is what? For years I've been writing to the Council of Nine, and have heard nothing back at all. I've proposed militias and town defenses to the Council of Nine, and have been ignored. I've proposed freeing enslaved combatants and rehabilitating them back into T'Nanshi society, and have been ignored again. I've suggested we understand why the Sahuagin are assisting the Shaahesk, when they have been enemies for as long as anyone can remember, but again, have been ignored. I've determined strategies on how to fight Drotid air power, and no one will listen. Lastly, I've suggested we need allies that will make a difference in the fight to defend T'Nanshi. I believe the Sereg'Wethrin are the very best ally we can hope to gain in the defense of the Spiritland. When you look at the situation T'Nanshi is in, and the true facts that lead the Sereg'Wethrin to be exiled and the choices they've made since, there is hope there for reconciliation and alliance. The exile of the Sereg'Wethrin from the Spiritland was not just their fault; it was T'Nanshi's and M'Chek's fault as well. It is an open wound on all of our peoples, which has never healed. For thousands of years the Sereg'Wethrin helped protect T'Nanshi, and since their exile we've lost one war, and are quickly losing another. If the T'Nanshi Army could do it alone, they would have already, but the reality of the situation is they need significant help. Let me write that again: If the Army of T'Nanshi alone could defeat Drotid, they would have already. Yet instead, Drotid successfully fights on many fronts at once. Simply put, T'Nanshi Needs allies. Whether it be Blandenburg, or perhaps another race or nation, or the Sereg'Wethrin, T'Nanshi is in dire need.
Conversely, The Sereg'Wethrin, elves, with a background of defending and protecting the Spiritland, meant to be in the forests, would benefit from returning to T'Nanshi, no longer as a military unit, but now as a race. They would no longer need to live in caves, which no elf was ever meant to do, and they would benefit, like every race does, with free trade, among other things. They have already changed aspects of their society to better align with us, giving up the practice of super-conditioning, stopping abductions and other things. Let me just stress this again. The Sereg'Wethrin have already stopped doing what caused them to be exiled in the first place, on their own, without being forced to, and without concessions in return. They have even, unbelievable yet true, refrained from attacking M'Chek during these years that Drotid has invaded M'Chek in the east, leaving their west relatively under defended.
So, why do I feel this book is more important now than ever? To state it simply, both the Sereg'Wethrin and T'Nanshi need to come together for their own best interests. They need to forgive each other, come together on the things in which they agree, and communicate on the things in which they disagree. They need to come up with a treaty they can both agree to, and work together for their mutual benefit.
I fear for the future if this is not done. In fact, others fear for the future because they have been there and have seen first hand what is likely to happen. They stated that in the future Drotid had control of T'Nanshi because T'Nanshi refused to make changes to better defend itself. But they also stated the future is not set, so there is hope. I also fear that the Sereg'Wethrin will soon stop reaching out to T'Nanshi if T'Nanshi continues to dismiss them. Imagine how quickly T'Nanshi or M'Chek would fall if Drotid and the Sereg'Wethrin teamed up against them. For T'Nanshi not even to discuss possibilities with the Sereg'Wethrin is insulting, especially with all the changes the Sereg'Wethrin have made in recent years. Dialog needs to be opened up and quickly.
I've heard the arguments against opening our nation to the Sereg'Wethrin, and they are weak, especially in the face of what we have as an enemy. In dialog with the Sereg'Wethrin we could work out agreements for dealing with mistakes that were made, but in keeping the Sereg'Wethrin at bay, we do not serve anyone any good. For example, if there is any hope of ever freeing any surviving elven females taken captive, it rests with working with the Sereg'Wethrin in that possibility. They will be forever captive if we continue to maintain a mentality of killing Sereg'Wethrin on sight, and keeping them at bay. Perhaps if we were in dialog with them, they would free the captives, and females in general once they have passed the age of having children.
The urgency I feel in needing to release this book is leading me to add nothing more. I could no doubt go on for far longer, but there is a purpose to this book, and for fear that it may already be too late, I pray I have added enough to suit that purpose.
I will end with this. One thing I learned during the many lessons in my life is that life is full of difficult choices. We as a people are faced with what seems like a difficult choice now. We can hold onto our fears, our prejudices, our hatred. We can put our heads in the sands and hope everything turns out okay. We can choose to fall to Drotid. Or, we can reach out to the Sereg'Wethrin and/or other potential allies. For me, that is not a difficult choice, but for many it can be. I call on everyone that loves my nation to call upon the Council to serve us to this end. My name is Earar Di'Mana. I love T'Nanshi. In fact, T'Nanshi is the only thing I love. I ask, and beg for the people of T'Nanshi and the Council of Nine to reach out to potential allies with urgency, including the Sereg'Wethrin. Otherwise I fear losing the only thing I love.
