Go tell the Solar Brigade, passer by,

that here obedient to the Trust we lie,

Half a league, half a league onward,

all in the cavern of death,

strode the half party,

'forward the Solar Brigade,

charge for the elves she said,

into the valley of death,

strode the half party,

Was there a man dismay'd?

Not tho' the gnomes knew,

someone hand blunder'd,

theirs not to make reply,

theirs not to reason why,

theirs but to do or die,

into the cavern of death,

strode the half-party

Bandits to the right of them,

bandits to the left of them,

bandits in front of them

arrowed and sworded,

storm'd at with arrow and blade,

boldly they strode and bade,

into the jaws of death,

into the mouth of hell,

strode the half-party

Flash'd Rolly's hammer true,

flash'd the magic missiles blue,

slayin' the bandit there,

charging an army,

while all the world wonder'd

Plunged into eldritch smoke,

right through the line they broke,

half-elven bandit,

reel'd from hammer stroke,

shatter'd and sunder'd,

then they strode back,

but not the half-party

Bandit to the right of them,

bandit to the left of them,

bandit behind them,

arrowed and sworded,

stormed at by bandit swell,

while gnome and human fell,

they that had fought so well,

came thro' the jaws of death,

back from the mouth of hell,

all that was left of them,

left of the half-party,

When can their glory fade?

O wild charge they made!

All the world wondered,
