Lycanthrope
Lycanthropes are commonly referred to as "were-" animals. They are limited shapeshifters in that they have animal, humanoid, and hybrid forms.
Types of Lycanthropy
There are three categories of lycanthropes.
Afflicted Lycanthropes
Those who receive the curse/gift (depending upon your viewpoint) and are unable to control their changes or what they do when in lycanthropic form.
- These lycanthropes can be any alignment.
- These lycanthropes can be found in game as either player characters or NPCs.
- This form of lycanthropy can also be cured at any time.
Converted Lycanthropes
Afflicted lycanthropes who elect not to be cured and who fully accept the curse/gift and convert to Xenon, or alternatively to Stephanus in the case of weretigers, become Converted Lycanthropes. Upon conversion, they become able to fully control their change.
- These lycanthropes become Evil in alignment during the conversion process and must remain so and continue to worship either Xenon or Stephanus thereafter in order to retain their lycanthropic 'blessing'.
- These lycanthropes can be found in game as either player characters or NPCs.
- This form of lycanthropy cannot be easily cured or reversed.
True Lycanthropes
True lycanthropes are also known as "hereditary" lycanthropes. These are creatures who have been born as lycanthropes.
- True lycanthropes can be any alignment and can worship any deity, but they mostly worship Xenon and/or Stephanus.
- Unlike afflicted and converted lycanthropes, true lycanthropes have the Shapechanger race/class and thus can be affected by "silver" weapons that do more damage against Shapeshifters.
- Players cannot be True Lycanthropes (not even via remort).
- These types of lycanthropes can only be found in game as NPCs. They cannot be cured.
All lycanthropes are governed by the demigod Xenon. Xenon also accepts non-lycanthropic PC followers of any alignment.
Becoming a Lycanthrope
Any player character of any alignment may become an afflicted lycanthrope except for Holy Warriors, who are granted immunity by their patron deities, Changelings, and Lupins. On conversion, the PC will become Evil.
Note: The conversion used to also require the player character to become Chaotic; this is no longer the case. Converted Lycanthropes can be LE, NE, or CE, but still must worship Xenon or, in the case of weretigers, Stephanus.
Effects of Lycanthropy
Damage Reduction
Lycanthropes in their animal or hybrid forms receive damage reduction based on their Character Level.
- The amount of damage absorbed is 10 + 1/2 of that character's level. So, for example, a level 20 lycanthrope would have 20/+x DR. A level 10 would have 15/+xx, and a level 30 would have 25/+x.
- The +x is equal to Character Level/8, rounded up. So a lycanthrope with a Character Level of 1-7 would receive +1 DR; at levels 8-15 they would gain +2; at levels 16-23 they would have +3; at level 24-31 they would receive +4; and at 32-40, +5.
So, a level 20 lycanthrope would have 20/+3 DR. A level 10 would have 15/+2, and a level 30 would have 25/+4.
Regeneration
Lycanthropes in their animal or hybrid forms also gain regeneration equal to their Character Level. So at level 5, in were-form, a lycanthrope will regenerate 5 hit points per round, and at level 30 will regenerate 30 hit points p per round.
Psionics
Lycanthropes cannot use Psionic powers or class-specific psionic objects, irrespective of the form they are in.
