Painting

Introduction
Painting allows characters to make sketches, water color, and oil paintings. This is done via a placeable easel that characters use to activate a NUI that allows a custom name and description for the artwork. A DC check on creation adds flavor text to the description indicating the skillful execution (or lack thereof) of the artist. The primary skill used is Dexterity, while the highest of either Wisdom or Charisma also provides a boost. For even better results, try adding a bit of Perform skill.
Getting Started
To become an artist, you need to acquire an easel and the correct supplies. Art supply stores are beginning to spring up Negaria, with rumors of one in Mikona and one in Westshore.
- If you use the easel and target the ground, it will set up an easel placeable named {PC's Name or Alias}'s Easel.
- Clicking the easel will always provide you the option to pack up the easel (return it to your inventory).
- If you possess the proper art supplies, clicking the easel will provide you the option to create either a charcoal sketch, a water color painting, or an oil painting.
- Selecting one of the art options launches a NUI that allows you to enter a title and description for your artwork.
- Clicking Done on the NUI launches the skill check and produces the sketch or painting in your inventory.
Note: Exiting the NUI without creating a painting still uses some of your art supplies for that medium.
Note: The easel is not a Plot item.
Painting Experience and Progression
Painting does not grant any real XP. Like most of the other Avlis custom tradeskills, it grants its own tradeskill experience points, Painting XP, and has a level progression the same as character levels. You can check your Painting XP using the /pcinfo command or the /check crafting
command.
XP gained per artwork depends on whether a PC fails, meets, or exceeds the DC.
- Miss the DC by 11+: 1XP
- Barely miss the DC (-10 to -1): 25XP
- Meet or exceed the DC (or nat 20): 100XP
The chance that an artist successfully completes an artwork is affected by several ability scores and a skill as well as the PC's Painting levels.
