The Legend of Leafweaver

A long time ago in a very far away land called Tyedu, the clan elders of the Whitefeather tribe gathered to drink and eat at the Sharing. They stood forth one by one as the tradition of their tribe went, to tell a story of old. These stories were to keep the history of the tribe. The clans people listened at the Sharing and learned the names of their great warriors. They learned the traditions of the tribe and of the northmen. They also learned of their duty to guard and protect the statue of the Snow Owl that was entrusted to them unto the day foreshadowed, when the one prophesied would come to take the "Heart of Snow, from the stone" and their duty to the statue in the shrine to the Keeper would end.

On this particular day of Sharing, however, one of the oldest of the shaman stood forth and said in a voice, still strong beyond his years, that he had a new story to tell. The people were disquieted and grumbled among themselves. The elders of the tribe called for peace and eventually the shaman was allowed to tell his new story.

"I have been granted this vision, this vision I have been granted...

"The one that will come to take the Heart of Snow from the stone will first be unknown. She will come from far away to take the Heart of Snow, and we will let her have it. None may take the Heart of Snow but her and none else shall have it...

"This is my vision, she will come with a name that is not hers, but she will be given a name. She will be named the Leafling, for those that will wake and walk with the Heart of Snow will not know her and call her child.

"In time, some will come to recognize that something walks in shadow over the Leafling, something they cannot name, and she will claim the name of Leaf and will walk as the Leafweaver for a time. She will walk through the Snow. She will walk through Ice. She will walk in the Fire and the Water and she will walk in a time of Chaos.

"But still those that will wake and walk with the Heart of Snow will not know her.

"This is my vision...

"The world will start to spin, things will begin to slide and break. There will be a time when Chaos is needed to set the world right, and that is what the Leafweaver will bring, but then a time will come when Chaos will be too much and the people will need to set out on a spirit quest to find that which will set the world to rights...

"In this time, the people will not know that the Leafweaver that walks among them carries with her the knowledge that will restore the balance. She will change again and they will not know her name. She who will walk through all the spirits of the world will walk with the people on their quest to restore the balance and they will not know her...

"The people will come to a place where they see rocks burning and some will cry out and say 'This is the place! This is what we need to save us!'

"But the Leafweaver will not release the knowledge that will rebalance the world...

"The people will come to a place where they see the wind driven maelstrom with heavy rains that flood the world and some will cry out, 'This is the place! This is what we need to restore the balance!'

"The Leafweaver will hear, but not release the knowledge that will rebalance the world...

"The people will come to a place and see the snow and ice fall upon the ground and death and undead rising around them and some will cry out, 'This is the place! This is what we need to restore the balance!'

"The Leafweaver will see, but will not release the knowledge that will rebalance the world...

"The people will come to a place on their quest, a place of quiet solitude, a place of nothing. They will see that all is for naught, all they have done has been for nothing, everything will be frozen and still, there will be no wind, no fire, no light, no dark and the people will say, 'Everything has ended, the end has come.'

"But it is here the Leafweaver will be revealed to them as the Keeper they had sought when they came to wake the Heart of the Snow. It is in the quiet, that the Keeper will release the knowledge to rebalance the world."

The old shaman told his tale to me, as I have told it to you, but the people had come to the Sharing for old stories, not new stories. They did not listen to the old shaman and a cry went up against him and he was sent away from the tribe. It is only because I had ears to hear that I bring you this tale from beyond our time. Because no one in the tribe repeated this story at any other Sharing, I bring it to you as the old man shared it with me and I will hope you will share it with others. For that was the vision he was granted, although none would listen.
