Background
Early Life
Xi was raised in the Kurathene from her earliest days by her mother and aunts who were mercenary scouts. Xi's biological father was an elven sailor at port the same time her mother was. It was one night, it wasn't supposed to mean anything but thats how it goes sometimes. Her mother did eventually marry, a shamanic northman. Human, so old by the time she met him and dead before she was fully grown. Her blood father could be anywhere but best guess is he went overboard one night during a storm. Her real family was her mother and aunts. Of the three sisters, by far the most authoritative was the eldest aunt Radra. Radra was a very unusual elf. As tall as a half-elf and even more sturdily built. She was Xi's primary mentor as her mother, Raina, often had to leave the field to care for her aging husband and then, left entirely to care for the child they had together. This put Xi between Radra who was a good, but boisterous and violent warrior and her other aunt. An arcane archer of wicked disposition who anyone could tell, was whom Xi much more closely resembled in terms of physical abilities.
And so, she spent her youth sneaking, being quiet and watching her aunts plan attacks, watching battles unfold. Out of fear of being overheard, her aunts spoke only in Dragonari. Something Radra had picked up and insisted on the others. Easy enough since aunt Corstin was Angdarian. She became a natural at stealth and squad tactics and training. Before she was much good at any of it however, she slipped up. A patrol of soldiers noticed Xi at a time when she should have known better than to be as loud as she had been, a mistake she carried heavily for centuries before coming to be at peace with it. She was beaten badly, a razor taken to her face. Before the outrages could go much further, Radra returned. Some of the men ran but none survived.
Eventually the tension between Xi & Corstin built to critical and Radra decided Xi wasn't really meek enough to take her mother's place on the squad, eternally tolerating Corstins cheap tricks and complaints. Arrangement were made and Xi found herself in Mikona.
In the south
After raiding the cully pen of the Ravens & getting caught at it, Xi considered herself lucky to be alive. Particularly with the war going on she found herself in a city that assumed she was a Nanshi spy and desperately wanted out of there. Two people helped her to Elysia. Tempus Thales, an off-worlder and Oelwyn Raine. When in Elysia Xi met a man named Cor'angelus who was helping produce a cure for the spite for the nascent AKN, a human monk suffering from the spite named Salia Kelm and a bard helping them both named Arena Helerin. Xi was impressed by the women's hard work and camraderie and right there decided to dedicate her life to sharing the community and service of their goddess Dre'ana.
Xi joined up with some of the more martially minded members of this group and had many great adventures. Slaying undead with Cha'Reth of Dru'El, attacking Tollgaroth of Maleki, braving the lost river canyon, having a stormy relationship with Emrys of Skern, secretly infiltrating Mikona to kill the clerics of Maleki, attack M'chekian special forces agents and even the M'chekian soldiers at the front.
Eventually however, her friends in the order seemed to go their own way, most not having her taste for combat. Her life needed a new direction and the pull to be with her close friend Vedette Lunadell caused her to rededicate her life to Dru'El. Here she joined the army and was not the only maiden to do so. Now she had all the combat she wanted and more. Eventually it began to get to be too much for her and so she went on a scouting mission into Brekon on reports of them mustering aid for M'chek.
She was captured, her back broken and she was left for dead. In time, her animal companion was able to nurse her to enough health that she could cling to her until she was brought to safety. Her old friend Cha'reth, now deified, brought her to Arborrea and gave her the ability to walk again.
One day, frustrated by all the old friends she'd seen move on to new chapters in their lives. Elloryn Yeristshamer that particular day, she apparently gained the attention of a favored of Pelar named Kahas who put her on a quest. It did not go terribly well but she did what she could so she felt and ultimately made a substantial contribution to the training of the soldiers at the northern fort bordering Drotid. She also helped reposition the remaining nanshi forces to better cover the nation until recruitment could replace those lost in the war.
Somewhere in all this time the capture of the vortex occurred, she got married to the speaker for the Hands of Dru'El and one day, suddenly decided she had failed him and cruelly left him, the war with M'chek ended, she tried to remain in a sort of dual membership with the faithful of Dre'ana and Dru'El, ultimately deciding that pure dedication to just one god was no kind of life for her at all. All this and much more happened. Xi spent a day in Nireth, looking over the water and listening to the gulls caw and screech around her. As a noisy, brash, drunk, foul mouthed tough girl she wasn't given to meditation. But that's what she did. When night fell she decided her life had to this point been pulled between themes of natural talents, good intentions and dedication. No matter what she did, she couldn't seem to get all three things going in the same direction at the same time.
So currently, and probably for the rest of her days now that she is middle aged, that is what she will be doing. Helping to raise her friend and roommates' child while remaining active in the army as an advisor and, if needed, a drill instructor. While she's still capable of wielding her trademark handaxe and longbow, she's packed them away and focuses the tenacity her friends came to know her as possessing, toward finding one lasting way for her bad life to leave one good mark on the world. Or at least, being happy enough to die at peace with those she has made.
