Appearance
To a non-human, Blake is hard to spot in a crowd, with his medium brown hair, and average height and build; only his unusual grace of movement sets him apart. While in civilization, his clothes change with his mood, especially since his wife is a seamstress.
Armament
When hunting or scouting, Blake favors gray and black padded armor. He always carries a pair of enchanted short blades which he calls "Diplomacy" and "Murder", wielded in his right and left hands respectively. He wears a waist bandolier to battle, with these blades as well as an assortment of other small or lightweight weapons. Currently these include a studded club and a featherweight elven greatsword. These melee armaments are supplemented by an ash longbow and a variety of arrows.
Occupation
The Bennesets make most of their living as gem wholesalers, but dabble in other commerce to supplement it. With military training from the M'Chekian Army, the Equalizers of Mikon, and the Order of Gorethar, and private tutoring as a fencer, Blake sometimes works as a mercenary. He has proven valuable at removing obstacles, either with a sword or more subtle tool.
Family
Once a distinguished family with a seat in the Noble House of government, the Bennesets have fallen into decline in the last century. The rest of the family relocated to Andarr in recent years, but Blake remained behind, hoping to start a new period of prosperity in Mikona.
To this end, Blake married his long-time travelling companion, Kate. Their life together started brightly, in a well-attended Mikonite ceremony. But while they are devoted to one another and often seen together, there is still evidence of the Benneset curse haunting them with hardship. In a symbolic act of perseverence, the two have determined to buy back the ancestral manor in Mikona, and make their fortune there.
Religion
Nominally a Mikonite in family tradition, Blake describes himself as religiously "experimental". During a phase of religious exploration, Father Sorn at the Temple of Mikon clarified that he was "undedicated". In either case, Blake respects the tangible power of the gods and their priests, but is weak-willed and changeable of faith. Above all, he values Mikon's respect for diversity, and central role as gatekeeper of Avlis against the other gods.
Politics
Like most of his family, Blake entered politics at an early age. He joined the Golden Path, working with its founders, Kered Rose and the late Dala Wennen, to fulfill his ambition. As the Golden Path's membership waned, he moved on to work (unsuccesfully) as in independent diplomat. He announced his candidacy when a seat opened in the Common House, but withdrew when he had to choose between his political and military service. He has also long regarded Common Housewoman Moira Windspar as a mentor.
Associates
Aside from his wife and political mentors mentioned above, Blake has a number of associates he works with on a semi-regular basis. Some of these include Paco Di Brancaleone, Arn Callindraes, Suki Darkstar, Kima Datter, Cromodon Draker, Sgt. Rolan Fyne, Aidric Glimmerblade, Brent Hammer Hand, Hubris, Gurth Istar, Melia Jarlin, Julian Montfort, Alia Moonstone, Sgt. Caitlin Swift, Tevez, and Grag and Milo Tharashk.
Adventures
Blake is sometimes jokes that his greatest adventures can never be told. He has taken part in some publicly documented events, including these.
- Attack of the Black Cult, wherein he received a gift from Xenon's faithful which would not be returned until years later in Andarr.
- His Wedding to Kate, which was fraught with unexpected danger in true Benneset fashion.
- Exterminating a Bandit Army, and various and sundry other adventures with Blackhawk Company.
- The Sacking of Jack's Shack, wherein a brownie uprising was put down, and Blake tasted firsthand the magic that creates the dreaded dire chicken.
- Sealing a Giant Ant Hive, a minor episode which nonetheless had a great impact on young Blake and his wife-to-be Kate.
