"...my soothing ointment makes for an excellent remedy in many situations. Boil two strips of copper birch bark in a pint of water. As the bark boils, crush three roots of comfry and three pieces of blue vervain in a mortar and pestle. When most of the water has boiled off, add the crushed comfry and vervain. Stir while heating until the mixture congeals into a uniform paste."
