SCHOOL OF ILLUSION

Not to be confused with the simple trickery of tavern magicians, who use slight of hand to apparently make objects vanish into the thin air only to reappear behind someone's ear. The true Art of Illusion is a much more potent thing, being backed by the full power of arcane magic.

The key to Illusion is to bypass the recipients' sensory system entirely and cause images and sounds to be perceived directly in the mind. This illusion is so complete that only the strong-willed can see the illusion for what it truly is.

Illusion magic has various uses from making people appear invisible or believe that they are blind, to conjuring such terrible apparitions in their minds that they can even die of fright! Indeed, I recall one gnomish battle-mage of the clan Swifur, who managed to conjure an apparition so dreadful that, in addition to its intended recipients, he also succumbed to it himself!

Not to mention the Shadow Illusions, which are essentially illusions of other spells! The more powerful types have such potency that the illusions even take on real physical form. These illusions can be a real wizard's friend, allowing the wizard to memorise one spell that potentially has the ability to perform several roles.
