Information

The weakest of the stone dragon races, coal dragons resemble monitor lizards, with coal black scales, thin tapered head lacking any horns, and a long, whip-like tail. A pair of ragged, bat-like wings juts from just behind its fore-arms, and the creature gives a general impression of coiling about the cavern it lives in, climbing onto the ceiling using its powerful limbs and blending into the surrounding walls. They have solid black eyes that glow with a faint blue tinge, eerily lighting whatever room they happen to be in.

Seclusive and anti-social coal dragons tend to avoid areas which other dragons inhabit, generally preferring to keep to the subterranean areas where they prey upon various travelers and miners, ever eager to increase their hoards. They tend to avoid sunlight and will only go out at night if forced by their circumstances. Solitary by nature, it is very rare to find more than one coal dragon in any series of caverns, particularly given the limited food sources in such foreboding environments.
