Clan Kaj'Ilel

The Kaj’Ilel is a nomadic tribe that follows the spirit-god of the same name, the guardian of the Ilel River in northwestern Tyedu. The tribe is made up primarily of wandering fishermen and hunter-gatherers who rotate through a series of small staging posts along the Ilel River which they refer to as “nans.” Generally the tribesmen make the bulk of their living as trappers, selling their furs to the various surrounding tribes and to the nobles of the nearby northern provinces of the Kurathene Empire.

The roots of the clan have been lost in the sands of time, however they have been known to trade with the border villages in Kurathene since the early days of the Imperial Era. The tribe follows the guidance of Kaj’Ilel closely, wandering along their nans with guidance by their shamans. The tribe members are primarily Lawful Good alignment, and there is a great deal of solidarity among the tribe’s members. The tribe is known to have peaceful and fair relations with the various villages it visits along its travels.

A unique facet of the Kaj’Ilel is the unique leather carapace armor that makes the tribal warriors into some of the most formidable in Tyedu, and gives them a distinctive appearance. The carapace armor is molded to fit each individual, and every warrior is given a full set of this unique armor when he reaches 16 years of age. Woven by an odd combination of fish scales, leather, and special bonding material, and then blessed by the tribe’s shaman, even a partial suit of this armor is in great demand among collectors.
