Above the Keep - By Lorelai Silvermoon Volume 6

One morning predestined for training, Cole arrives to the top walls of the castle with a light bag over one shoulder. Asking all to gather round, he gazes around at the assembled warriors and upward at their mighty, scaled companions.

"All standing have put forth hard effort, admirable dedication and will ... I am proud to share the skies with you. For all that hard work, I believe it is time we perhaps have a bit of 'fun,'" he says with a mirthful smirk, hard amusement glinting in an eye.

With that, he shakes the bag from his shoulder and one by one instructs each riding pair to pull forth a piece of its contents. A measure of colored cloth is drawn by each ... red, green, blue, or white. Leveling a finger in the distances, the Champion points out four hillocks surrounding the city where a large post has been planted and colored to match the four divisions.

Each color, he explains, denotes a team, and instructs each rider to tie the cloth somewhere recognizable, whether on themselves or their dragon. The name of the game is capture the flag, or rather the post. A team elimination occurs if your post is taken by another and returned to the offending post. Single eliminations occur when 'tagged' ... friendly he reminds ... by a foe. If tagged once you must return to your post for two minutes, and on the second tag you are eliminated. He trusts all to remain honest in their count and know when they are finished. Eliminated folk will return to the walls of the keep. Last team flying is victorious.

For motivation, he responds to a raised question ... the winning team gets bragging rights, and he will foot the cost of their dinners that night wherever they wish ... though he hopes the dragons will resume avariel shape beforehand.

"Let the game begin," he states as he uses the offered foreleg of Lymonious to rise up into his saddle.

MJ and Tryphena prove to be fiercely competitive and to make a pretty sneaky team, causing diversions for teammates to score tags and together being terribly unpredictable.
