BASIC COMMANDS IN ANIMAL TRAINING By Kai'Ral Windspar

The simplest commands are easily the most important. From these, all other commands will stem. When training your companion, it is best to seek solitude and quiet, so your companion will not be driven to distraction, but do not hesitate to congregate with other woodsmen and druids to learn new tactics for training.

My recommendation is to begin the process with the 'Come', 'Follow' and 'Heel' commands. All of these are commands that will allow you to call your companion's attention if they get excited or overzealous.

Simply address your companion by name and issue the command. Don't get too constructive, as the companion will only pick up on the first command word and will follow it to the exception of everything else you might say. It will also not follow commands right away and may do the exact opposite of what you request. Don't despair, and just be patient with the creature.

When training, you may occasionally notice that the animal's attention will wander or its strength will fade. This is arduous work, and should be done in moderation and over time, never all at once. Your companion will usually falter in attention or stamina after three failed attempts to issue a command. Pressing beyond that may tax them to the point of complete exhaustion and nothing short of rest and time to recuperate will help them in this instance.

It is important to note that while enchantments and elixirs will give some reprieve, but will not enable your companion to continue training, so don't push it. Just let them relax for a while, and they will train again with more gusto when they are ready.
