Mining is an age old technique that has been refined over the years. Iron ingots come from iron ore that is mined from the ground. One of the most sought after mines on the continent is the Mikona Iron Mine, which has been in operation for close to 1000 years.
The technique for mining ore is simple. Find a deposit of ore in the mines. (It is usually laying on the ground.) Hit is with a Miner's Pick. After a while, ore will come loose and you can take it away to be smelted into iron in a forge.
Smelting ore into iron ingots usually incurs a loss of material.
It takes 2 iron ore to make 1 iron.
It takes 2 iron to make 1 iron ingot.
