The Three Decks, Chapter 1
by Brant Risko
If you listen to me, I'll tell a story of old
Of decks, spirit-kin and legends foretold
There's so much to tell, so today we'll begin
With one card from each deck, the first spirit-kin
These three are the sisters, Hope, Bane, and Desire
One represents Earth, one Water, and one Fire
Desire, the oldest, is the first of the kin
She represents earth, and what lies within
She leads Deck of Darkness, insightful and wise
Balance and harmony are seen through her eyes
The next one is Bane, Deck of Shadows is hers
Its kin signal twilight, where light and dark blurs
Many represent animals, unique to this deck
Bane of Winter, the ice queen, keeps the seasons in check
And finally Hope, she leads Deck of Light
She's summer, she's fire, and sometimes she might
Burst into flame if she's upset or sad
Only kin can be near when it's especially bad
Three decks of cards, represent spirit-kin each
Locked for thousands of years out of reach
Now they have woken, and come forth once more
Safer perhaps, this time than before
