The Plane of Shadow

The Plane of Shadow is a place of darkness and uncertainty. Grossly, it appears much as the Prime Material Plane, except there are no sun, moon, nor stars. There is very little light to speak of at all in fact, for the whole plane is constructed of a shadowy material that shuns light.

The Plane of Shadow runs concurrently with the Prime. So travelers will often notice familiar landscapes and objects when they enter that plane. However, they are invariably twisted in some way, and the ways in which things are twisted can often vary from visit to visit. Constancy is not a factor on the Plane of Shadow.

Some sages and wizards admire the properties of this plane, for it not only warps objects, but also distances. Travel on the Plane of Shadow is fairly easy because the distances that one can travel in a day are at least eight times greater than on the Prime.

There are inhabitants in the Plane of Shadow, though they are a bleak lot, and there have been reports of people going there to find shadow versions of themselves, or of long dead fellows.

Demi-planes do exist in this plane, but they are rare and just as twisted. It has been proposed that if one were to travel extensively in the Plane of Shadow, they would eventually leave the concurrent part of the plane that lies in parallel with the Prime and thus enter a wholly shadow realm.

There are a few sources that say this realm is very mountainous and full of flickery changes. One theory that presents itself is the possibility of travel to alternate realities using this route.
