Wild Mage Overview

The Wild Mage taps into the inherent instability of magic, standing on the knife's edge between the greatest possible power and an uncontrollable surge of magic. As such they trade the stability of their spells in exchange for the ability to boost their spells significantly above normal in effectiveness.

Ranks

1 - Caster Level Swing: -2 ~ +3 (-3 +1d6), 15% Chance of Harmful Wild Surge

2 - Caster Level Swing: -3 ~ +6 (-4 + 1d10), DC Range -1 ~ +1 (-3 + 2d2), 10% Chance of Harmful Wild Surge

3 - Caster Level Swing: -4 ~ +15(-5 + 1d20), DC Range -2 ~ +3 (-3 + 1d6), 5% Chance of Wild Surge

Wild Mages receive bonus damage dice to spells based on their caster level swing. The formula is Caster Level Swing x 5%, rounded up to the nearest whole die.

Example computation of caster level and damage: A level 20 mage with AMS Rank 3 casts a fireball. Depending on the Caster Level Swing roll, their caster level will range from 16 [20 - 4] to 35 [20 + 15]. The total damage of the fireball will range from a minimum of 8d6 [10d6 base damage*(100% - 4 CLS * 5%)] to a maximum of 18d6 [10d6 base damage*(100% + 15 CLS * 5%)].
