Scale Rot was a disease that afflicted dragons, killed other entities initially, and in time also affected others of scalykind including Shaahesk, kobolds, Sahuagin, and troglodytes.

The Creation Of Scale Rot

In a bid to enslave and subjugate the only Platinum Dragon upon Avlis and also all other dragons of the world, the demon lord Sharistracterus created a cursed disease. The demon lord’s end goal seemed to be to gain an upper hand against adversaries with dragons under their rule.

The disease utilized some of Sharistracterus’ own Black Dagger Essence. It was a combination of demon magic, dragon essence and blood. It took an immense period of experimentation to craft something that would cause an afflicted dragon great illness.

Any creature that was not a dragon that somehow contracted the disease initially, would swiftly perish. Dragons, however, were uniquely suited to survive the disease. The symptoms were varied but some included: broken and rotted scales falling off, nausea, muscle and body weakness, inability to let loose a breath weapon, inability to fly, sickened and dark blood.

The various iterations of Scale Rot across time infected various dragons, one of them being an ally of Seven’s known as Sovine, The Frost Claw. However, the majority of the cases of Scale Rot seen widespread were in the years 3 and 4 AR (After Remaking.)

The Progression Of Scale Rot

Initially, Scale Rot was only able to spread between dragons or through forced infection. Forced infection was normally done by way of a tainted weapon covered in a Scale Rot toxin and used to stab or lacerate a dragon’s flesh. Spread outside of forced infection, as the Scale Rot grew stronger, wound up being simple proximity between dragons.

After further experimentation was done by Sharistracterus, Shy'lon'dris, The Pact Breaker, Xara'mir'voss'sdet, The Magnificent, and Riv’Ra’nuss (eventually gaining the moniker “The Monstrosity”) Scale Rot was enhanced to be able to infect all of scalykind across Avlis.

Scale Rot Research

Research of the properties of, effects of, and attempted cures and remedies of Scale Rot were done by a variety of adventurers across Negaria. Those of the AMM, those within the Dragon Task Force, and in between.

While remedies were found to help symptoms, no direct cure was discovered, due to the remnants of Black Dagger Essence and that of Sharistracterus himself interfering.

Temporary Halt Of Scale Rot

When Scale Rot became rampant amongst the dragon populace of Avlis security measures were put into place by the AMM, informed by the research done by the Magisterium and Dragon Task Force. These security measures culminated in information given to those afflicted of non-magical healing remedies, suggestion of petrification to temporarily stop the disease from spreading, and eventually close proximity to Seven while they wore a Chaotically Imbued Amulet.

Containment Of Scale Rot

Seven’s first act as a deity was removal and full containment of all Scale Rot. No dragons can be afflicted with this disease.
