15th November 2004 The Second Scaled Gauntlet; Temple of The'ton, Mikona

Wha' a time I 'ad aye, wha' a bloody good time!! Came off wi' the prize of the 3rd scale as well. Ol' friends ta meet with an' new friends ta make, a lot o' good fights an' a big party later. 'twas pretty crowded in the The'ton temple aye, with fighters o' all shapes, sizes an' prowess come ta test their skill. After much minglin', boastin' an' good natured leg pullin' among the fighters, the Gauntlet was officially declared open by Llyshara an' Brother El'rith of the Serpent Order.

1st Scale
First off, there were the greenest o' the lot. 2 blokes took ta the ring. Cocky bugger called Bane an' a slightly more controlled fella called Salis. Miss Llyshara doin' all the anonuncing, tol' us o' the rules about gettin' a bit o' time ta drink potions or cast spells on yerself... *smudge of ink*... blokes started off slowly, circlin' each other and bestowin' pansy taunts on each other. The crowd began ta git a bit impatient an' started jeerin' 'em. Finally they both jumped at each other, tho' methinks they actually tripped, an' started poundin' away. Tha' Bane got in a few good hits early on an' we all be thinkin' Salis a goner fer sure. But 'e had heart an' came back inta the match an' laid Bane low with a good set o' thrusts. An' so ta the cheers of the crowd, Salis be named the winner o' the first scale. The healers, Miss Divinia, Aryana an' Shawna brought Bane back ta consciousness an' 'e limped out a li'l quieter than 'e entered.

Most o' the audience was asked ta move further back ta give the fighters a bi' more space, tho' must say that the excitement kinda died down fer a bit. Donna think fight be fun iffen thar be no folks nearby ta cheer ye. Guess it 'ad ta be done. Bu' it picked up again later.

2nd Scale

The Second scale was a li'l more lively with two lasses, Kinite an' Delclara up against two lads, Hand an' Willem. There were a lot more names on the original list bu' mayhaps sum o' 'em chickened out. The four in the ring prepared 'emselves an' the word was given ta start when all o' a sudden there wa' a cloud o' the worst sorta stink I e'er be 'avin the misfortune o' inhalin'... e'en smellier than an orc fart after a heavy meal o' pig guts. It swept through the arena an' 'twas a miracle 'ow 'em fighters managed ta keep at it. Methinks tha' Hand bloke lost heart after that. Willem Lightheart bested the two lasses an' claimed the championship of the second scale.

3rd Scale

It wa' now time fer the Third scale. The fighters stepped inta the ring ta 'ave a go at each other. Greggary, Quat an' Shamus, solid lads they were, Bheem an' Gunter a coupla good lookin' dwarves, an' Miss Micah the lone beauty o' the bunch. 'twas a well thought out fight, showin' 'ow the level o' skill was improvin'. Most o' the contestants quaffed summat ta make 'em invisible an' waited ta pick on sum'n. Quat was soon out followed by Greg. Gunter got a li'l excited in the middle an' quaffed a potion thinkin' 'twas an ale an' this a good ol' bar crumpin'. Walked out honorably when 'e realised his screw up. Micah still bein' smart, was waitin' around fer Shamus an' Bheem ta wear each other down. Shamus eventually fell ta Bheem's hammer, leavin' the lass ta take on the dwarf. A fine display of defence followed with both fighters missin' a lot more than hittin'. Micah's spells eventually wore off an' graciously conceded victory after her armor began ta weigh her down. Bheem claimed title ta the Third scale.

Unfortuantely, couldna see most o' the Fourth scale but fer the end. An ogre called Donk clobbered the stuffin' outta the competition which included folks like Cain, Dale, Samin an' Satin. Quite intimidatin' bloke tha' Donk. *A dark spot here as if the writer was contemplating and forgot about his quill for a while*

5th Scale

The Fifth scale included the likes o' Jand, Da'emona, Grando, Friday, Findle, Drog an' Miss Moira. There was many spells bein' cast an' potions bein' drunk while they prepared ta face off with each other. The fightin' was fierce when it commenced an' sparks flew off blades an' armors. Good bits o' skill was shown all round an' most folks figgered this would be a long 'un. In the end it came down ta the lass called Friday an' the halfling called Drog. Drog was as slippery as rothe grease on a warm night an' Friday let out with a few choice curses ta vent 'er anger. The halfling finally slipped up an' Friday was quick ta dart in with a disablin' blow ta 'is legs. Raisin' her helm proudly ta the appreciation o' the crowd, the champion of the Fifth was rewarded fer her victory.

There be a small break afore the Sixth ta give the audience time ta whet their gills with ale an' chatter 'bout the fights so far. When word was finally given that the contestants fer the sixth 'ad ta step in, a hush fell o'er the crowd as they watched these formidable fighters pay their dues an' take their places around the ring.

6th Scale

The names on the list included those o' the Battlemage Jadrienne; Liartes the mysterious; diminutive Sunny; the berserker Aryana; an' Darent the calm. When the command ta begin was given, the arena exploded inta a frenzy o' action with the battle breakin' down inta intense personal duels or strategic alliances ta pick on a single foe. After a bloody struggle which left most gasping in pain and the audience on the tips of their toes, the final battle wa' fought 'tween Darent an' Jad 'oo had mprphed 'erself inta a golem o' some sort. They both crumped fer all they were worth, Jad tryin' 'er best ta hurt 'er opponent. Darent fought back calmly an' began ta wear down the mighty golem. Findin' a chink in it's armor, 'e found a way ta knock Jad down repeatedly, leavin' her exposed ta the mean edge o' his sword. Darent managed ta vanquish Jad in the end after a struggle o' titanic proportions an' stood stoically as the crowd erupted inta wild applause. In a noble gesture which moved the hearts o' many, especially the lasses in the crowd, he donated 'is winnings ta the healin' order o' Cha-Reth.

The crowd, after 'avin witnessed a truly memorable fight, now waited eagerly fer the contestants o' the Seventh scale. Reckoned iffen the Sixth could give such a spectacular show, the Seventh would be a right treat aye. A

7th Scale

erill the battlemage, Tag an' Flint stout dwarves who could fight with the best of 'em, an' Rhissaerk the shaahesk warrior, were the fighters fer this scale. Flint declined ta use any potions or spells on 'imself which was a first in the entire Gauntlet. As soon as the call wa' given ta begin, all three o' the males jumped Aerill 'oo seemed ta be the centre o' attraction. Tag was the first ta git eliminated. Rhiss showed summat o' his agility by leadin' the others on a merry chase 'round the arena. Flint go' tired eventually an' crumped with Aerill 'oo got rid of 'im as well. It came down ta the lizard an' the battlemage. Evenly balanced till the potions o' the shaahesk began ta lose their effects. Tryin' ta match Aerill proved tough after tha' an' Rhiss fell after tryin' his best. Aerill was now champion of the Seventh Scale.

8th Scale

The Eighth and final scale included some of the best fighters on Avlis . Ayren Milen, the flamboyant duelist; Moredo with fists o' steel ; Battlemage o' the Ebony order, Sand; Ruthless Zach Featherfingers; Arch the enigma; an' the Mighty half-orc, Ed. The preparations probly seemed longer than the time it took fer the First scale ta be completed, with potions bein' popped faster than ale at a wedding an' 'nuff spells bein' cast ta make yer eyes an' ears go numb. Sand morphed inta sum sorta Slaad, Ayren parried an' thrust wi' his rapiers, Zach stabbed all the legs 'e could with two deadly blades, Ed stood staunch an' cleaved mightily with his sword, Moredo pummelled with his bare hands an' Arch whirled around the arena wreaking havoc with his blade. The battle wore on and it's toll began ta be felt. Ayren was the first ta drop, closely followed by Ed who seemed ta be the common threat ta all 'is opponents. Arch was the next ta be eliminated, leavin' Moredo, Sand an' Zach, all without a scratch an' crumpin' fer all they were worth...which be quite a bit iffen ye think 'bout it. Moredo succumbed ta 'is wounds an' was 'elped away by the healers. The final battle 'tween Zach an' Sand lasted fer a long time with both seemin' ta heal by 'emselves. Zach's twin blades proved ta be Sand's undoin' as he finally fell an' lay defeated at the feet o' the victorious halfling. The crowd wa' silent fer a few moments an' only Zach's heavy breathin' could be heard in the temple. Then as un, the people roared their cheers an' toasted Zach as the champion o' the Eighth an' final Scale o' the tournament.

The contestants of all the scales were invited ta the Merchants Rest in Elysia fer its grand openin'. Much drinkin' an' merriment wa' there, bu' that be another tellin'.
