21st December 2004 The Third Scaled Gauntlet; Burnham's Hall, Mikona

The Gauntlet returned ta Mikona fer another time an' proved ta be a mos' entertainin' event. The bouts were held in the Entertainment Hall owned by Bill Burnham, a fine place indeed, wi' room fer many an' plenty o' facilities fer the fighters as well as the audience. In attendance ta aid the injured fighters were the healers o' Cha'reth, Priestess Eldraea, Miss Divinia, an' Miss Rika. Gracie Dane wa' official Mistress o' Ceremonies. Aryana an' a fine lookin' lass called Moonlight were there ta register names an' handle the finances.

This time 'round, Brother El'rith o' the Order o' the Serpent 'ad made it clear tha' thar would be summat changes ta the rules. Fighters could enter in pairs ta work as a team. This made fer a bi' o' tactical alliances as well as strategy when targettin opponents.

Since none showed fer the First Scale, 'twas straight inta the Second Scale fer startin' the tournament. The young 'alfling called Brant an' 'is mate Guli the dwarf took on Kinite an' Ronan, 'oo dinna think ta pair up. 'twas a quick fight, wi' Guli standin' an' sluggin' it out wi' his foes an' Brant runnin' around, tyin' 'em up in knots. Brant an' Guli won the Second scale and marked the first victors o' the day.

In the Third Scale, 3 blokes faced off against each other. A dwarf wizard called Hathgard, a a Human Malekite called Anton an' a Shaahesk named Szakhar. Szakhar seemed the most enthusiastic, an' roared out his confidence afore teh start. 'e wa' also the first ta fall, leavin' the Malekite facin' Hathgard in the form o' a troll. 'twas a long battle an' finally, Anton wa' able ta pierce through heavily 'nuff ta fell Hathgard, leavin' 'im the champion o' the 3rd scale.

The fourth scale wa' by far the mos' crowded an' thar were quite an assortment o' fightin' styles on display. Kegnar an' Alphonse, Anton an' Kitiara, Airinn' an' Shinaa, Hathgard an' Satin, Eldor an' Ialath, Sazkhar, *inkblot* , Cain an' finally, meself were ta vie fer honour in this scale. The fightin' wa' fast an' furious wi' teams workin' tagether ta systematically take down opponents. After mos' had bin eliminated, 'twas Eldor versus' Hathgard 'oo survived 'cos 'e wa' nay taken as a threat. Eldor made short work o' him bein' well enhanced by many o' his teammate, Ialath's spells. *inkblot*. The team o' Ialath an' Eldor wa' crowned champions o' the 4th scale.

In the 5th scale, 'twas only Donk an' Samin' 'oo joined up initially. I gave in me name fer the sake o' gittin' a chance ta crump a bi' more. In a surprise move, the lass, Moonlight also joined in ta chance 'er luck. Unfortunately, she could nay charm Donk 'oo clubbed 'er senseless wi' 'is scythe. After teamin' up wi' Samin ta kick me arse an' win the scale as a team, they both decided ta take part as in the 6th scale as well.

They were up against KaiRal an' Fignar o' the 4a, both 'oo seemed sturdy 'nuff ta bring down a lot o' pain ta their foes, an' Cyrenious 'oo took 'em all on by 'imself. Kai an' Fignar dinna disappoint, takin' down Donk an' then Samin, despite Fignar gittin a mean slash on the noggin which left 'im out cold. Cyrenious lasted a few minutes afore succumbin' ta Kai's axe.

The 7th scale saw 5 formidable foes git ready ta clash. Rhissarek on 'is own against Shen Ko an' Birbag an' Isamu an' Aryana. After preppin' up wi' various potions an' spells, the fight wa' finished quite quickly by Rhissarek, 'oo mowed down 'is opponents a li'l too easily ta believe. 'twas detected by un o' the healers tha' 'e had used a scroll o' Divine Power ta boost 'imself. After statin' 'e dinna know o' the illegal nature o' the scroll, 'twas decided ta 'ave a rematch. This time 'round the story wa' a bi' different wi' Isamu takin' on the shape o' a fearsome dragon an' knockin' teh stuffin' out o' every'un. 'e an' Aryana were crowned champions o' the 7th scale.

The audience went abuzz like a bunch o' bees when none other than Tollgaroth, king o' the Fire Giants, walked in ta take part in the 8th scale. 'e looked a fearsom sight wi' his glowin' sword an' sheer size. Aerill, champion o' the previous Gauntlet, teamed up wi' Rhiss. Kai Ral an' Nikki teamed up, Sand an' Aryana were the final pair an' Isamu decided ta give it a go on 'is lonesome. Tollgaroth watched as 'is opponents prepared 'emselves. Thar were a couple o' mistakes again when sum o' the fighters used an illegal spell o' sum sort. After sortin' these out, the battle commenced in full earnest. Thar were a lot o' hurtin' happenin' an' I kin assure ye 'twould 'ave bin a mos' painful experience. In the end, Sand had ta take on the combined forces o' Rhiss an' Aerill. Tho' he lasted fer a long time, 'e finally succumbed ta bein' outnumbered. Aerill an' Rhiss were crowned winners o' the 8th scale.

The final scale consisted o' Isamu, Birbag, Sand an' Arch. Sum bloke called out that he'd wager 20,000 gold pieces on Sand winnin' an' tha' set off a noisy round o' wagers on the outcome o' the scale. Arch proved ta be formidable an' lasted stubbornly against all tha' wa' thrown against 'im. 'e clobbered Isamu in the end an' was crowned the champion o' the 9th scale.

Thus ended the tourney o' the Third Scaled Gauntlet. 'twas a valuable learnin' experience fer me an' many others, a showcase o' sum o' the finest fighters this side o' Avlis. Mos' entertainin' aye an' hope ta see many Gauntlets in the future. I'll drink ta all those 'oo were a part o' this un.
