Place of Origin: M'Chek, Mikona, Noble District, House of Benneset (defunct).

This brown-haired young human in his gray silk suit is a common sight around Mikona. Eyes bright with sarcastic humor, his arrogant stride reflects his ambition for greatness. That walk presages trouble, which is rarely far behind him. He is Blake Benneset: swordsman, amateur alchemist, pub rat, soldier, would-be politician.

Known Affiliations

Blake enlisted in the newly formed Blackhawk special operations company, whose mission is to protect M'Chekian settlement in the Underdark.

• Apprentice, Guild of Advancement in Knowledge of Nature.

Seeking formal training in alchemy, Blake joined the AKN. If rate of advancement is any indicator, his talent is not that great.

• Organizer, Brotherhood of Free Blades

On returning from a stay in the Seven Cities, Blake opened a small mercenary guild with vague references to connections up north. This informal group seems to have few members, and do little business at this time.

• M'Chekian head, Benneset noble family.

Blake and his wife Kate are the only Bennesets remaining in Mikona at this time. The remainder of the family relocated to Andarr in 2160. The Bennesets were once an influential noble family with a seat in the Noble House of government, but their last century has been one of great decline. Though technically they could be called by the titles Lord and Lady Benneset, it would be an insult to family honor, having no property or personal retainers.

Personal History

Blake is the second youngest of nine children of Nicolo, head of his branch of the Benneset family. His mother died of the Spite when he was only a few years old. Clearly he has never forgotten who was responsible for the plague that killed her. His feud with the Sereg'wethrin continues, and even his wedding reception was marred by an attack that left his wife and guests infected with Spite. While it is an impersonal affair for the black elves, whose aim is destroy human-kind in general, Blake takes it both personally and seriously.

Childhood was a quiet, studious time for Blake, under the stern watch of his father and tutors. He rarely left the Noble district then, or saw how the "other half" lived. Moving to help manage his uncle's wine shop opened the figurative gates of Limbo for him. He found himself a teenager with free access to alcohol and Mikona's seedier districts. The little supervision he had were from an ailing uncle, and his black sheep of a brother, who would spend time in prison, then disappear entirely during this period.

From this boisterous young adulthood of partying, traveling, and other extravagant and escapist pastimes, Blake has grown into a more serious man. Keeping family tradition, he has directed his ambition towards M'Chekian politics. Pursuing membership in different Mikonan institutions, he keeps public company with a variety of seemingly contradictory acquintences, from across social classes. A former member of Kered Rose's and Dala Wennen's Golden Path party, he is also close to members of the Council of Balance. Perhaps it is his own interpretation of his patron Mikon's axiom of balancing extremes that motivates Blake to keep such unlikely company. His past naive attempts at diplomacy between factions in M'Chek and Elysia were met with hesitancy at best, and animosity at worst.

While Blake lives a spendthrift lifestyle, it is clearly not funded by his family's exhausted treasury. For explanation, he sometimes brags of far-fetched adventures, grand battles, and recovering lost treasures. But his eyes and tone of voice leave the impression that there's more to the story than he tells. There are rumors around Mikona of his having a criminal history, a wealthy mysterious patron, or connections to a foreign government, but only his closest friends could confirm or deny this gossip.
