Noble Houses of Julaspium: Boreas

by DanishPastry

Julaspium: Boreas
Residence: Stonemark Keep
Religious Influences: Valok
Leader: Count Treium Boreas
PC Members: Vittoria Boreas

The House Boreas is one of the elder houses of Julaspium, but ever since they during the Third Tri-Fief War opposed the decision of aiding Arvanos against Crullath, their influence has dwindled. Still, they are recognized for their diplomatic talents, and are often called upon, whenever emissaries of other fiefs or nations need to be persuaded to see things the right way. The Boreas have a long tradition of fostering some of the most skilled swordsmen of Julaspium and take great pride in this. Almost every single member has at one point been Swordsmaster before being knighted and most often immediately promoted to Knight-Lieutenant. Strict discipline and unswaying loyalty to the family are key elements, and dissidents are dealt with harshly.

As with most other noble houses, the House Boreas was severely crippled by the revolution in 1881, and approximately two thirds of the house were either wiped out or exiled. In the following decades a tradition of tracking down people with Boreas blood in their veins began, and those found to be of suitable wit and ability was offered the promise of riches and glory, effectively being accepted fully and equally into the house.

It is no secret that the House Boreas holds a longtime grudge against the Cattone family who on numerous occasions has opposed their motions and suggestions to the Council of Cities and the Chancellor. Furthermore, the House Boreas suspects them of being behind the assassination of Knight-Commander Specius Boreas back in 2027; a crime that was never solved. They are on good standing with the Eloras family, solely due to the voice of Alicia Eloras-Merenasi, wife of Knight-Commander Fredrick Eloras.

The House Boreas distrusts the Evokers of Clairvont Tower and arcane casters in general, thinking most mages and sorcerers to be dishonest and manipulative. Furthermore, as powerful as spells may be, their arcane energies can fizzle if only the mage is disrupted in his casting. A well forged blade will never let you down like that.

Goals

The House Boreas is generally Valokian, with a minority of family members worshipping Senath and Hurine. They seek to regain the influence they had years ago, by continued loyal service to Julaspium and cunning political manouvers behind the scenes. As for expansion, they recognize Julaspium’s inferiority in numbers compared to fiefs such as Trenium, and therefore seek military alliances before making a move. They have close ties to Crullath and are on a constant lookout to improve relations with most other fiefs.

Members

The most prominent members are:

  • Knight-Grand Commander of Stonemark, Count Treium Boreas – aging head of the Boreas family
  • Knight-Commander Gaius Boreas – only son of the Count and Mellina (deceased) and known for his great (yet sometimes foolhardy) courage.
  • Knight-Commander Samuel Ateni ‘Boreas’ – son of the Count’s sister Iandra, married to Tespius Ateni of Kuras (deceased).
  • Knight-Commander Gavius Julevii ‘Boreas’ – grandson of Maxine, married to Julius Julievii III of Crullath (both deceased).
  • Lady Vittoria Boreas, Paladin of Gorethar and outcast.

The residence of the House Boreas is the huge castle of Stonemark, located on the western fringes of Julaspium, bordering Trenium.
