The va’Argos family has its roots deep in the history of the area which now makes up Southern Julaspium, dating back well into the time of the former empire. All the countless hardships and changes that have befallen these lands, from the fall of the empire, numerous wars, revolutions and switching of leadership to outbreaks of disease…all these the va’Argos family has slowly but surely endured. Their resilience is a trademark of sort one could say. The most recent trial they faced was surely the revolution, which had them on their knees, practically destroyed.
They took many casualties, with several family lines completely killed off. A notable loss for them was also having to relinquish full control of the Llargos Mining Company to the newer nobility. But like ever in the past, with the passing of that storm and the years following, with their ever methodical and skilful practice of business they eventually regained just about everything including control over the mining and metalwork in Llargos. They have even expanded in the recent decades, mostly with supplying the army with various gear and notably mass weaponry.
The aspects with which the va’Argos family prides itself most are tradition and their ‘true’ nobility. They are very proud of their bloodline and do not allow just anyone into the family, and especially anywhere near the family business. Though there is always only one head of the family, practically all the members are in one way or another involved with the business, starting at an early age. When the current head of the family is close to his death or is no longer fit to run the business, it is handed down to one who is deemed most suitable. The decision of who this will be is never taken lightly, and often involves numerous consultations amongst the senior members of the family.
The Llargos Mining Company (and thus the mine itself), Argos Outfitters and partly Garekkin-Argos Mass weaponry are currently owned and run by the family. As for realestate, their most notable possessions are the keep in the middle of Llargos which is now their main residence, and the vineyard estate in the hills to the southwest, which is actually the original household, now a sort of summer residence (known as Maylin Hill or Mayhill Manor, after Maylin Argosus who first settled there centuries ago).
The god most revered by the va’Argos family is by far Hurine. Though recently, with their mercantile expansion into the various crafts, Fegall has also become respected…though not publicly (mostly by the current head of the family Thurmond II who had a temple built in the basement of Argos Outfitters, something his sister Lady Victoria resents).
Goals
The family concentrates its influence mostly in Llargos and the nearby surroundings, just enough to make safe their business interests. In general they have never had a large appetite for warfare and expansion by it, which is probably a factor contributing to their ability to endure for so many centuries. In Soreign they always have a presence on the political front, but rarely in the spotlight. They prefer rather to nudge things along in the right direction, making sure their interests are never put at jeopardy.
Members
Though over the centuries the family had grown quite large, the revolution had severly cut its numbers down. The line that did survive has continued the family traditions and now resides in Llargos:
Thurmond I va’Argos (deceased, leadership was passed on to his son) and Helena va’Argos (recently deceased, lived to a very old age)
- had three children:
- Duke Thurmond II va’Argos (current head of family, already quite old) – Duchess Theresa va’Argos
- children: Katherine, Desmond, Gertrude, Elizabeth (all have offsprings themselves)
- Lady Victoria va’Argos (also very influential member of the family…now widow, she kept her last name in spite of marriage to a Thrardoldich)
- children: Jonathan and Durmond (both took the va’Argos last name, have offspings as well)
- Lord Harmond va’Argos – Lady Fiona va’Argos (reside in Soreign)
- children: Wilford (one of the few members who are involved in the military, a Knight Lt.) and Miriam (have offsprings)
