House of Mist and Shadow
Founding Statement
Magi,
With the changes taking place in the structure of what was the Trust, that is now the Academy, the Ashen has self-reflected on the qualities we bring to magic and the duties we had performed in the Trust in order to ensure Magic could flourish.
We have considered how to best fulfill our purpose with the change from Trust to Magisterium.
I present to you the reformed Ashen:
The House of Mist and Shadow
Purpose:
Discovery; to seek the Unknown. We are the seekers set to determine what lays beyond the borders of our known magics by seeking what is hidden; to find long-lost magic, artifacts and texts; by exploration and delving into the deepest depths. We seek to go where mankind has forgotten.
As the Academy focuses on internal teaching and research, we are the counterbalance who seeks without instead of within. Our seeking of the Unknown strengthens the arcane by looking for lost magics, artifacts and forgotten texts that can enhance the knowledge for all. Our information will be shared with the Academy of Mortal Magic that the seeds of knowledge we collect can be grown with further study from Academy members and researchers.
As a secondary goal, our outreach and exploration into unknown territory allows us to be information gatherers who can assist in the securing of deadly artifacts and reporting on deadly threats. As our predecessors the Ashen did before our reform, we choose to intentionally seek out information on external threats to magic, such as Outsiders who would do this world or the Academy harm.
As Mist and Shadow, we of the House seek to:
- Uncover lost and forgotten magic and sources of magic
- Report threats to the Magisterium
- Secure artifacts that are too dangerous to return to mortal hands
What is Mist and Shadow's outlook on magic?
In an ideal world, all who seek magic should be able to learn and have the choice to pursue magic. Yet Magic should also be used responsibly.
From a purely practical perspective: Although our varied skills are a strength, the school of Divination and the subschool of Teleportation in Conjuration are two especially useful skills for any House member to have. Skills of stealth, self-defense, and any skills that assist in exploration are also useful for House members to obtain. We believe in strength through harmony of purpose, and will assist and teach members upon joining, assigning them a mentor to help them grow in their studies.
Who is eligible to join the House of Mist and Shadow?
The House is comprised of members of the Academy of Mortal Magic who hold our shared vision. This includes Sorcerers, Wizards, Bards, Priests of Andria, and any who join the Academy who share our outlook. To submit a request to join, please contact a member of the House's Tower (Ashen) in Visimontium, Elysia, or Mikona.
